Avatar n tn Is it possible for a female dog to get a yeast infection? She has been licking herself more than usual and I noticed she left a brownish discharge after sitting on a blanket. She doesn't whine or seem uncomfortable and is just as active as usual. Is there a homeopathic remedy that I can give her? BTW, she is spayed.
Avatar m tn First it was a year infection, then it was a rod bacteria infection, now it is an enterococcus infection, or so they say. She has been on 3 different medications, including baytril and postatex and 2 different antibiotics, has had a deep ear cleaning which required sedation and has had several ear swab/cultures. Has anyone else had this problem and, if so, how did you finally treat it.
Avatar f tn Food allergies usually rear their ugly heads in pups under 1 year. You might try a food elimination diet. try a limited protein like natures recipe vegetarian or venison. This is the hard part no treat or anything but the food for at least 10 weeks to see if really helps. You can give carrots, canned pumpkin, marshmallow or banana for treats instead during this time. If that helps then easy fix and he'll be healthier enjoying those treats instead.
Avatar m tn My dog has a mild yeast infection in her left ear but she may have a tear in her eadrdrum. The vet gave us TrizEDTA but due to her losing her hearing from Tri-Otic, we didn't want to use any more ear medication that can cause hearing loss. I've recently started making her home cooked meals, wipe her down with apple cider vinegar+water, and flushing her ears out every other day plus cleaning the outer part of her ears on days I don't flush.
370181 tn?1595629445 My vet, who we have taken 23 years worth of animals to, will not let us make payments to help our dog who has a yeast infection in his ears and which seems to be spreading to the other creatures who allow us to live here. My dog is a rescued shepard/sheltie cross. He had been shot, beaten, legs broken and starved, then tossed into a snow covered field to wait for death to find him. Fortunately, a kindhearted farmer found him first.
5769293 tn?1373926011 ) He has discovered that his dog is allergic to yeast. He was feeding the dog a good food which contained yeast (for vitamins) When he stopped that food and changed it to totally yeast-free, the problems subsided. That would also apply to any sugars. I think the best thing might be to research a food for him which is completely natural. That will be quite a task, but worth doing. Even if it costs more. Think of what you will save in vet's bills and ointments/medications etc.
423279 tn?1203562853 Is there any possibility of finding a vet to make a house call in your area?
Avatar n tn It sounds like a yeast infection. Your dog will need antibiotics and a cleaning solution. It will NOT go away without the antibiotic, so please take him to the vet ASAP!
Avatar f tn I'd stay away from creams for now until you can get the advice of a vet. Is there an ER vet you can call for advice in your area? I've phoned in similar questions to our ER clinic and they've always been great about answering them over the phone without insisting that we bring in the dog. As long as they know the dog is being treated by a vet, they're fine with giving medical advice over the phone. Worth a try anyway.
Avatar m tn t possible to say what would work until the problem is understood. For example, if the dog also has a smell it may be a skin dermatitis or yeast infections. Some breeds seem to be more prone to yeast. If that's the case a medicated treatment that disrupts the yeast infection has to be used. It is possible to get over-the-counter medicated dog shampoo with 1% (I think that's the small level) ketoconazole which can help stop yeast.
Avatar n tn You may also want to have the dog checked for a yeast infection and have thyroid checked. Regular Brushing is often better than frequent bathing. A friend of my daughter had a Basset Hound that always smelled no matter how often they bathed him or with what. He did end up having a thyroid problem. Just a thought.
557644 tn?1222822602 I have a West Highland Terrier and he has skin allergies. He was having problems with yeast infections in his ears too. The vet said our dog probably has food allergies, so he prescribed a special dog food and prescribed medication, which helped the itching tremendously while he was on it.
Avatar n tn i have a 1 yr old american bull dog and pit bull mix. it seems her right ear gets infected. she eats lam and rice dog food with no corn in it.. i took her to the vet and he gave droped and tested for ear mite.. there was know ear mites and the drops didnot work, we have tryed pils from the vet... it goes away and come back weve noticed that it goes away faster if we feed her raw eggs. does any one know what could be causing this or if it is common.
Avatar n tn I use a vet shampoo Malsorb I think it is called to help control yeast infection and for sensitive skin .. no perfumes, etc. My ShihTzu gets yeast odor very easily when not on this shampoo. Also has had the red you talk about and it was a moist yeast infection in my dog's case in the area you describe and cream for a week cleared it up ok. Then she ended up with that in her ears recently and liquid of the same med worked fine.
762181 tn?1234387776 Some family members moved into my uncle’s house and they brought a tiny little dog with them. The dog apparently was allergic to pine trees because it developed a terrible skin rash and began loosing skin everywhere. My Uncle got really sick from this. At first it was just respiratory. His lungs seized up and his muscles began spasming. From here things got worse.
Avatar f tn I had the same trouble with one of my dogs. Every summer she got yeast infections in her feet. She'd cool off in the pool, and since she had big hairy toe pads, they harbored moisture and made a perfect environment for fungus. The stench was horrible! My vet recommended Dermachlor Flush Plus, and it was a godsend. It comes in a bottle and I'd squirt it on her toe pads and in between her toes twice a day for 3 days. Fungus gone.
689528 tn?1364135841 You need to look into this being a Yeast Infection.....If that's the case, antibiotics will make it worse......Please google Nzymes.Com and read everything you can from their site......I feel it will help you and your dog out....Karla P.S. What food is it and for how long?
237053 tn?1258828426 I've been dealing with a big yeast infection and my tongue gets that way sometimes too. I think Wonko once mentioned something I've also seen written elsewhere too, which is to swish around but DO NOT SWALLOW water with hydrogen peroxide in it. I forget the proportions. You can google it. *I think I've read that hydrogen peroxide is poisonous if you swallow it.* But it blasts the little yeast bugs to bits, so I've read. (I stick to Listerine cause I'm a chicken.
Avatar f tn I have seen people have to use medicine for, in a couple of cases, almost 30 days to completely get rid of a yeast infection in the ears. It could be also be a case of either the wrong medication or even the right medication, just not for a long enough period of time. Your vet won't know unless you give her your feedback.
Avatar n tn bebo makes a great point: food allergies are often the root cause of chronic yeast overgrowth problems. You could also try probiotic digestive enzymes either from the pet store or the human herbal aisle at the grocery store. Acidopholus is a great first-line defense against yeast of any kind in the body, and is the same helpful ingredient found in active cultured yogurt like DanActive. Another great topical remedy to try with the feet is Dermachlor Flush Plus.
1600179 tn?1297621973 Finally after treating for that and changing her diet to no grain, she smells good for a change. One sign of yeast in the ears is if the dog rubs their head and ears almost like they are trying to scratch and itch with the carpet or floor.
