Zantac and infant reflux

Common Questions and Answers about Zantac and infant reflux

zantac

Avatar n tn I'm a nanny and have looked after many newborns, plenty with reflux, with which the 5 wk old I now care for has been diagnosed. We are trying him with all the usual treatments, - gaviscon, omeprozole, zantac, domperidon... you name it...- and he is responding to non of these, which is quite normal, some babies don't and just have to suffer til they grow out of it, and we can help as much as poss keeping them upright etc.
1330108 tn?1333677304 I mentioned her reflux at every appt (3) and said they were getting worse and told him what she was doing and that keeping her propped up wasn't helping out so much. He told me to keep her on Soy for another week, but friday night she went to the ER for an allergic reaction to it. So...nutramigen it is. With reflux babies you have to play chemist and figure out which amount of rice cereal is what they need to keep the formula down and you sometimes have to play with the dosage of zantac.
Avatar f tn if i may chime in... did you nurse and pump or only pump? It is possible your supply tanked simply because some people don't respond well to pumps, or you didn't have a good pump (hospital grade), or you didn't pump frequently enough (15 minutes every 2 hours). Like Peek said, it could've been totally out of your hands. I know someone who tried every pump under the sun but couldn't get a drop. When her son finally learned to nurse months later, she had plenty to nourish him.
Avatar f tn I was born with acid relfex and I've had it my whole life, the doctor I had when I was a baby overdosed me on zantac which caused me to have pulmonary, lung, and more stomach issues. So I'm wondering could that have long term effects because I'm still dependent on medicine to keep me from being sick and I wanted to know if there is cause for a malpractice suit?
Avatar n tn My 5 yr old has always had stomach issues. When he was an infant, lots of reflux, constipation. Then as a toddler he has struggled with constipation and stomach aches. He has been on Miralax for years. The past few months the stomach aches are daily. He is not constipated now, having a bm everyday. The constistancy of the stools seem to vary greatly throughout the day, though. Sometimes soft and then the next one may be hard.
7349088 tn?1390657733 I take Zantac 150 once a day as prescribed by my Dr. I've had terrible acid reflux and it seems to be helpful. It's safe ..my neighbor gives her 4 month old baby zantac for silent reflux as prescribed by her pediatrician.
Avatar f tn Go pick up zantac 150 or 75 mg. If 75 mg take 1 pill twice daily and then take tums as needed. Zantac should prevent the heartburn but if it doesnt work on occasion take tums (i normally take 4 extra strength tums or 2 ultra strength at a time) I was prescribed zantac 75 mg twice a day with my first baby and told to take tums if for some reason zantac doesnt help so its perfectly safe!
Avatar f tn She was drinking both bottle and breast milk till she was 5 week old and all of a sudden she stopped taking both breast and bottle and shows no hunger and now we have to encourage her each feed. She take 1 to 2 ounce every feed. Totally she takes 15 to 16 ounces of milk in 24 hours time. This too after so much of encouragement. What could be wrong with her. Her doc said she might have GERD and she is on Zantac for a week now with no improvment.
779913 tn?1236003421 However, recently we have been having more issues and was taken to the doctors. While there they started her on meds for acid reflux and are currently trying to get her into see the ped GI here. What I was wondering is if anyone has found that their child has a speech delay due to their reflux..
Avatar f tn I take the Walmart brand of Zantac sometimes twice a day. I took it for the last 3 to 4 months Of my first pregnancy and it never went away and so when I got pregnant again I took it and get bad and the Dr said 2 a day was safe and so here I am baby 3 and taking it and all my babies are fine :-D take a Zantac don't struggle.
Avatar f tn I am 28w4d today and have really bad acid reflux weekday do you ladies do to help with it?
Avatar f tn Baby is pushing up on stomach, progesterone is relaxing muscles, and having awful acid reflux. I was nauseous & vomiting again until I started the Zantac. If you feel acid in your throat too talk to doc about reflux. For the back pain I soak in the tub.
Avatar f tn I just hope she does grow out of it and she does not keep the reflux. The bad part is, they say that it can be heriditary and I have reflux and have had to take Nexium for 8 years now. Anyway, thanks again!
Avatar f tn Im 12 weeks tomorrow and through out my pregnancy ive been having bad acid reflux.. can i take anything?
Avatar f tn I am still having burning in my throat of and on all day. there is no pattern. And I have a sore throat off and on again no reasoning to when. I may have it am or pm or not at all.I may burn once a day am or pm or I may not burn but hurt or I might burn all day long. I was wondering is there a better treatment. I have heard people taking nexium am and zantac pm? I think if I could get the raw spot better I would be fine. I really don't have heartburn except in my throat.
Avatar f tn There are other meds out there (not sure if they are all FDA approved for infant usage, though so you must discuss with your Dr but when the risks outweight the benefits they will oftentimes use the med) .. Zantac and other supressors are a thought .. they can be given up to 3X a day with Mylanta inbetween if your Dr. agrees .. A Pedi GI may be the way to go at this point .. this is there speciality and they are more liberal with the meds working with you. How are his poops?
Avatar f tn My doctor recommends Zantac and tums. However, a friend recommended almonds.
Avatar f tn Hey ladies I'm about 9.5 weeks and currently am having constant avid reflux. I remember having it with my last pregnancy but not this bad! Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, what are you doing for remedies?
Avatar f tn Thanks y'all!!! Baby was really high yesterday and it was horrible. He moved down a bit and bam! Acid reflux gone lollllll. But I'm sure it will make its way back.
Avatar f tn Zantac is the only thing that works for me. Dinner time is when I get it the worst. So I take it while my husband cooks.
Avatar n tn At 2 months he was diagosed with silent reflux and put on Zantac. He did very well for 1 week. He had his 2month shots and then spiraled out of control. He went to the hospital because he wasn't eating and his reflux seem extremely aggreviated. The hospital took adomial ex-rays (which were normal) and ran some blood tests that were normal. The hospital couldn't run certain tests because his blood kept clotting. His dose of Zantac was increased and he was put on Nutragamin formula.
Avatar f tn My OB told me Zantac is safe and it works like a dream.
11116547 tn?1415690651 Does anyone know of any over the counter medicine that safe to take while pregnant and having acid reflux? Ive been using tums and im not gonna lie it did help out alot at first but it seems since my beebee has dropped my reflux has gotten worse. Believe me i was looking forward to her dropping to relieve some of the reflux but unfortunately it hasn't. Thanks.
280369 tn?1316702041 I took it in my pregnancy in the last trimester, one a day before bed and my baby is a healthy 8 week old now. I had really bad reflux and nothing else I tried worked. My Dr said it was ok to take since I was only having one a day. If I were you I would take your doctor's advice. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I had acid reflux and I just drank soda water to clear it up. I mean I just drank enough to burp and I was fine. If I drank too much it made it worse. I also ate smaller meals. I refused any type of meds, but that's because mine wasn't that bad. *****. I hope you feel better.
Avatar n tn Our six-month old son is having a hard time staying asleep in his crib. He has Acid Reflux and has been taking Zantac for the past three weeks; he doesn't like taking even Zantac with flavoring and ends up taking a little over half of what we give him. My wife has had him in a consistent nighttime routine for the past few months: feeding (he started solids just about a month ago and has really taken to it), followed by bath time, followed by nursing with Mom, then he goes down.
