Common Questions and Answers about Xyzal for urticaria

xyzal

Avatar n tn Hello, Since you are getting these hives since july, so the possibility of chronic urticaria is high in your case. It is defined as urticaria that persists for longer than 6 weeks. In most of the cases of chronic urticaria, the underlying pathology is idiopathic i.e. it is not linked to any cause. It is essential to rule out the presence of serious illnesses of which recurring hives can be a symptom.
Avatar f tn There is uncertainty in the disappearance of the urticaria. Some studies stated that if urticaria stays for more than 6 months there are 40% chances that it may persist for period of 10 years. In some cases it can disappear in a short period. I suggest you to consult a allergy specialist. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Hello, I see that you are having the problem of chronic urticaria. It is defined as urticaria that persists for longer than 6 weeks. Avatar m tn Hi. I have hives(urticaria) almost everyday for 12 weeks or so. I've seen 2 dermatologists. I've been on xyzal, doxepine and hydroxyzine with little or any real benefit. The hives are red and itch. They come and go. Other than that I have no other problems. My doc said they usually never find a reason and most go away over time. No blood tests ordered. Anyone have any suggestions? It's annoying.
Avatar f tn They are still kind of itchy, burn, and hurt. I went to the doctor he gave me some pills called xyzal. He told me to take one a day but i been taking them for two days and i feel a little better and some has gone away but my hands and feet got very swollen and hurtful. i dont know what it is and its scaring me because I've never been the type of person that has allergic reactions?
Avatar n tn Hi, Funny, but I think we have the same case. Sometime in August last year, I had insect bites, and my skin bulged and became irritated coz of those. My allergologist said I was allergic to the insect bites. about 3 months after, I had urticaria wheals, first time I got those, and I was hospitalized. Since then, my urticaria wheals have been appearing almost daily. They're worse when I'm in airconditioned rooms, and after physical exercise.
Avatar f tn You need to check for the above mentioned possibilities and get tested for allergies. For temporary relief you can use OTC antihistamines, benadryl, applying ice, avoiding alcohol, caffeine, hot baths, wearing tight clothes etc. Inspite of these measures if hives are not controlled then epinephrine or steroids are used for treating severe hives. Hope this helps. Best.

It is essential to rule out the presence of serious illnesses of which recurring hives can be a symptom. Examples are hepatitis, hyperthyroidism, lymphomas, collagen vascular diseases etc. The most potent antihistamine for urticaria is probably the anti-depressant doxepin.
Avatar n tn Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine(benadryl) or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. Application of topical steroids like dermacort is also helpful. You may take Vitamin C along with the prescribed treatment. Vitamin C is a general anti-allergy supplement. It helps stabilize mast cells so they are less likely to release histamine.
Avatar n tn I have been on Xyzal for 5-6 years and had to go off, suddenly, for a week due to allergy testing. I have itched and scratched myself until I have bruises on my legs, arms, and feet! It's absolutely horrible!! :( In response to the other person who replied to you, it's typically NOT an issue to stay on 2nd generation antihistamines, long-term. Nor is it a problem to quit them suddenly EXCEPT (apparently) with Xyzal and Zyrtec (both are Cetirizine-based).
Avatar n tn For the past year, I have been suffering from Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria. At first, the hives were quite sporadic, occurring once or twice a month, but since December 09, they've been occurring daily. They appear at different areas on my body (including my palms), but rarely on my face, and usually last 2-3 hours. I've been tested for allergies, both food and environmental, and the only positives were certain molds, trees, and grasses.
Avatar f tn After 8 months of constant hives, lip swelling, eye swelling and finger swelling, i went to an allergist and got prescribed Xyzal. It worked great for the first 2 weeks and i was over joyed to have my life back! But the past few days, some hives have started to come back. I have been taking benadryl along with the xyzal as needed. I was wondering if I could take 2 xyzal a day instead o 1. The only other medication that I am on is ortho cyclin birth control.
Avatar f tn t already been teste for thyroid issues, it would be a good idea. My allergist put me on 2 xyzal twice a day, which was way to much. I took two doses and was weak, tired and had panic attacks. I also have celiac disease and am trying to figure out if the xyzal is gluten free. I was taking benadryl. I dont do well with any antihistamines. I was taking Benadryl. There is also an injection you can get.
1763401 tn?1313380993 Hi im 14 and I also have aquagenic uticaria. I got diagnosed about 6 months ago but have had it for a year . I just recently found something for me that allows me to do just about anything now including swimming. It is called "xyzal". It takes 2 weeks to start working but I have used it for a month now and I went swimming for 2 hours and got no rash or anything. I was on the swim team and had to quit due to the uticaria but this upcoming season I can start back up again.
Avatar n tn No matter what time I go to bed, 10pm, 1am, 3am and take my Xyzal and Flucin-cream, I have for the past 6 days woke up between 7:43 and 7:48 am. No alarm, no usual schedule of that, nothing. My current dermotologist takes over a month to get into, and he seems convinced that its an allergy thing and wants to run a allergy test on me. I think it has nothing to do with allergies.
Avatar f tn I have been on 4 rounds of different antobiotics, nasal sprays, mucinex dm, xyzal, delsem, robitussin, prednezone and I also take protonix for gerd. Nothing seems to work I am 37 years old and for the most part have been healthy. I had a chest X-ray last May 07. showed nothing then. Should I be worried.
Avatar m tn Water urticaria, also known as aquagenic urticaria and aquagenous urticaria, is an extremely rare form of physical urticaria. It is sometimes described as an allergy. In affected persons, water on the skin causes hives to appear within 15 minutes and last for up to two hours. Water contact can cause aquagenic urticaria, presumably due to chlorine or some other trace chemical in the water, hence you don't exhibit reactions to distilled water.
Avatar f tn I finally figured it out its was only happening the nightd he would have the xyzal....The xyzal made the outside of his lobes and his ears feel like they were on fire!!!
Avatar f tn Ask you doctor about the Cymbalta one. I had one but it was only for one month. And there are really good one for Xyzal, Astepro and Omnaris. The others, I don't know. Skmedlin's advice was good.
Avatar n tn I am 12 weeks pregnant and for the last couple of days have had hives (cold urticaria I think it is called). I recognise it because the rash and feeling is exactly as it was when I was started taking the contraceptive pill twelve years ago. I stopped taking the pill once I'd realised it was this that was causing the hives all over my body.
