Avatar n tn I am presently taking Zetia every other day. I also take Omega 3/6, vitamin A,E. With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything. Ar there any other supplements that should be avoided while taking Zetia? Many thanks.
Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
Avatar n tn With numbers as high as yours, you need some medical interaction as lifestyle changes alone will not get your levels low enough to be healthy. You could try getting some exercise, but I doubt if that alone would do it, even with a healthy diet. It is unfortunate that you are in the small minority of people (approx 1% of users) that have adverse side effects from statin use, but not all statins are the same.
Avatar f tn At that point, our doctor added 10 mg Zetia to his regimen because of elevated LDL particles. Also, my husband stopped all alcohol (he was a social drinker, around 2-3 glasses of wine per week) and NSAID's. A month later most of his LFT's were elevated, ALT 79, GGTP 178, ALP 113 & AST on upper end of normal at 40. The doctor said to stop the Lipitor...but stay on the Zetia...... and retest in 1-1/2 weeks which he did this past Sept. 30th.
Avatar f tn Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system. Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.
Avatar n tn I have been having some highCholesterol level for 3 years now. I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a combination of Simvastatin and Zetia so you are taking the same thing without the Zetia so you should not see any changes in how your body reacts.
Avatar n tn Incidentally, unrelated to GA, I started taking Zetia for cholesterol about 3 years ago and soon thereafter developed a severe chronic cough that nearly drove me crazy (and everyone around me!) I saw several doctors and was given many different medicines.
Avatar m tn Can anyone explain to me why I still had a heart attack even while taking the following meds atenenol 50mg bid, HCTZ 25mg daily, zetia 40mg daily, plavix 25mg daily, welchol 625mg bid. Also what is the chance of a second heart attack My Aortic Valve, Tricuspid Valve, and my Mitral Valve are failing because they are stenotic and regurgitative. The Aortic valve is in the worst shape of the three they tell me. I have psoriatic arthritis and ankolosing spondylitis. all joints are involved.
Avatar n tn Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?
388544 tn?1231982494 Based on this Class I study, it is considered possible that cyclosporine provides some therapeutic benefit in progressive MS (Level C recommendation). However, the frequent occurrence of adverse reactions to treatment, especially nephrotoxicity, together with the small magnitude of the potential benefit, makes the risk/benefit of this therapeutic approach unacceptable (Level B recommendation).
Avatar m tn Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders. He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.
Avatar n tn The labeling information on it by the FDA states that there is no therapeutic benefit above 50 mg. You are already on 75 mg. Did your doctor take you up to that dose because you weren't getting a good therapeutic effect at 50 mg? And are you wanting to up the dose further for that same reason? It may just not be a great fit for what you are trying to treat. Tell us more and we'll definitely try to help.
950978 tn?1246129559 I was diagnosed in having a fatty liver. I take Zocor 40mg and Zetia 10mg. My ALT level is 120 and AST is 52. My question is should I control how much I drink or not drink at all?
Avatar f tn also be aware that the big decline will be at 48-72 weeks with your hbv mutations and hbeag negative the difference of fibroscan between 4 and 6 is meanless, you have nothing to worry you may try to see if intf response can be increased by ezetimibe (zetia) or smvastatin.
Avatar m tn http://medicalxpress.com/news/2013-04-therapeutic-approaches-chronic-hbv-infection.html Exciting new data presented today at the International Liver Congress 2013 include results from early in vitro and in vivo studies targeting covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA), which may form the basis of a cure for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. HBV cccDNA is organized into mini-chromosomes within the nucleus of infected cells by histone and non-histone proteins.

767237 tn?1332640177 I use to take lexapro and clonazepam for the last 6 years. Pdoc said I should've never been on the lexapro because it was making me rapid cyscle, Now I take 25 mg of Lamictal (can't go up because pdoc is saying that it's making me manic), 50 mg of Seroquel, 900mg of Lithium and 1 mg of clonazapam. I actually use to have to take 3 mg of clonaz but I think the seroquel is making me not need it as much.
Avatar f tn My 18 year old daughter was almost totally resistant to the repeated rounds of SoluMedrol (5 days each time), so in the last two months, she has been hospitalized twice for PLEX (also called TPE, or Therapeutic Plasma Exchange). Each time, a Shiley catheter was implanted in her right internal jugular vein (neck), and she received 7 every other day Plasma Exchange. The first round in October, she had spectacular recovery, but that only lasted for 2.5 weeks.

20632981 tn?1503687567 It all depends on the person, unfortunately. My experience won't be yours. Yours won't be mine. There are some generalizations that mean most people, but remember, you're not most people, only you. Prozac is a good one to try because it's one of the easiest to stop taking. No way to say, though, if it will work or not. Side effects differ greatly among different people.
