Common Questions and Answers about Wisdom teeth surgery procedure

teeth

Avatar f tn Definitely see about having your wisdom teeth removed by an oral surgeon as opposed to a general dentist. Chances are with a general dentist, the most you would receive as far as sedation would be gas, although some dentists are now using what they call "sedation dentistry" where you take an oral medication about an hour before your appointment to help relax you.
Avatar m tn I want to know why is it necessary to remove wisdom teeth? What are positives except that removing wisdom teeth will not affect other teeth lining and may prevent chances of infection around wisdom teeth? What are negative sides? I am tired of this procedure or that procedure and going to here and there, and now this. I don’t want to complain but I am already struggling with poor general health, stress, anxiety and insomnia and my GP is no help.

Avatar n tn My daughter had her wisdom teeth extracted several months ago. Her swelling diminished cosiderably after her surgery but I don't believe that her cheeks are back to thir normal size. Is it unusual to have swelling remain 3 months after surgery? She had all 4 extracted which were all under the bone. She also is a small framed individual.
434196 tn?1206385870 No the only time I had IV sedation was when my wisdom teeth were pulled. I think the "twilight surgery" is much safer than IV and is almost identical from a patient perspective. I think it allows doctors that normally wouldn't have the facilities to support IV sedation to do a surgery in the same way. They basically handed my 4 valium and asked how I was doing. I asked for 2 more and than they started the procedure.
Avatar n tn I was 17 (19 years ago) when I had maxillofacial surgery to correct an open bite issue. My wisdom teeth were extracted at the same time and my jaws wired shut for 6 weeks until everything healed. I have been very happy with the results but in the last 4 years I have had 4 root canals in the upper front incisors and canines. Is there any documented correlation between upper jaw surgery and the rate of incidence of root canals in the affected jaw?
Avatar n tn It has been more than 2 months and I still feel awful? I am terrified to have the wisdom tooth surgery. Any chance my pains are related? I still have sensitivity in the root canal tooth, which my dentist told me was not possible. Ugh. Am I too old for surgery?
Avatar f tn Alright ladies I'm 22w+2 and I'm starting to cut my wisdom teeth can I have them removed while I'm pregnant???
Avatar n tn t do wisdom teeth extractions.
Avatar n tn I have a three year old son that I really need to be here for. I have had my wisdom teeth out so I have been put out, but does anyone know if that is the same? They say that my surgery will be laproscopic does that mean that it will be easier and I will be walking around in a few days? I have severe anxiety and I am scared.
1025061 tn?1252454030 Wisdom teeth can be painful while erupting through the gum, but unless they are impacted, there is no reason to have them removed. Your report shows your wisdom teeth are in an excellent position, which means they can erupt and cause you no problems. I have all of mine. I have never heard of itching with erupting wisdom teeth. Your wisdom teeth are not postioned in a way to affect your dental health, I would leave them alone.
Avatar f tn The only thing they can do it a routine check up and maybe clean your teeth. I need my wisdom teeth out as well but I gotta wait until Jan.
Avatar n tn I recently went to the dentist and was told I need to be put to sleep to have my wisdom and a few other teeth pulled, I'll be 7 weeks Friday and was wondering if I should go thru with the procedure or talk to my obgyn before doing anything.
Avatar n tn About two weeks ago I was referred to an oral surgeon for wisdom teeth extraction. All four teeth are impacted and need to be extracted, and it is quite painful. After they took the X-Rays, they told me what procedures I needed to have done. They told me I'd need to have the teeth extracted, and that I'd need a bone graft for each tooth that was removed, and that the bone graft was $350 a tooth.
Avatar f tn I just had my wisdom teeth removed on Thursday morning. I was put under for the procedure. After waking up i was having lots of cramps in my stomach. I was then anout 10 days late. I talked to the nurse at the dental clinic and she told me that it would have been bad for the baby if i was indeed prego because of all the anesthesia. I took a test yesterday and it came back positive. I took another one this morning it still positive but the cramps aren't going away.
Avatar f tn Getting my wisdom teeth out this Friday and I'm really scared. My lower right side is impacted and growing horizontal and causing my right cheek to be a bit swollen and my neck as well. I have slight jaw and tooth pain and war paint. Dentist prescribed antibiotics for 10 days and I started the corse yesterday and going to continue it after the surgery to prevent infection. I am very scared of this procedure although so many people have gotten it done.
Avatar n tn hello i have an abcess in my front teeth and have got to go for surgery in hospital to have a Apiectomy what does this entail and what do they do i am very worried has anyone had this and what can i expect
Avatar n tn My second question is related to pain medication given after surgery. I have had wisdom teeth removed, a bad tooth extracted and my gallbladder removed in the past. For each of these I was prescribed either hydrocodone (vicodin) and tylenol 3. I have terrible reactions to these meds.I feel sick to my stomach, very dizzy, and I usually end up vomiting or having dry heaves (not fun when you have abdominal stitches for a gallbladder extraction.
Avatar n tn What concerned me most was that I was told that my two bottom teeth will also require a bone graft I believe it was called, to ensure that the teeth next to the wisdom teeth do not move around as a result of the pocket that will be created (if i remember correctly). The cost of this procedure was roughly $1,500 per tooth, and the entire cost of the operation was over $4K.
4518471 tn?1355798857 So I had my wisdom teeth just over a week and I am still in pain not as much when I first got them taken out and this pass friday I called the nurse and she said to stop taking the strong pain killers "hydro" and have been really like feeling sick but did not have a cold or anything just felt bad.
1448936 tn?1363206346 Tomorrow I'm going to see an oral surgeon about my wisdom teeth. I've had one out but need the other 3 out as well. The first one was able to be pulled with just novocaine. I'm nervous that the other 3 may need to be cut out. Being put under is pretty much not an option for me due to my anxiety. I'd rather do one at a time than be put under. Can I tell the oral surgeon this if it turns out they think I need surgery? I would sooner keep them in and suffer than be put under.
