Thank you for the post. As of today, I am not taking any drug. I feel normal and "healthy". Except for the backache that came with Crestor. It looks like my muscle pain is diminishing though. I am afraid to go on zetia either. I am helpless not knowing what to do. My doctor said I have to atleast take the meds for 3 months before the blood test. But then even with this horrible muscle pain he did not ask me to get the CPK tested. Should I ask him?

Fenofibrate
If cholelithiasis is suspected in a patient receiving ZETIA and fenofibrate, gallbladder studies are indicated and alternative lipid-lowering therapy should be considered [see ADVERSE REACTIONS and the product labeling for fenofibrate].
Choleithiasis is Gallstones in the gallbladder. Ask about it.
AST on upper end of normal at 40. The doctor said to stop the Lipitor...but stay on the Zetia...... and retest in 1-1/2 weeks which he did this past Sept. 30th. His ALP came down to normal at 91, his ALT stayed the same at 79, his AST stayed relatively the same at 42, but his GGTP went quite high at 240. The doctor's office called and told him to come in next week.
Londres is certainly correct that there are a few other options available to treat what could be assumed to be familial hypercholesterolaemia, even though your doctor has obviously tried those that would be most obvious.
Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc.
so he looked it up on his computer and sure enough, that was one of the warnings. I stopped the Zetia and the coughing disappeared completely within a couple of weeks. The point here is that medicines, while helping one problem, frequently can cause another.
The meds I take for thyroid, reflux, heart disease and high blood pressure are synthroid, metoprolol, lisinopril, plavix, aspirin, lipitor, tricor, folic acid and nexium.
I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot. have about 1/3 of the severity of symptoms that I had on statins. headache, muscle aches. may put up with it and may not. just keepin on keepin on for now. Will see if this gets better, worse or stays the same.
With numbers as high as yours, you need some medical interaction as lifestyle changes alone will not get your levels low enough to be healthy. You could try getting some exercise, but I doubt if that alone would do it, even with a healthy diet. It is unfortunate that you are in the small minority of people (approx 1% of users) that have adverse side effects from statin use, but not all statins are the same.
Meaning (with your physicians monitoring and approval) you quit taking one drug for a week or two and see if the itching ceases. If not you begin that taking that drug again and go to the next one and do the same and so on until the culprit is discovered. If the Lovaza is the most obvious than your physician will most likely begin with that medication.

I am a 72 year old active women who has been diagnosed with osteo arthritis who has been sent to my cardiologist because of the my consistant high cpk reading. After electrograms, changes in cholestrol medication,( lipitor, crestor,), now on zetia my tests keep coming in high.Outside of my lower extremities aches, which I credit to arthritis, I feel fine. Both doctors, arthritis and cardiologist, keep drawing blood with these rates still climbing.
Increased liver enzymes could be due to the medications. Metoprolol is known to cause hepatitis. But the elevation is only marginal, so the pros and cons need to be weighed before discontinuing a medication, discuss this with your doctor. But ensure to follow up with your doctor and monitor liver enzymes to see for changes.

Effient-10mg, Zestril-2.5mg bid, Zetia-10mg, Lovaza-2g bid, along with those I already take which are: Toprol XL-50mg, Crestor-40mg, Zantac-150mg, and Aspirin-325mg.
Now, it's been almost a week since my procedure and beginning the new meds. I have had an increasingly severe headache and dizziness on standing since I got home from the procedure with hot flashes, night sweats and also a low-grade fever last night. Could my symptoms be a result of one of the medicines or combinations?
If you want any hope of preventing heart disease you have to aim at the cause and not one of the byproducts. The cause is inflammation and damage to the lining of the arteries. This can be through a few causes, such as high blood pressure or infection or genetics. So avoiding stress, avoiding high blood pressure and eating the correct nutrients to keep arteries healthy in my book is the best approach.
It sounds like you have familial high cholesterol. The only FDA approved drug that has had clinical trails is Crestor. It is a statin drug so you have to watch for muscle pain , fatigue with it. If you get any tell you doctor right away. Have they done a full lipid panel on you too? Diet only lowers your cholesterol by about 10%. So, it helps to not eat any extra cholestrol as your liver is what genetically controls the amount of receptors you are born with that break down cholesterol.
I had hot flashes and night sweats for several years, but none in the past few years, until the night sweats began again about a year ago. I am in good health. I regularly take the following medications; zetia, prilosec, neurotin, fish oil, glucosimine, alieve, melatonin, and a multi-vitamin.
What could be producing the pink sweats?
My doctor has changed my medication to Crestor which I was told to first take one a week for a couple of weeks, then (2) pills a week for 6 weeks then he will order another blood test. How long does it take after I go off the first medication before I should be able to tell if it is the medicine causing my muscle soreness? My cholesterol was a total of 282 with a HDL cholesterol in the 80's.
