Zetia and myopathy

Common Questions and Answers about Zetia and myopathy

zetia

Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar n tn With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything. Ar there any other supplements that should be avoided while taking Zetia? Many thanks.
Avatar n tn Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?
Avatar m tn Statins work in the liver and every commercial I have seen advises not to take if you have liver problems. Zetia works in the intestines. Was the Zetia working? If my memory serves me correctly, MikeS is taking statins and he had a TP. He is far more knowledgeable on the subject than I am and hopefully he will see this post and give his input. Zetia is part of a class of drugs called cholesterol absorption inhibitors.
Avatar m tn Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders. He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.
Avatar f tn AST on upper end of normal at 40. The doctor said to stop the Lipitor...but stay on the Zetia...... and retest in 1-1/2 weeks which he did this past Sept. 30th. His ALP came down to normal at 91, his ALT stayed the same at 79, his AST stayed relatively the same at 42, but his GGTP went quite high at 240. The doctor's office called and told him to come in next week.
950978 tn?1246129559 I was diagnosed in having a fatty liver. I take Zocor 40mg and Zetia 10mg. My ALT level is 120 and AST is 52. My question is should I control how much I drink or not drink at all?
1706803 tn?1307798860 I have had MS for 8 years now i was 35 when i was DX but, now my Mother was DX with Mitochondrial Myopathy and, i am scared this is what i have since its Genetic. How do they tell the difference between the 2 diseases? Should I be checked for the Myopathy? Does the Mitochondrial have lesions in the brain when a MRI is done. I have 19 lesions in my brain, brain stem, spine.
Avatar n tn If it were me I would give pravastatin a chance, but if I had the same side effects and I could not live with them, I would try something like Zetia. You could also add a fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGLs as well, very safe and no side effects. This will help lower your overall number but will not impact your LDL which is you main issue. You really need to get that under 130 with no other risk factors.
Avatar n tn I’m a active 68 yr. old women, that has tried 3 different statins. Everyone gave me muscle problems. Then my GP put me on Zetia. Said it would be different. After two months on it, it was worst than the statins. Woke up one morning, couldn’t close my hand. My fingers were so swollen and my both thumb joints would not bend. When I tried to bend them they clicked and was very painful.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a combination of Simvastatin and Zetia so you are taking the same thing without the Zetia so you should not see any changes in how your body reacts.
Avatar n tn I finally went to a specialist in Baltimore who read my history which showed all the meds I was taking and he noticed that I was taking Zetia and told me that he believed Zetia caused chronic coughing in some people; so he looked it up on his computer and sure enough, that was one of the warnings. I stopped the Zetia and the coughing disappeared completely within a couple of weeks. The point here is that medicines, while helping one problem, frequently can cause another.
Avatar m tn I just got off of zetia and welchol. I could not take statins. I tried them all. Used to take Niaspan and fenofibrate but they took me off cause both cause problems in some and had not 'reduced the incidence of cardiac events'. I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot.
Avatar m tn Yes, it looks like myopathy is a term for a multitude of muscular disorders and the cause needs to be determined. Sorry that you have that and Iwould seek a multitude of opinions on the cause if your'e not comfortable with the answer.
Avatar m tn Muscle biopsy shows myopathy that occurs with anabolic steroid abuse, Also have MRI and tests for pituitary tumour nad and bloods for ? hypopituitary. Results show low testosterone consistant with anabolic steroid abuse. I have never used anabolic steroids at anytime. Could something internally be wrong. I have episodes of feeling unwell with sweats, hypoiglycaemic symptoms and low blood pressure.
Avatar f tn What is steroid myopathy? What are the symptoms? Do you have to be on prednisone for a certain lenght of time? I have been on prednisone for 12yrs. I am just wondering!!!!!!!!
Avatar n tn I have been having back pains for the past few months and lately, i have been experiencing tummy pains. I just had my blood test and the results are alarming. SGOT - 75 SGPT - 52 LDH - 293 CPK - 3,074 I have yet to see my doctor. but I am so worried now. Can you please help me? what do those results mean?
Avatar n tn The severe form of acute alcoholic myopathy is associated with the sudden onset of muscle pain, swelling, and weakness; a reddish tinge in the urine caused by myoglobin, a breakdown product of muscle excreted in the urine; and a rapid rise in muscle enzymes in the blood. Avoidance of alcohol is the main treatment available. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
Avatar m tn If TSH is normal, then hard to conclude myopathy is thyroid related. T3 sometimes helps nonspecific muscle symptoms, but you have already tried this. Would consider looking into other causes as well of myopathy.
Avatar f tn Hi, Centronuclear myopathy is a condition that primarily affects skeletal muscles and may be associated with mutations in the DNM2 gene (for autosomal dominant pattern) or mutations in the BIN1 gene (for autosomal recessive pattern) Patients with autosomal dominant centronuclear myopathy may have droopy eyelids(ptosis) and weakness in the muscles that control eye movement (ophthalmoplegia) --as mentioned in your other post. Avatar f tn I have muscle weakness of my upper arms and thighs and hips. Also my respiratory muscles are weak. I have tingling in my feet and arms. The other day I had this weird burning/tingling sensation in my right thigh and my right foot just started involuntary moving up and down. I also have dizziness and stumble sometime. I am seeing an ENT in April for this. When I saw my new neuro, I did have nystagmus, droopy eyelids and a positive Hoffman's sign. Anyway hoping to get some answers soon.
Avatar n tn In mitochondrial myopathy, muscle biopsy shows abnormal stain in muscle fibres (red ragged). In addition, stains also detect absence of mitochondrial enzyme in mitochondrial myopathy. Therefore, in mitochondrial myopathy muscle biopsy can not be read normal. Hope this helps.
11594441 tn?1419693988 d like to know if untreated long term (30 years) subclinical hyperthyroidism (MNG) can cause thyrotoxic myopathy. The doctor I saw 5 years ago said that I was just mildly hyper and that it couldn't cause my symptoms, which included climbing up the stairs on my hands and knees, difficulty rising from a chair, painful quads, stiffness, loss of shoulder-girdle and pelvic-girdle muscles and muscle cramping. The specialists I've seen haven't been able to find any other cause.
Avatar f tn First time for me to write on one of these sites I was just told I have mitochondrial myopathy not real sure what or how to take it main complaint is pain and burning sensation.
Avatar n tn From a thyroid medication standpoint, the key will be to get the levels normal and keep them there - it may take 6-12 months for muscles to recover if the myopathy is due to excess thyroid hormone.
