Avatar m tn But there were a few things I didn't like about it, one is the level of complication, too many routines to do. Perhaps I am misinformed, but when I started researching old fashioned body building their workouts seemed to be very simple. Meaning, one exercise (say the deadlift) would work out a whole section of the body, rather than doing a workout that just targets one muscle group. I've been looking into body weight exercises, gymnastic strength training etc.

Avatar n tn Good post. The old days' arnold routines of training x2 a day, every day are long gone. Most routines out there will leave you overtrained unless you are on a heavy cycle of steroids. I'm a relatively lean 200lb bodybuilder. I lift once a week, all you really need. But, I believe what has been (re)discovered here is the age old bodybuilding technique of super setting. Avatar f tn While you may also build muscle, it is minimal compared to strength training routines. Strength training exercises are performed to build muscle, but they also burn calories. Added muscle will shape and tone your body and may lead to a loss of inches before you see a weight loss reading on the scale. Both types of exercise help you to reach optimal health and aid in weight loss. Mix up the duration's, intensity and frequency of each based on your overall goals.

Avatar f tn I currently weigh 268 lbs and am very out of shape. When I weighed 170, I excercised daily and had a balance of strength training and cardiovascular activity. I know I have hard work ahead of me, and I want to make sure I'm using my time at the gym/pool well. I know everyone says to start out slowly, but I want to make sure I'm doing enough of the right kind of workout to really make a difference in my weight loss program.
Avatar m tn I recently changed my excercise program to daily morning walks of around 2 1/2 miles for cardio and evening routines of 30 minutes of toning and strength resisitences. For the past couple of weeks, my fasting number in morning after my cardio routine has been running between 90 to 100. Is this normal or should I be concerned? FYI my diabetes is considered managed and for the past three years my AiC number has been 5.4 and 5.3.
Avatar f tn are you doing the same old workouts all the time? Like, are Mondays always the same, Tuesdays, etc.? Mix it up. And, *gasp* even skip a day or two. That's right, I said SKIP A DAY!!! Remember, be very careful what you eat that day (calories in/calories burned still matter!). I hate to tell this in public, but I missed workouts for 2 weeks over Christmas when I went to FL. I gained 0.0 lbs, plus coming back and getting back into the routine jumped started my weight-loss again.
14991338 tn?1447197306 Very very rarely do they occur in my weight strength training but almost always with cardio routines. Maybe 2 or 3 times out of 10 I will not feel them. I am swaying towards NSVT or some other fibrillation process due to the sensation being a run of skipped beats for 5 maybe 6 seconds. My question is - IF it is NSVT, can it decide to go on and off when it likes? So like people who do have it, do they have it all the time with exercise or w.e is the trigger, or just sometimes?
Avatar f tn Eating every three to four hours prevents dips in blood sugar levels that can trigger hunger and overeating. Do full-body strength training workouts to develop lean muscle mass and increase metabolism. Perform exercises that recruit every large muscle group such as lat pulldowns, biceps curls, triceps press, overhead shoulder press, lunges and push-ups. Execute each exercise for three sets of 15 repetitions.
649848 tn?1534637300 Ok - I have a question. I see posts where some of you spend an hour or more daily on your exercise routine. I think that's great if you have that much time every day. I usually don't!! For example, this past week I had to work 10 hr days beginning at 5:00 am and ending at 3:30 pm. In order to get to work by 5:00 am, it was necessary for me to get up at 2:45 am, which meant that I had to go to bed no later than 6:30 pm in order to get enough sleep.

Avatar m tn Personally, have found that if you divide those calories into 3 meals and 3 snacks a day, it will keep your metabolism functioning and keep you feeling full. Be sure with those workouts that you are eating some carbohydrates before your workout, protein afterwards and drinking plenty of water. Your exercise mix is good, but you may want to change out the type of exercises - in other words, do not do the same routine day after day. Our bodies adapt and they begin to anticipate your activity.
Avatar m tn I exercise 6 days a week, walk about 3 miles a day, and then run about a mile as well, plus about 30 mins of strength training 3-4 days per week. I get 8 hours of sleep and am not especially stressed out or anything. Other than cut out the 2-3 splurge meals I have per week, I am not sure what else to do? Isn’t FOUR hours a little long after eating for blood sugar to go back down? Or could this all be due to the lower amount of carbs my body is used to getting through the week?
