Common Questions and Answers about Zantac and hives

zantac

Avatar m tn I am on currently on antihistamines and zantac and I got a steriod shot a month ago and took prednisone for 6 days all prescribed by an allergist. It is better than it was in the begining but anything I touch (desk, purse strap, clothes) causes me to get welts and then it breaks out into itchy bumps. Benadryl doesn't seem to help but I do sleep well when I take it. Someone mentioned H pylori so I'm wondering if I should see my GP. Thanks for the advice.
Avatar m tn Your best bet would be to seek consultation at an academic institution, with resources dedicated to treatment and research on hives. One such would be the National Jewish Medical and Research Center. Your daughter's allergist might be able to recommend another. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I am now taking 2 mulitvitamins a day and 1000 IU of Vitamin D along with 6 Zyrtec and 2 Zantac and I am still breaking out every day! I have only been taking the vitamins for a week, so I am seeing if that will work eventually, but this is so frustrating! Help!!!!!
Avatar f tn t be able find the true reason for the hives. In the meantime I am still breaking out even with the Allegra, Zantac and the Hydroxyzine I am taking. So with all this said should I have the blood work done, or should I see an Endo or is there a link between the two??? Can you please give me some insight?? I am frustrated.

Avatar n tn I cant exercise, i cant even go outside in the winter, i break out in hives every single day and every time i do, my throat gets real scratchy, and really gets be scared. On top of that i'm also highly allergic to dust, molds, pollen, dander, and almost every other airborne allergens. So when i dont get hives from CU, i get them from the airborne allergens.
Avatar m tn you are the first. Allegra/Zantac combo can solve this problem? Helped me when I got hives from my first treatment of Interferon/Ribavirin. Check with your doctor.
Avatar f tn I should also mention, that these hives show up randomly all day at any given point in the day. I will wake up fine and then randomly I was itchy, only to look down and see the start of them on my arms and shoulders. My husband doesn't have any hives/rashes, and we do live with 4 cats and 1 dog but according to my allergy test I am not allergic to them.
Avatar f tn I suspect I have been suffering from hypothyroidism for a number of years. I am still experiencing symptoms with treatment and the hives come and go as they please. My DR sent me to an allergist who believes that the hives are a result of high TSH and I agree, but my latest labs came back 'normal'. DR did increase the Levothyroxine to 75mcg because she(thankfully) is treating me based on how I feel instead of the lab results.
Avatar f tn He tested for a large variety of autoimmune disorders. The doctor is treating my symptoms with Zantac, Zyrtec, and Singulair. I still wake up to hives every morning. And do not get any new ones during the day. I want to solve the problem at the source. Can anyone help me?
4477719 tn?1355188618 I'm doing better I did revisit my doctor he gave me Zantac which has helped alot. I'm having alot less itching and breakouts and we both think stress has been the cause. Thank for responding to my concern it is always nice to get some helpful information.
Avatar n tn When discharged from the ER I was given prednisone, diphenhydramine and zantac. Assuming this is an allergy driven event, I would like to know when my immune system stabalizes, does the allergy go away? ;) Thank you ahead of time.
Avatar m tn I have been breaking out with hives on my hands and feet for a couple years now. after family doctor visits, a skin doctor visit and finally an algernist. I now know I am alergic to many things - the worst being dust mites and certain kinds of molds. I have always had algeries to most the rest of the things that I am alergic too. just now in the last two years with the advent in my life of my newest pet dog according to my algernist the dog is the final trigger that got the hives coming on.
Avatar n tn I have had the same problem. I had never had hives or any sort of allergic reaction to anything before about 8 months ago. I woke up with hives covering my neck, face, back, and torso. Since, then, every single day, without fail, I have broken out in hives. Like yours, they vary in size, severity, when they occur, even sometimes shape. I have been to countless doctors.
Avatar m tn acute and chronic (when hives persist for more than 6 weeks). Acute hives can start and persist many times during a day but chronic hives are there when hives are present for more than 6 weeks. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn You would most likely have to see an allergist for testing. You should continue to take the benadryl, prednisone, and the zantac as prescribed and you should follow up with your primary care doctor. It can take you a few days to start to feel better, depending on how many doses of the antibiotics you actually took before you had the reaction. Also, make sure that you always remember that you are allergic to these antibiotics and you should not take them again.
Avatar f tn I am a 18 year old man that first had a breakout when I was playing basketball with my friends in February of this year. My inner arms by my elbow,we're just red, it kind of itched a little, and I kind of brushed it off. It has only gotten worse, I have gone under many tests that all come back negative, thyroid, lupis, autoimmune, etc... I am currently taking 1 Zantac 150 mg in the morning and night, 1 allegra in the morning, 2 zyrtec at night, and benedryl every 4 hours.
Avatar n tn I HAVE TO TAKE ALLEGRA IN AM ZYRTREC IN AFTERNOON AND AN ITCHING RX ALONG WITH STEROIDS, IF I MISS A DOSE ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY APPEAR, CHECK WITH AN ALLERGY SPECIALIST
Avatar f tn The hives returned when I stopped the Prednisone so I am back to the cyproheptadine, Zyrtec and Zantac. I am sure my hives are autoimmune related since I had them and the angioedema back when I was 10 years old. Having read the many experiences of others, I am going to try some probiotics since that couldn't hurt and I am desperate. If you can tolerate Prednisone, it is worth having a break from the chronic hives because the hives can drive you crazy. It is good to get some relief.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering from progressively worsening swelling in my lips, hands, and feet and hives in my midsection, legs, and occasionally arms. I have been to three different urgent cares, two allergists, a dermatologist, and two general practice doctors, and I always get the same answer: They don't know what it is or what is causing it, but they do know it is some sort of autoimmune disorder.
Avatar m tn scary part is that the welts moved to my scrotum...this prompted my first doctor visit. Dr. says probably hives and said to treat with claritin and zantac. Neither did much. 4 days after my first dr visit, I have to go back b/c hives were popping up on my legs, knees, etc. He finally prescribed a medrol dose pack (steroid). This gave me temporary relief (Wednesday-Tuesday, about 5-6 days).
Avatar f tn I started keeping a journal of what I was eating and could not find anything definite myself. I had a friend whose mother suffered from hives and reflux and had testing done and never found any allergy, but she took 1 Claritin and 1 Zantac every day for a year before it went away. So I started that regimin as the Benadryl was really making me groggy all the time. They do help, but I still have the hives as I can see them, they just don't itch.
Avatar f tn I have seen a Dermatologist who says I need to accept the fact that I will not know what is causing the hives and to treat the hives (allegra and zantac) I have seen the Allergist who wants to check for an autoimmune disease which I don't understand because Hashimotos is an autoimmune disease or problem I thought. My thyroid doctor says there is no link between the thyroid and the hives and has taken a leave of abscence from his practice.
Avatar f tn (at least twice a week on my face) and hives all over, moving around from day to day. Antihistamines do nothing. Zantac may or may not help my swelling and heartburn. Steroids actually seem to make it worse as I come off of them, although the allergist said that is not possible, he is not the one that almost was in the E.R. both times that I had come off a round of Prednisone. If these reactions are due to hormonal imbalances why is there no help for us?
