My mom is 84. Recently her liver enzymes went through the roof (one of the enyzmes was 6,600). Within a week both enzymes returned to normal.
Her doctor thinks an antibiotic given by mouth caused the problem. Enzymes went up on her second day of taking Ceftin and Zithromax.
So here's the deal-- I've been with my boyfriend for a year and a half now and we have been completely monogamous. In June I went to the health clinic for a pap smear in preparation for getting an IUD and found out I have chlamydia. My boyfriend and I talked about it and we don't know where it came from, since we both had unprotected sex with our previous partners, but we decided not to worry about it and just get it treated.
After a few days however my testicles ached after i drank a large amount of liqour. I took another zithromax dosage and this time 1g on the first day and 500mg for another two days. I also took doxy 100mg. bid for two weeks but my testicles still hurt. Was the treatment enough or a failure?
Also my wife whom i had sex during the supposed incubation period also took 1g of zithromax and 5 days of 100mg. doxy bid.
She was taken to the emergency room yesterday morning and has been admitted into Intensive care. She has liver failure. She is yellow (yellow skin and eyes). She has swollen legs and stomach. The doctors are running blood tests, but they cannot tell me anything yet. I need to know what to expect. I am 20 years old and I don't know what to do. my husband past out, went to the hospital and they said he had liver failure..they told him to quit drinking .he has not stopped.his amonia levels are high.he will not say much, he missed his last appt. and not going back.he said when he was drinking that he does'nt have long. he stays gone and won't give a real answer to anything. i guess what i want to know is how will i know if he is at the last stage. i know he has lost about twenty pounds in the last month. not eating .

I had cirrhosis and ESLD, end stage liver disease, which at one time had me delirious in the ER where I didn't know the date or much of anything. It's a side effect of cirrhosis known as hepatic encephalopathy. Her doctor will prescribe medicine for the HE which will help.
I also had a live liver transplant with my daughter as my donor.

But now she is complaining that all her limbs are sore. She has pain in her neck, shoulders, arms and legs and are extremely tired and suffers shortness of breath. Is this at all any indication that she is actually nearing the end? I know that her condition is very serious, and being HIV positive is also aggrevating it. Please if anybody can help me with any kind of indication of what to expect from here. Is the limb pains caused by the liver failure?
.My brother 46 was given 2 months to live due to liver failure caused by alcohol and Hep B . Scared him a bit, he was put in the hospital for 4 weeks, and got better real quick. That was March 2011. He started drinking again right after he got out of the hospital. It's hard to believe but he is still working in a bar and walking. I don't know how he does it. His stomach is very swollen, he can't eat and doesn't sleep much, but he' still going!!!
The symptoms you describe are many of the signs that his liver is failing. Weight loss and lots of sleeping is frequently seen in end-stage liver disease. He may get splotches and bruise easily as things progress because of low platelets, another side effect of decompensation. You might find some helpful details here:

I tested positive for chlamydia 3 weeks ago and negative for everything else including HIV (test at 7 weeks). I was given Zithromax 1g, which i have previously had before for a single other STD infection a few years ago (also chlamydia). The symptoms of the chlamydia seemed to disappear completely after one week.
However at the end of the 2nd week after treatment i began to get symptoms again.
Luckily liver transplant doctors are very experienced with these issues and are very good at determining which people may need a liver AND kidney transplant and those who kidneys will "bounce back" once a new fully functioning liver is transplanted in the recipient.

Upset stomach, loose stool,etc.. I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and I am prone to chest pains, etc. Have had many tests and they say there is nothing wrong with my heart. However, ever since I took the meds, I have been having back, shoulder, arm, stomach and chest discomfort. The pain travels and is short lived, and sometimes it gets worse when sitting. I have had mild pain that shoots up from the stomach area and goes into my left shoulder, right up the front of my chest.
He was then rushed to er where they found his organ were shutting down, He was hospitalized for a month for liver and kidney failure. After being released on strike orders and visits 2-3 times a week for dialysis that last almost a month. Know he is having blackouts and dizzy spells. October of 2011 he was in the hospital again, dealing with infection. A CT scan was done and they told us his cancer had spread to the liver and lungs. So after some research I figured out that the treatement for syphilis is 2g of zithromax... I initially found that very odd and feel that this may cause me to overdose!! Not to mention that I have gilbert's syndrome and my total blood bilirubin level are usually around 2.0... Overall, my question is, how harmful will 2g of zithromax at once be?? I hear that zithromax is heavy on the liver which is what makes me afraid of what 2g of it can do!!
If she is in liver failure you are looking at more than quality of life issues liver failure and end stage liver disease ESLD is a life threatening condition if she cannot qualify for a liver transplant and has liver failure I am very sorry to say it is a matter of time how much longer she can survive with a failing liver.
What has her medical team said about her prognosis and her eligibility for transplant?
