Avatar n tn With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything. Ar there any other supplements that should be avoided while taking Zetia? Many thanks.
745393 tn?1345077196 I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor, lipitor, crestor, zetia, tricor, provastatin, niaspan, gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. All of these choles meds causes me to ache in my muscles very very bad, and dr. says this could be a serious situation. I need to know from someone please what can I take now ?. I need very bad to be on some med.
Avatar n tn Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?
Avatar m tn Statins work in the liver and every commercial I have seen advises not to take if you have liver problems. Zetia works in the intestines. Was the Zetia working? If my memory serves me correctly, MikeS is taking statins and he had a TP. He is far more knowledgeable on the subject than I am and hopefully he will see this post and give his input. Zetia is part of a class of drugs called cholesterol absorption inhibitors.
Avatar m tn Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders. He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.
Avatar m tn CoQ10 is helpful for under-active thyroids, for it stimulates the thyroid to work more efficiently. Because safety of CoQ10 during pregnancy and lactation has not been clinically proven, Q-Gel CoQ10 should not be used during this period except under the advice of a healthcare professional. There are no other known conditions for which CoQ10 is unsafe to ingest.
Avatar f tn AST on upper end of normal at 40. The doctor said to stop the Lipitor...but stay on the Zetia...... and retest in 1-1/2 weeks which he did this past Sept. 30th. His ALP came down to normal at 91, his ALT stayed the same at 79, his AST stayed relatively the same at 42, but his GGTP went quite high at 240. The doctor's office called and told him to come in next week.
950978 tn?1246129559 I was diagnosed in having a fatty liver. I take Zocor 40mg and Zetia 10mg. My ALT level is 120 and AST is 52. My question is should I control how much I drink or not drink at all?
Avatar m tn The body normally produces sufficient CoQ10, although some medications such as statins may interfere with this process and CoQ10 levels in the body may decline with age and heart disease. Only small amounts of CoQ10 are available from food, mainly beef and chicken. Consequently, dietary supplements are the most common way to increase the body's CoQ10 levels. After being absorbed into the body, more than 90% of CoQ10 is converted to its active form, known as (CoQH2-10) or ubiquinol.
Avatar n tn If it were me I would give pravastatin a chance, but if I had the same side effects and I could not live with them, I would try something like Zetia. You could also add a fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGLs as well, very safe and no side effects. This will help lower your overall number but will not impact your LDL which is you main issue. You really need to get that under 130 with no other risk factors.
Avatar n tn I’m a active 68 yr. old women, that has tried 3 different statins. Everyone gave me muscle problems. Then my GP put me on Zetia. Said it would be different. After two months on it, it was worst than the statins. Woke up one morning, couldn’t close my hand. My fingers were so swollen and my both thumb joints would not bend. When I tried to bend them they clicked and was very painful.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a combination of Simvastatin and Zetia so you are taking the same thing without the Zetia so you should not see any changes in how your body reacts.
Avatar n tn I finally went to a specialist in Baltimore who read my history which showed all the meds I was taking and he noticed that I was taking Zetia and told me that he believed Zetia caused chronic coughing in some people; so he looked it up on his computer and sure enough, that was one of the warnings. I stopped the Zetia and the coughing disappeared completely within a couple of weeks. The point here is that medicines, while helping one problem, frequently can cause another.
Avatar n tn started taking COQ10 - along with magnesium, fish oil and hawthorn - for irregular beats/pvc's. Have read that people taking COQ10 should avoid "vigorous" exercise. Any validity? Have also read COQ10 enhances exercise endurance, and this seems contradictory ... Thank you.
475570 tn?1280941363 Hi, Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10 is produced by the human body and is needed for the basic functioning of cells. However, the amount decreases with age and is low in patients with some chronic diseases such as heart conditions, muscular dystrophies, Parkinson's disease, cancer, diabetes, and HIV. Levels of CoQ10 in the body can be increased by taking CoQ10 supplements, although safety and effectiveness have not always been proven.
976897 tn?1379167602 I've recently been reading a lot of material on this coenzyme and some things seem quite worrying. Of course, it's difficult to know if half of what you read on the internet is true or not. I have read a few Doctors reports on the subject and several research results. Apparently this coenzyme is very important for any kind of muscle cell to efficiently generate energy, low levels cause discomfort.
Avatar f tn t seen many posts on successful supplements other than magnesium, and in the absence of a blood test showing a deficiency taking a supplement may do more harm than good. You may get something putting your subject in the search field at the top right side of this page.
Avatar f tn I have been taking a few different suppliments one of them is CoQ10. Is this ok to take during pregnancy or should I stop taking it. Should I stop taking it immediately or slowly taper it off.
612551 tn?1450022175 There is limited evidence based on a few reports that suggest these 2 meds should NOT be mixed. Anecdotally speaking: CoQ-10 is frequently recommended for reducing side effects in patients taking statins ( like Lipitor) and I haven’t heard of anyone on warfarin having issues. I would recommend consulting your doctor first (obviously) and maybe refraining from COQ-10 unless you have some nasty symptoms that you absolutely can’t tolerate which COQ-10 has been shown to alleviate.
Avatar m tn I just got off of zetia and welchol. I could not take statins. I tried them all. Used to take Niaspan and fenofibrate but they took me off cause both cause problems in some and had not 'reduced the incidence of cardiac events'. I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot.
1323747 tn?1364806882 I wish I could say yes, as Lipoic Acid and CoQ10 were both prescribed for my son (after i got back his metabolic function test). Lipoic Acid smells horrible, so my son wouldn't take it, or use the skin cream. I didn't know it could affect thyroid function, it was prescribed for carbohydrate metabolism. He has been taking a little CoQ10 for awhile, based on an elevation of hydroxymethylglutarate on his test. (This is a metabolite of CoQ10 synthesis).
Avatar m tn I have been reading a lot of coq10 supplements and gum health, so I decided to give a try. I got a bottle of Doctor's Best, [Hig]h [Abso]rption CoQ10, 100 mg, 120 Veggie Caps and after a week of taking it, I noticed my teeth became real sensitive. They even hurt when I bit down on some tortilla chip, and even the gum underneath my 10-year crown felt tingling..scary.. I immediately stopped taking the supplement that day and three days later, my teeth were back to normal.
Avatar n tn I read on several websites that it has been noted in several studies that CoQ10 levels are usually low in persons with heart conditions and even diabetes - especially if they are taking heart meds which can cause the CoQ10 to go even lower!! I could send you a multitude of inks on it. I also found that ATP might be a supplement to research to see if that might help also.
Avatar n tn And so much for their great ability to reduce inflammation...mine is through the roof. The l-carnitine and coQ10 and selenium have worked wonders though.
161647 tn?1280608163 A reliable brand name is the trademark QGels. Whoever sells them is selling the same product, and it's pretty reliable. Jarrow makes the QGel that's got one of the best prices for a good company. The most important thing is to get the gel caps, not the powder in a capsule, which doesn't hold up well. As it's fat soluble, it's best taken in its oil form, with a meal. Some people like New Chapter's food grown CoQ10.
