Avatar n tn If I understand, your father recently had a stroke and the underlying cause is cardiovascular disease and resulted in a stroke. That occurs when a blood clot is dislodge in the vessel and with blood flow goes to the brain and blocks a segment of the brain to blood supply. The result can minor with very little impairment or serious causing a loss of mobility and speech.
Avatar n tn For a perspective, abnormal heart rhythms are diagnosed by noting the rate of the P waves and QRS complexes, whether expected P waves or QRS complexes are absent and alterations in the normal 1:1 relationship between the P wave and QRS complexes. The P wave are impulses that contract the upper chambers and the QRS complex are impulses for the ventricle to contract after filling (includes part of the P wave during filling stage). That would be the one to one relationship.

Avatar n tn I suppose you could count the stress of merely having been diagnosed with BC ... IF ... you consider stress as a risk factor in developing Cardiovascular Disease. Regards .....
Avatar f tn Your doctor would consider the side effects, drug-drug interaction, any co morbidities like diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Drugs to treat an already present attack include triptans, ergots and midrin that are a combination of isometheptene, acetaminophen, and dichloralphenazone. Hope this helps. Take care.
159619 tn?1707018272 When I first saw a cardiologist at an ER in 2005 for some chest pain I was experiencing, I weighed 348 pounds, had a BP of 140/85 and my cholesterol was slightly elevated at 219. I went through thallium stress tests and echos all three years, all normal. I started lifestyle changes in 2005 and started exercising daily and managed my diet. As of today, I am 260 pound so I have 70 more to go, but I have lost the weight slowly by exercising and watching what I put in my mouth.
3060668 tn?1340675902 Hi, A stress echocardiogram is used to diagnose coronary artery disease. Under stress/exercise if the heart muscle is getting adequate blood supply. This assesses the ejection fraction. The ejection fraction is a useful measure of left ventricular performance. The normal range is 63-77% for males and 55-75% for females. It reflects the pumping capacity of the heart. Low values can cause symptoms of lightheadedness due to inadequate pumping capacity of the heart. Hope diabetes has been ruled out.

329994 tn?1301663248 I went and read your journal and posted a comment and questions. Thank you for answering my posts. I would like to find out more information about this condition so I can approach my cardio and my pulmonary doctor. Do you know of any published articles I can take? Thanks for any help!
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and put on Flecainide 50mg 2x and Dilziatem 120mg 1x daily. The stress test I was told, was to check if I had arterial blockage causing my Afib. I have read on these forums that CAD is not usually associated with Afib. I am being treated by DO who works in a cardiology office. Is this normal practice? I am concerned about his diagnosis, and the meds he is treating me with. I had been scheduled to see him again, on the 25th.

Avatar m tn Today most of the cardiovascular disease does not have to happen as we have a wonder drug to safeguard our cardiovascular health. Nitric oxide could prevent nearly all kind of cardiovascular disease, but if we try to boost its levels in our body. In our project “How to boost the levels of Nitric oxide in our body” we have tried to find different but practical ways to increase levels of NO in our body and increase our chances of better health and longer life.
Avatar m tn It depends on the thickness and of course how fit you are. Someone who does weight training or regular cardiovascular exercises such as aerobics or regular running will form thicker heart muscle on the left side. If the patient is not particularly fit, then it could be down to some form of disease. I think it would be wise for them to follow up with an echo scan to see the thickness. If you are a fit person and have been physically active, then it's very likely nothing to worry about.
Avatar n tn It is indeed a complex process and several disease states from seborrheic dermatitis, cardiovascular disease, stroke to certain cases of cancers arise secondary to stress. Stress appears to be relevant to the medical community as medicine begins to evolve and molecular and genetic factors come into play.Stress leads to disease due to an underlying interplay of factors in the molecular level. This is something that we need to look into.
Avatar n tn ve met lots of patients with normal cholesterol and having more disease than me and I have hypercholesterolemia. From a teen (was 46 with first heart attack) I always had high blood pressure, but in those days Doctors just said "oh it's your chemical make up". If I was a teen now, I would be on medication because they know it would damage the arteries over years, causing foam cells. Can anyone please help me with this confusion which has bewildered me since my first heart attack.
Avatar n tn it is rare a dr will take interest in us, they do not understand the turmoil we live in and how we long to live among the normal and be healthy. So I am reaching out to find out what I should and should not do. The internet states this never gets better just worse and I will eventually die from it. Is this true, how bad is it, can I exercise (that's what started the chest pains) what are the do's and don'ts?
Avatar m tn Investigators looked at the relationship between saturated fat intake and coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Their controversial conclusion: “There is insufficient evidence from prospective epidemiologic studies to conclude that dietary saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of CHD, stroke, or CVD.
Avatar f tn While it is true that these extra heartbeats are generally considered benign in individuals without underlying heart disease, I feel it is time for your cardiovascular health to be reevaluated. The fact that these palpitations were accompanied by shortness of breath, chest discomfort and pre-syncope, suggests that you need to be evaluated for ischemic heart disease. I feel that it would be a prudent measure to make an appointment with your primary care physician.
