zetia

Avatar n tn My cholesterol levels have been high all my life. Genetic, I have been told. I took niacin for 20 yrs. I am now 67 and have tried two different popular statins( lipitor and crestor which did lower LDL about 50 pts but also lowered HDL). I could not tolerate either statin because of personality changes ie: anger and irritability all the time and severe cognitive issues with memory, reasoning and being able to focus.
Avatar n tn I am a 63 years old woman. I have high cholesterol and take meds for that. Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol.
Avatar f tn I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore. My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily. My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
Avatar n tn 'I've battled high cholesterol for a number of years and can't find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing.
Avatar f tn Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system. Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.
745393 tn?1345077196 I recently had a visit with heart doctor. I had test done, found out that my cholesterol was 190. Couple of months ago it was 166. I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor, lipitor, crestor, zetia, tricor, provastatin, niaspan, gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. All of these choles meds causes me to ache in my muscles very very bad, and dr.
Avatar f tn I am relieved to know that I am a responder. Can I take Sim even if my colestral level is ok? I am thinking to take 2g of NTZ as I am still on 1.
Avatar f tn did tell me there are other reasons for heart disease that they are not fully aware of. I do take Lipitor and Zetia. My cholesterol for the last year and 1/2 has been normal. I take Plavix, Propropanal, Lisinipril/Hcg,Imdur, Lipitor and Zetia. I started taking a multi-vitamin but found it made me ill. There must be an ingredient that I cannot tolerate. I will take Vitamin C as you suggested. I also am an anxious person. I have always been an active person that liked to work out.
Avatar n tn Incidentally, unrelated to GA, I started taking Zetia for cholesterol about 3 years ago and soon thereafter developed a severe chronic cough that nearly drove me crazy (and everyone around me!) I saw several doctors and was given many different medicines.
Avatar m tn I started taking the statin drug Lipitor for my high cholesterol. Soon after taking the drug my liver went south for a vacation. That was when they tested me and found out that I have Hep C. They think I caught it from a patient, as I am a healthcare worker. Still a mystery. Any how thanks for the post. Is their anyone currently taking that particular drug? What are some side affects? And why not more people on it?
Avatar f tn Despite controling my diet and doing karate 3 hrs per week I have high cholesterol (287) and high triclyceride (250). I am at a lost and don't know how best to control it. At these levels I feel dizzy and lethargic. Please advise.
Avatar f tn Frenchie - I don't know what my ratio is. I know they consider me high risk/heart diseased because I have a history of stroke (even though I was 24 when i had the stroke and it wasn't due to high blood pressure or high cholesterol or anything like that). So I think the range numbers are lower than for someone with no stroke history, I suppose they want it lower than normal to compensate for health history. How do you figure out ratio? Brooke - Thanks.
Avatar m tn Also, with risk factors they want the LDL (lousy) cholesterol under 70, and the HDL (happy) cholesterol should be 39 or higher, About the triglycerides -- taking Metformin for diabetes has brought mine down the lowest they've been. Plant sterols in margarine (Promise Active light), fish oil will bring your numbers down. Also weight loss. I can't tolerate the statins -- the doctor is thinking of trying me on Zetia. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I have been having some highCholesterol level for 3 years now. I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person.
Avatar n tn However, lots of recent studies have found that sufferers of atherosclerosis have a huge range of cholesterol levels, from very low to very high and lots inbetween.
21064 tn?1309308733 I was put on it not so much for my levels of cholesterol; but for, high hsCRP results and xanthelasma (yellowish orange flat patches around the eyes). My hsCRP level is down to 6.2 and the cholesterol deposits around my eyes don't seem to be getting an worse. All in all I would say that's a plus. Take care.
Avatar n tn Thank you everyone for all of the info. This is totally new to me!
Avatar n tn I was placed on Zetia but since going on Medicare I find it too expensive to purchase. Any suggestions for other medications would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn If it reduces cholesterol there, it may reduce cholesterol on the heart muscle. Cholesterol builds in the arteries, valves and muscle of the heart. In order for cholesterol to stick, there has to be a sticking spot. Do you have a high level of inflammation in your body? There is a test for this. Do you have arthritis? It is great that you are eating no red meat. This will help a great deal. Do you eat lots of vegetables fresh and foods rich in omega 3?
Avatar f tn Our doctor switched my 57-year old husband from 20 mg Zocor to 10 mg Lipitor in Dec. 2011 due to elevated LDL particles. He also takes Dutroprol 100/12.5 and 40 mg Benicar for BP, 81 mg Aspirin, and 2000 mg Metformin for Insulin Resistance. He currently weights 260 lbs. at 6' tall, down from 275, and he's continuing to lose weight by following a lower carb diet and exercising. Seven months after starting Lipitor, his GGTP tested high at 87.
Avatar n tn I am currently residing in Merida, Yucatan, Mx. I had a 100% occclusion of the LAD immediately beyond the circumflex junction four yrs ago, all my other coronary arteries were quite clean on the angiogram and I did have a stent put in. I evidently had a lot of covascularization, for there was little pain and no real decrease in my high activity level. My last nuclear stress test, a yr ago, I went 17 minutes on the treadmill and everything checked out.
Avatar n tn There are all kinds of statins out there, as ed said, you have to find out which one you tolerate. I have been on them for many years as I was unable to lower my LDL with diet and exercise alone. They have worked well and I have had no side effects, but everyone is different. Most of these can be replaced by the generic Simvastatin. It's cheap and is the basis of many of the meds out there.
Avatar n tn I am presently taking Zetia every other day. I also take Omega 3/6, vitamin A,E. With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything. Ar there any other supplements that should be avoided while taking Zetia? Many thanks.
182884 tn?1259312906 To summarize what you have told me. You are post menopausal. You have high cholesterol are 25 pounds over ideal body weight. High Blood Pressure? Do you smoke? You're father died of a heart attack at age 60. You had chest pain which was subsequently shown to be an MI by EKG. By most assessment criteria, you are at high risk for another MI. Your risk is highest within the first 6 months after the event.
Avatar n tn 45 yr old female insulin dependent juvenile diabetic, former smoker 20 yrs, high cholesterol (now 130 used to be 252), 10 lbs overweight but still losing, and a long cardiac history in short time. Multiple stents to RCA followed by 4x CABG (LIMA & 3 vein grafts) 1 yr ago, MI 3 yrs ago (clot while on Plavix & aspirin). Early January after EKG change 1 bms placed into 70% blocked branch off lcx. 3 days later it closed with a clot and balloon angioplasty was performed on branch and lcx.
Avatar f tn I was on Femara for almost 2 years with bad side effects. Switched to tamoxifen for the last 6 months. I also take zetia and lipitor for cholesterol as well as the usual vitamins/minerals (CA,C,D,Selenium, OsteoBiflex, zinc, multi,E). My new oncologist ran a CA27.29 test which showed a reading of 45 which is considered high. Initially, he wanted to run a PET scan, but decided that we could rerun the test again in 3 months to see if the Lipitor or something else was affecting it.
