By the way, if you use pills, your MD (I doubt) will agree, because the drug is not concentrated in the eye, plus you have "systemic" side effects because the drug is running through your body (rather than staying mostly in the eye). Xalatan, and the others that are similar lower IOP more than other drug classes...you need to ask what your IOP is and see that it stays in the healthy range, since glaucoma damage can be permanent. l have been taking Xalatan for a year and there has'nt been any side effects except my eyes feeling a bit dry l have developed some floaters but my doctor says it most likley has nothing to do with the xalatan ,
but the past few weeks it has been starting to sting or feel a bit , sometimes l put in two drops at a time instead of one , could putting too much in cause this soreness, is there an eye drop such as a lubricant eye drop l could take that relieves the soreness.
Your glaucoma could worsen if you stop taking the medications for a year.
Azopt is a great medicine but sometimes expensive. Lumigan I really dislike because it causes red, inflammed, irritated eye, permanent dark circles around the eyelids and orbital fat atrophy with sunken in eyes and droopy lids way too often. Travatan-A is much better, longer acting, lowers IOP more and doesn't cause near the side effects of Lumigan.

I have retina detachments in both eyes after surgeries I had eye pressure problems but on last visit to doctor on wednesday my eye pressure were normal 14 (Right eye) and 9 (Left Eye) I am using using Cospt, Alphagan, Xalatan( Twice a day and Pilocarpine 2% six hourly.
About 8% of the population if placed on steroid eye drops or ointments have a increase of pressure often dramatic. The pressure generally goes away after the steroid is stopped within days to weeks, in few cases in several months and very very rarely does not go away at all.
Steroid "responders" are more common in patients with a family history of glaucoma.

one week after laser iridoplasty for plataeu iris ihave experienced blurred vision in my left eye eye . I am still on xalatan once a day. The blurred vision occured during the night for about 2 or 3hours. Dont usually have a problem with eye sight not shortsighted or longsighted. Rang consultant said it was unusual and cant have been because of the pressure rising as had laser treatment but they are fully booked and has made me an appointment for monday 4 days from now.
On the other hand, he was willing to wait 2-3 months to start eye drops if I wanted, and do another visual field/OCT first. I guess he knows that this early on 2-3 months isn't long enough to make a long-term difference, so perhaps he doesn't quite get/has forgotten after some number of years how scary this seems. (If I was 70, I wouldn't be so worried, since the progression is slow.) At 40, I need to last another good 30-40 years though...

So if people want to use the Lumigan drops instead of Latisse for whatever reason, lashes, etc and they don't have glaucoma, is it deemed safe to use? other than the known minor side effects that occur in some?
Hi, my doctor would like me to have SLT in one eye (has a test) to lower my IOP (Xalatan is not enough apparently)...
I've red a couple of studies on SLT and some pretend that SLT is coutner indicated for Juvenile glaucoma (it could raise IOP instead of lowering it)
I'm 31 years old...
Any thoughts ?
I was diagnosed with glaucoma four years ago and was immediately put on Xalatan once a day both eyes. Two years later was taken off Xalatan and put on Cosopt & Alphagan, twice a day, Lumigan once a day, both eyes. For the past two years my diopter went from -4.00 both eyes, to -9.50 left eye, -7.00 right eye, as of today, in steady progression. I can already tell I'm probably not seeing 20/40 presently and need stronger contacts.
Many generics are not nearly as good as the brand names. For instance brominidine is not nearly as good as the glaucoma drop Alphagan-P but there are many that work as good as brand names. latanoprost is one of them. There are over 20 companies that make latanoprost. Studys have shown that some are underfilled and some produce drops that are so large that the bottle will not last the expected 6 weeks.
Timolol is a beta blocker that is very inexpensive and works well for glaucoma BUT I use it last in my choice of the 4 times of glaucoma drops because of the potential for major side effects. It cannot be used in people with asthma or reactive airway disease, a history of slow heart rate (bradycardia) and can cause many problems like chronic cough, severe loss of energy, chronic nasal congestion (seems like sinus problem that won't go away), very cold extremeties, etc.
I have been on eye drops non-stop since the surgery in December and have noticed recently that one side of my face (the side of the eye being treated) is puffy and swollen in the cheek area. The other side is fine. The last two weeks I have been using cosopt and xalatan to treat high pressure. Could this be the reason. I had used atropine which was stopped two weeks ago and tobradex which was stopped last week and now I use prednisolone.
