Fishy smell more likely indicates a bacterial vaginosis (BV)
infection, which is slightly different from a
yeast infection. It requires antibiotics instead of vaginal suppositories. In both cases discharge often accompanies the smell (cottage cheese white for yeast infections, whitish-grey for BV).
Next time you notice this, nicely mention it to her. In either case, she should get it treated.
