Zantac ppi

Common Questions and Answers about Zantac ppi

zantac

Avatar f tn I suppose Nexium 40mg and Zantac 150mg each day that I was taking are considered either PPI and/or H2RA? Those are what I was instructed to stop 5-7 days prior to the test. Thank you!
Avatar n tn Thanks for your response. I have not been experiencing any more symptoms since I changed the time of my last meal of the day. I believe it was my diet. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Anyhow, there are a variety of different ppi meds other than nexium, and prilosec. There are also other drugs like zantac, like tagamet and pepcid that may help. Some people take as much as 80mgs of nexium a day for severe cases. Others as little as 20mgs in a.m. with mylanta throughout the day and zantac or tagamet at night. It all differs with which physician each person has. I'm not sure what Lamisil is. The soreness if from the acid which causes inflammation. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn With that said, my doctor said if I can manage on the Zantac either once or twice a day to do that, since Zantac has less side effects. Chewing gum during the day helps me a lot too. No stress, but a year ago when this started my whole family did get a cold, and this is when I thought it was asthma, but it wasn't. I had a GI scope about 3 months before this and was on the Protonix but was off by the time I had this first episode of chest issues.
Avatar f tn If it quits working then switch off of the H2 Antagonist drugs (zantac, pepcid etc) and go to the PPI (omeprazole etc) as they are much stronger and instead of reducing stomach acid they turn it off altogether.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Tecta (which from my research, I believe is Pantoprazole) is a PPI and Zantac is a H2 blocker, so the answer most likely is that, yes you can take both of these together, but I would still recommend checking this out with your doctor.
Avatar f tn I have GERD for about 7 years now. I've tried every PPI on the market and had all tests done. Dr says I have high acid level and my stomach and esophagus is inflamed. For the last week, I have a burning sensation in my abdomen (intestines) and bad heartburn. Also, I have a lot of phlegm in my throat.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with GERD a few years back. I have been on a PPI for 5-6 years. My stomach bugs me often and it feels more like gastritis than GERD, it feels irritated more than having GERD symptoms, but I have a really weird symptom which I have shared with my GI doc but he doesn't seem to excited about it. Sometimes when I drink cold liquids I can feel the cold water hit my stomach and the cold sensation radiates in my GI vault.
Avatar m tn H2 Blockers like Zantac can make some people drowsy, so if Zantac does that to you, then you are likely to be even more drowsy combined with Xanax. I would check with your GI doc. He will be more familiar with how Zantac, Nexium, and Xanax react to one another. Your pharmacist is also a good person to ask. Good luck.
Avatar n tn s you have to SLOWLY and cautiously wean off of them through the assistance of Zantac 150 and the PPI, SLOWLY eliminating the PPI, then after months of the double Zantac, dropping down on that dosage, and hopefully, within 6-9 months I can be free of stomach meds unless it becomes necessary for me to use them again.
Avatar f tn I recently stopped Pepcid due to dizziness and hallucinations, and found that it had also been the cause of unexplained itching and right leg pain (all subsided when I stopped the med). I have had chest pain on Nexium and zantac. Now that I am on the Prilosec, I am having shortness of breath, chest tightness, dizziness, and malaise. Is this serious? If I have H.
Avatar f tn I am taking Carafate for a gastric erosion with gastritis. All of the ppi medicines failed to help. How long should it take to see an improvement in symptoms with Carafate? I've only been on it for 4 days so far. I usually have pain everyday and have been dealing with this for about a year now.
Avatar f tn If so is there another drug that can help with reflux/heartburn that is not a PPI? I had problems with Nexium as well (dizziness and rapid heart rate) so I'm hesitant to try another PPI drug.
Avatar m tn Take Prevacid as example, if you start from 30mg qd, then step 2 is 30mg odd days and 15mg even days, step 3 is 15mg per day, step 4 is 15mg odd days and Zantac even days, step 5 is Zantac every day, step 6 is Zantac odd days and antacid even days, step 7 is antacid every day, step 8 is antacid as needed. You need to make sure there is no acid rebound every step of the tapering process. I'm told to stay on PPI for at least a year when I will get another upper endoscopy.
709686 tn?1277432159 Problem is my prescription insurance has run out so I now have to purchase Zantac or Prilosec OTC. Anyway...I started with Prilosec (omeprozole) and all was well until day 6 when I developed the worst, constant, headache, skin rash on my arm and blurry vision.
Avatar f tn Here is a web site for your condition, www.uthscsa.edu/oto/lpr.asp. I had this same problem for many years and fixed it by changing my diet. I eat a low glycemic high fiber diet, 5 small meals a day, low fat and good fat only, drink lots of water. I have little to no alcohol, spicy foods, greasy fatty foods, acidic foods and caffeine. Also you may want to take digestive enzymes with every meal. I found that this helps greatly. I do not know if you should sing or not.
Avatar n tn i also encountered one day where i had black stool. i went to a physician and required me meds zantac and i think the meds are not making me satisfied.do you i have risk for cancer like my grandma? im really paranoid. i need help. please thanks!
1391312 tn?1421086993 Well the DR put me on Dexilant a newer PPI and Zantac 150mg 2 X a day.....He said it was really bad in there, he thinks it's due to this stress over the HCV & other family issues. I asked him about the Riba and Reflux he said I would not know if that would be a problem for me unless I started on it.---Same answer for Riba-Rage.--It's like a dog chasing it's tail, talking to him. I see another Dr. on Thursday, that question will be on the list.
Avatar n tn I tried Kapidex which also worked perfectly for about 3 months and then completely stopped working. Zantac worked for about a month and is now subsiding. My doctor has added carafate, but the pains are still not gone. They usually come when I haven't eaten for a while and let myself get hungry at all. I try to eat every 2-3 hours but am not always able to. I had an endoscopy recently which showed some gastritis and irritation, but nothing else. I tested negative for H. Pylori.
Avatar m tn once a day for about a month and then change to an over-the-counter medication, like Prilosec or Zantac for about 6 months. After a month without symtoms, even though the medication was decreased I am unsure which medication, of the over-the-counter choices to chage to. I read about the negative effects of long term medications that actually stop acid production. Which of the two is best, or what else might be effective and correct. Thank you.
290867 tn?1333569278 I just wanted to give everyone an update on everything with Julian. Since the last time I posted he has been put on Zantac for his GERD and acid reflux and when he began screaming in pain while eating they also put him on Carafate to help coat his horribly damaged esophagus! The next day after taking both meds he had the worst diaper rash and he is now on a perscription diaper rash ointment as well. He seems to be doing better but still in some pain!
Avatar n tn All of the PPIs are going to have side-effects but people can tolerate some brands better than others. If she's having a problem with one brand of PPI, then she needs to try another one. Don't let the doc tell you that all PPIs are the same - they're not.
Avatar m tn I HAVE BEEN PRESCRIBED 150MG OF ZANTAC AND ALSO 40MG OF NEXIUM DAILY FOR RELIEF OF POST NASAL MUCUS CONGESTION. ARE THE COMBINATION EXCESSIVE?
Avatar m tn If so are H2 meds like Pepcid and Zantac ok, or are PPI meds like Prilosec and Prevacid better? Thanks and have a great day!
Avatar f tn I read that it irritates the esophagus when this haopens. I gave him Tums last night and he started taking Zantac today. He said that it is not burning as much but is just pretty bothersome when swallowing. Anyone know of anything else to do for this or how long this will last? Thanks!
Avatar m tn 2 years ago while driving i got a sudden tightness- not pain- in my lower throat/ upper chest and almost passed out- went to ED- had EKG, cardiac enzymes both negative was put on PPI for GERD-was thought to be esophageal spasm irritating my vagus nerve- 2 weeks later by EGD had dx small hiatal hernia and mild esoph. irritation(had been on PPI for 2 weeks at this point)- for my own sanity had cardiac workup of 30 day monitor ECHO and stress test- all came back- very healthy heart.
Avatar f tn My daughter age 15 was diagnosed with GERD after several months of pain and testing. She has been on Prevacid and Zantac for a month now. She has been pain free since starting her meds. Although in the past month she has gained 10 lbs. Has anyone else suffered from this? We eat a mostly vegetarian diet. She swims a hour 4x a week. Thanks for any info you can give me.
