Zantac for asian flush

Common Questions and Answers about Zantac for asian flush

zantac

Avatar f tn It is a great idea for you to stop drinking completely. The condition called 'Asian flush' is an indicator of a lack of a certain enzyme normally responsible for breaking down acetaldehyde in alcohol. If you have 'Asian flush' and continue drinking even one ore two drinks a day, you will have six to ten times the risk of developing esophageal (food pipe) cancer as a drinker not deficient in this enzyme.

Avatar n tn I am a Caucasian woman in my 60s who has just begun to flush (cheeks only) after a glass of alcohol. This began last year for 5 or 6 times in spring 2018, then disappeared all summer, then started up again in mid-fall 2018. I drink no more than 1 glass of wine a few times per week, so it's not b/c of amount. I have Asian friends who say that they can't drink b/c of "Asian Flush" - they're missing an enzyme that doesn't allow their bodies to process alcohol.
Avatar m tn From wikipedia Alcohol flush reaction (colloquially referred to as Asian Flush, Asian Red or Asian Glow) is a condition in which the face and/or body experiences flushes or blotches, due to an accumulation of acetaldehyde. The acetaldehyde accumulation can be caused by a missense polymorphism that encodes the enzyme, acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2),[1] normally responsible for breaking down acetaldehyde, a product of the metabolism of alcohol.
Avatar m tn I think you would be better off asking this question over on the alcohol addiction forum they will have more knowledge.
Avatar f tn With all the evidence about "Asian flush" being linked to cancer, high blood pressure etc, should those with this condition give up drinking completely or just drink in moderation?
Avatar n tn but im thinking of trying zantac for her the least doisage possible just to cjeck if it will reduce the spitting and the crankiness after feeds, but i also don't want her tummy to get used to it since my self i have been on omeprazole for years and can't live without it.. it's only during my pregnancy that I have changed to zantac and in severe cases pariet or lanzor.
7349088 tn?1390657733 Has anyone taken zantac during pregnancy for heartburn? I'm 22+5 and have heartburn almost every other day. Sometimes it's so bad that I just want to sleep so i don't feel it.
3055148 tn?1368211800 Has anyone ever taken Zantac? My doctor told me to take that everyday instead of taking tums b/c they are pointless, but I kinda don't wanna take medicine.
Avatar n tn My doctor is telling me to give my 7 year old Zantac for a kidney infection, but I can't find any information on whether or not this is a proper treatment- I just want to be sure??
Avatar n tn Thanks for the information. I did more research on this subject and found a disorder called Asian Flush. Symptoms include the redness, increased heart rate, headache, and nausea. I have read that taking Pepcid AC is a treatment for the redness because Pepcid AC supresses the histamine receptors or something like that. However, when I drink I only turn red, I don't feel the nausea or headache or notice increased heart rate.
Avatar f tn s nasal bone was short and is a possible marker for down syndrome. I am Asian and my husband is asian too.. I'm 25 years old and he's 26, i want to know what are the odds?

Avatar m tn COMPLAINT -- I am 32 year old male with no prior problems with alcohol (and I am not an alcoholic; I am a social non-binge drinker), and quite suddenly I now have severe response to alcohol. I don't think this is true for all liquors (so far it is happened to me after red wine, and mixed drink with vodka khalua).
Avatar f tn My daughter kept aspirating so they had to thickenher milk by adding rice cereal to her formula and also giving her zantac. Zantac works well for acid reflux she's able to eat without spitting up. Everything will be fine .
Avatar m tn I am 32m; history of social drinking no drinking problems. Suddenly I now have odd alcohol response. I don't think this is true for all liquors (so far only occurred after red wine, and mixed drink with vodka khalua).
674555 tn?1272600376 ve noticed that when I drink even 2 drinks, my HR raises as much as 20bpm above resting and I get flush and sweaty. I've had lab work and my liver enzymes are fine (normal range), and no heart problems, I exercise regularly but I was a heavy drinker in college but this never effected me til 4 months ago. I also rarely drink maybe once every 2 months or so and not to excess, I did a little research and initially thought ALDH deficiency but thats mainly in people of asian decent. any ideas??
