Xopenex for pneumonia

Common Questions and Answers about Xopenex for pneumonia

xopenex

Avatar n tn (I have had asthma my entire life and at the first signs of a sniffle and some tightness I immediately start a prednisone taper and Xopenex nebulizer). I was prescribed azithromycin and told to continue with my xopenex and prednisone. I also took cough syrup, sudafed and motrin. Saturday I was significantly worse and over the weekend it esciladed. My temperature would go from 96.2 to 100.5 and back down over a 30min period.
Avatar n tn My son had been diagnosed with pneumonia 4 times in the past four months, as well as bronchiolitis in between. He has been treated with Rocephin, Azithromycin, and Amoxil. He has breathing treatments 4 times a day (pulmicort & xopenex) has had 2 episodes of cyanosis, and been hospitalized for low oxygen satuation, wheezing etc. His pediatrician tells me I shouldn't panic and that he has asthma. He is only 13 mos old!
327369 tn?1326119908 Literally one day his lungs will be clear, maybe slight wheezing and then BAHM he has pneumonia. It is not controlled at all with the plan when a cold comes and none of the treatments work. Is this how asthma is for some people or is something more serious going on. I am just so concerned. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Update: I went in for a second opinion. I do have bronchiectasis and that is the reason for the continued green phelgm after the pneumonia has cleared. The doctor is having me use a vest airway clearance system and nebulizer to help me loosen and rid myself of the mucus.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for your feed back. I'm afraid you could be right about the pneumonia damaging my lungs so bad because I did not have this much trouble with breathing before that, even though I already had COPD. I have not been using my meds the way I'm suppose to because they made me start to breath worse and on the instructions it says to discontinue using and consult your Doctor. I did that and he changed the med only to have that one stop working also.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have a 6 year old son with autism and asthma who has currently started on the Xopenex for the asthma control. He has become extremely hyperactive and somewhat aggressive with the Xopenex, and I am wondering if there are any other meds that wouldn't have this side effect.
454286 tn?1205883067 We did that nothing changed. Sent him for second xray, which showed atalectasis and pneumonia altho the report didnt say any pneumonia, just atalectasis. Treated him with 10 days Augmentin and Pedia Pred. Cough cleared up, No sickness either. 6 days after antibiotics , breathing tx's and pedia pred finished, cough returns with fever. Had chest CT and doc says Atalectasis caused by Asthma. (I dont have this report in hand but will have exact report then). Could this be RMLS?
Avatar n tn The only thing that seems to help for any length of time is my Xopenex inhaler, even using the xopenex solution in my nebulizer sometimes makes me feel congested. I have been feeling so short of breath that I exercise very little and I know that is not helping matters. I go back to see my Pulmonary Dr. next month but he doesn't seem to be that interested in whats happening "just keep using your meds and exercise".
212161 tn?1599427282 thank you so much i have the rescue one xopenex hfa says its levalbuterol. than i have one for night its a powder its asmanex . i have been like this now for 2 months it seems to get better than last night it was not bad but woke me up at 1 could not sleep for coughing and wheezing and scared i was going have a bad attack and die from it , so i need the inhaler just to scared to take it. so are these ok or will the xop cause the heart speed. thank you so much.
Avatar n tn Hi, fast heart rate is due to Xopenex. Initially, use of this drug is associated with this side effect but over a period of time, tolerance usually develops. In case if you have a pre exisiting heart disease, please avoid this drug. Consult you treating doctor to lower the dose or frequency, other alternative is sustained release deriphylline tablets.
Avatar f tn I am going to ask for a sample of Xopenex to try for odor exposures again.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I'm still wheezing and have chest tightness when I exhale for 10 weeks now. I take Dulera/Singulair/Xopenex and Spiriva and sometimes Combivent. Is there a med like theophylline that can help me? I'm also having bad sleep apnea and am crippled by this and can't work or think because of my lung diseases. Is my sleep apnea caused by asthma or narrowed airway?
Avatar f tn It is not generally prescribed for short-term use. Inhaled steroids carry substantial risk, especially for children. Ask about alternative treatments if the xopenex is not sufficiently helpful..
1315759 tn?1274044788 or the breathing treatments? at the hospital, they give me xopenex, which works ok, not really good for me. the last time i went to the hospital, the therapist gave me atrovent and xopenex, with 4 doses in one. i told them it was making me too jittery, way more than normal and nobody listened. instead of getting better, it was staying the same and making me feel out of control. how can i get my doctor to prescribe me a pulse ox for at home?
312330 tn?1245176752 Flovent, serevent (essentially advair), singulair, zithromax and xopenex ( I am on several others but these are specifically for my asthmatic problems). Some people do very well on Theo...I hope that it works out for you.
Avatar n tn My question is...are there any other treatments other than listed that could have a better result for the chronic coughing??...Are steroids effective and what are the side effects.please? Are there any home remedies as far as air treatment, beathing masks etc..? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn when the pneumonia viral gets into blood, how to cure it ? for old people 78yo, wtih parkinson disease.
Avatar f tn Without coughing, the lungs would fill up with mucous and that is more dangerous as it blocks the airways and sets up the lungs for secondary infections. For most asthmatics night time is when it tends to flare up more. That is why he is coughing more at night. It will take a few days for the steroid to kick in. Just keep up with his treatments and keep an eye on his symptoms. Especially for sever shortness of breath.

Avatar f tn She has some test at cardiologist and then they were going to monitor her heart for 30 days at which time the heart pounding subsided for about 2 years She is now going through an aweful ordeal When the drs take her pulse ox it is at 98 or 100 percent and yet she feels as though she can't breath .
Avatar m tn My son was a 24 week micro-preemie. He was intubated for approximately 5 weeks before graduating to bi-pap. He ultimately was able to come home after 100 days and required no supplimental oxygen. After being home for approx. 3 months he developed an inspiratory stridor with some retraction. He has 2 hemanginomas so ENT did upper scope to R/O one in the throat. They saw nothing. He was presented to the ER when his breathsounds worsened and it appeared he was in distress.

Avatar n tn no ear infection, but such a runny nose and he has been coughing on and off, mostly one for about seven days. He has not slept through the night for five nights and his cough is a wrenching rasping hard one most of the time. We are treating him with Xopenex every 4-6 hours (per several docs), Claritin during the day and Benedryl during the night (to help with post nasal drip), steam, humidifier, the works.
