I am presently taking Zetia every other day. I also take Omega 3/6, vitamin A,E. With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything.
Ar there any other supplements that should be avoided while taking Zetia?

At that point, our doctor added 10 mg Zetia to his regimen because of elevated LDL particles. Also, my husband stopped all alcohol (he was a social drinker, around 2-3 glasses of wine per week) and NSAID's. A month later most of his LFT's were elevated, ALT 79, GGTP 178, ALP 113 & AST on upper end of normal at 40. The doctor said to stop the Lipitor...but stay on the Zetia...... and retest in 1-1/2 weeks which he did this past Sept. 30th.
Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system.
Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.
I have been having some highCholesterol level for 3 years now. I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person.
Incidentally, unrelated to GA, I started taking Zetia for cholesterol about 3 years ago and soon thereafter developed a severe chronic cough that nearly drove me crazy (and everyone around me!) I saw several doctors and was given many different medicines.
Can anyone explain to me why I still had a heart attack even while taking the following meds atenenol 50mg bid, HCTZ 25mg daily, zetia 40mg daily, plavix 25mg daily, welchol 625mg bid. Also what is the chance of a second heart attack
My Aortic Valve, Tricuspid Valve, and my Mitral Valve are failing because they are stenotic and regurgitative. The Aortic valve is in the worst shape of the three they tell me. I have psoriatic arthritis and ankolosing spondylitis. all joints are involved.
Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?
Statins work in the liver and every commercial I have seen advises not to take if you have liver problems. Zetia works in the intestines.
Was the Zetia working?
If my memory serves me correctly, MikeS is taking statins and he had a TP. He is far more knowledgeable on the subject than I am and hopefully he will see this post and give his input.
Zetia is part of a class of drugs called cholesterol absorption inhibitors.
Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders.
He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.
I don't know if this is a myalgia question or fibromyalgia question, but I recently was in Thailand and have been back for a few weeks. Anyways, I have had pretty bad myalgia to the point where I am popping pills left and right and just freaking out at the amount of cramping pain...no matter how much I stretch or how much water I drink I feel like my muscles and joints are tight and not working. RIGHT now my left hand is beginning to throb with pain!
With numbers as high as yours, you need some medical interaction as lifestyle changes alone will not get your levels low enough to be healthy. You could try getting some exercise, but I doubt if that alone would do it, even with a healthy diet. It is unfortunate that you are in the small minority of people (approx 1% of users) that have adverse side effects from statin use, but not all statins are the same.
Myalgia-merely means MUSCLE PAIN. The 2 times he has been diagnosed with the Myalgia he had been sick with something else and had probably been lying in the bed for a couple of days or had vomiting, diarrhea. The Nimulid doesn't have any association with the myalgia. Generally Myalgia is treated with Ibuprofen as his doctor has ordered. The Ibuprofen not only controls pain but helps with the inflammation as well.
I went cold turkey off Xanax for a few days and then got spooked by all the warnings. Now I have developed a debilitating myalgia (muscle pain and stiffness) which I have some reason to believed is due to Xanax withdrawal. I went on a half dose from .5 to .25 for the last two nites and now I am thinking I should go back to my full does of .5 mg and see if this myalgia subsides. so my question is is this myalgia due to Xanax withdrawal?.
t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.

In addition, the risk of myalgia ranges from 5.1% with fluvastatin (Lescol), 10.9% with pravastatin (Pravachol), 14.9% with atorvastatin (Lipitor), and 18.2% with simvastatin (Zocor). And you have been on both atorvastatin (Lipitor) and pravastatin (Pravachol).
Once you stopped taking statin, the pain and aches should resolve. However, for some patients, it may take up to 2 months for symptom resolution.

had fluconazole systemic for 15 days but relapsed again in 2 days. Since 1 month have severe myalgia. I tested for HIV I and II antibody in the 6th week and 10th week but negative. Tested p24 ag/Ab but negative in the 7th week. Do I have HIV. Still have itching and myalgia.

After electrograms, changes in cholestrol medication,( lipitor, crestor,), now on zetia my tests keep coming in high.Outside of my lower extremities aches, which I credit to arthritis, I feel fine. Both doctors, arthritis and cardiologist, keep drawing blood with these rates still climbing. After a year of this circle, and being a believer in preventive mediciene, my concern is should I be concerne?
s was back in my mediastinum although in stage I. The assumption was that the cancer was producing cytokines causing my myalgia. The myalgia went away when I started chemotherapy. About a month after finishing chemo and verifying that the cancer was gone, the myalgias returned. My doctor's were stumped. They sent me to a rheumatologist who comfired that my ANA & RF were negative but my CRP & ESR are quite high. He is also stumped.
I just figured out I have fiber myalgia which included and definitely not limited to neurological pain, I just found a doctor who actually takes my insurance and who believes in fiber myalgia!
My (74 year old) father currently is taking these medications together Pravastatin Sodium 80mg, Zetia 10 mg, Isosorbide Mnonitrate 30 mg, Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg, Plavix 75 mg, Amlodipine Besylate 10 mg, Aspirin (nsaid) 81 mg low dose
The doctor told him his liver count is up 66 and the lower range is 64. Would any of these drugs or combination of these drugs make liver count increase?
Have you given any thought to Fibro Myalgia? I'm not sure if that is what it could be, but it sounds similar....My grandaddy had a heart attack a few years ago and ever since then he has suffered from Fibro Myalgia, he hurts alot all the time and sometimes has problems sleeping and sitting still, so you may want to look into it.....I hope you find an answer and I hope you get well soon!
