Common Questions and Answers about Zantac side effects ranitidine

zantac

Avatar m tn In order to treat Acid Reflux/GERD I have been taking Ranitidine/Zantac per doctors advice. I started developing various side effects several months ago. To verify the side effects were caused by the ranitidine I would stop for a few weeks and use TUMS instead. I repeated this cycle several times. The symptoms would go away each time I was off the ranitidine for a week or so.
1088529 tn?1256844030 I've just started taking zantac, and I don't know if I'll have any side effects, or if my regular symptoms (stomach pain, upset stomach) will become apparent or come back. My question is this; if I get nauseous, stomach pain, upset stomach etc. as a side effect or other, can I take tums to calm my stomach down? Or will it just make things worse? I can't talk to my doctor because (a) don't have an appointment and (b) am too young to drive there or get an appointment myself.

520191 tn?1355635402 Wow...that's awful! While I never had a reaction like Freddie's....I do believe Ranitidine made me persistently nauseous for an entire year straight. I've had GERD, a hiatal hernia and stomach problems for years. After a long stint with Nexium, I decided to get on a non-PPI and something more minor. Ranitidine was the suggestion. Though I've always struggled with nausea here and there....for a year of my life I struggled with nausea constantly. Almost every single day.
Avatar f tn the Prozac, but that kind of pattern can lead to difficulties in tolerating the med...it can increase side effects, and decrease the efficacy. So, my advice is to just stick with it...take it regularly, as prescribed. Good luck to you!
15695260 tn?1549593113 Choices for a generic over the counter antacid just got smaller as the drug maker of generic ranitidine under the brand name of Zantac has pulled distribution of the medication world wide. Last week the FDA stated they found cancer causing chemicals in some samples taken from batches of generic rantitidine or Zantac. https://www.fda.
Avatar m tn gov/drugs/drug-safety-and-availability/fda-updates-and-press-announcements-ndma-zantac-ranitidine and here is the info on safety. https://www.fda.gov/safety/medical-product-safety-information/zantac-ranitidine-safety-information-ndma-found-samples-some-ranitidine-medicines. They didn't tell people to stop taking it at that time. I would personally not worry about taking it previously. Hope that helps.
Avatar m tn Anyone hear ever been prescribed Lansoprazole to treat acid reflux / GERD? I was prescribed Lansoprazole about a month in a half ago. I started taking it the first two weeks but then noticed some unusual symptoms. First and most importantly, my acid reflux seemed to have worsened at times. I would have burps were I could taste the acid (sour taste) and feel my throat burn. However more alarming I started having weird sensations in the left side of my body, stomach, side, and chest.
7349088 tn?1390657733 Has anyone taken zantac during pregnancy for heartburn? I'm 22+5 and have heartburn almost every other day. Sometimes it's so bad that I just want to sleep so i don't feel it.

Avatar n tn I've been dealing with gerd issues for the last half year. Colonoscopy and endoscopy were negative. I did do a series of rolling barium stomach xray which did show my stomach was on a roller coaster ride. I've been on most of the meds for gerd, from Zantac to Nexium to Lansoprazole to Pantoprazole. In December I started to develope numbness in my left foot and right hand. (Last night I noticed my left anke was swollen.
Avatar f tn To help control the stomach acid, one should not drink alcohol or drinks with caffeine in them, or eat chocolate or spicy or greasy foods .Take some OTC antacid like Mylanta. You can also take zantac(ranitidine)or prilosec(omeprazole). These will help. Also keep your fluid electrolyte balance optimum by drinking lots of fluids. If the symptoms persist then pls consult a physician. Hope it helps.
Avatar n tn Many doctors do require their patients to go off H2 blockers (a specific type of antihistamine. H2 blockers inclue Zantac (ranitidine) and Pepcid. I cannot recall the chemical in Pepcid at the moment. Another questionable med is Elavil (amitriptyline). It is an antidepressant but has some antihistamine qualities. Every doctor is different on these meds. Many don't want to cause issues with going off of these meds.
Avatar n tn The GI doc has me switching off omeprazole (prilosec) in the morning and ranitidine (zantac) before bed. Switching the two helps and of course watching what I eat and drink, Right now I am uncomfortable from my dinner - the giant milk shake was a bit too much milk and sugar for me. I have no saage advice for this one.... but can definitely commiserate.
593603 tn?1229378162 Does anyone know if you can take Zantac 75 during your first trimester for heartburn? I took it with my first pregnancy, but it was a lot later in the pregnancy. I am dying here, and need a fix.
Avatar m tn I've been researching this since it became public a few months ago, and personally I no longer trust the ((fda))). They let this on the market 35 years ago without testing it... now after decades of use and people getting cancer they are now testing it... My question is how long after you take this Zantac will it take for cancer to appear ?
Avatar m tn Some meds do cause ur system to be more acidic and it may not b mentioned as a side effect, but everyone is diff...so u may experience a side effect that no one else has. Have u mentioned this to ur dr?...if not, it may be helpful to do so.
Avatar n tn Take some OTC antacid like Mylanta. You can also take zantac(ranitidine)or prilosec (omeprazole). These will help. Also keep your fluid electrolyte balance optimum by drinking lots of fluids. If the symptoms worsen then it may be due to H.Pylori infection. You need antibiotics in that case after prescription from a physician. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Avatar n tn Hi everyone, My name is Krista. I am 25 years old. About 9 months ago I was diagnosed with CIU. Around the time I started getting the hives, I also had a low grade fever and a "general ill" feeling for about 3 weeks before. A little medical background: I also have anxiety, panic disorder, depression, and HSV II "of other site" (meaning i get it on my leg). I first was started on Cetirizine, 10 mg. When that didn't help, I was started on a whole handful of pills.
Avatar n tn The cipro label says no antiacids, but specificly does not list ranitidine, the main ingredient in zantac. Can I take my zantac or not, is my question, as I have terrible acid reflux because of nsaids that I take for back and shoulder pain. Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn I use ranitidine. Brand name is Zantac. Works really well and is safe for baby. That's what my doctor told me to use.
