Will cytomel help me lose weight

Common Questions and Answers about Will cytomel help me lose weight

cytomel

Avatar n tn I am hypothyroid and post-menopausal. I take both Levoxyl (75 mcg) and Cytomel (15 mcg). The meds alone will not help you lose weight. They only 'level the playing field,' and allow you to lose weight, but your metabolism is compromised and loss will be slow. You only mention exercise. Experts agree that 95% of weight loss is what we put in our mouths. Without restricting calories, you won't be able to lose.
Avatar n tn I had a total thyroidectomy 6 years ago and had gained 40 llbs since then. A year ago I started 12.5 cytomel. I never felt better in my life! I was on 125 levothyroxine and 12.5 cytomel to clarify. My doctor said I would not lose weight due to the cytomel. I don't know if it was the cyt or just me feeling better with no more fatigue that made me lose weight. I dropped 25lbs. Two months ago found out I was pregnant and was taken off the cytomel and my levothyroxine was raised to 150.
Avatar f tn t matter how much i watch what i eat or exercise i can not lose weight WHY??? What am i doing wrong? Please help me lose the weight..Give me some ideas.
Avatar f tn NDT and Cytomel will work for some people. T4 meds work for some people. T4 and Cytomel will work for some. NDT only works for some. The bottom line is that it is not the type of med that matters most. The important thing is getting your biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4 up to a level that relieve symptoms. That can be accomplished with adequate doses of T4 meds, if your body adequately converts T4 to T3.
Avatar f tn I am weight training as part of my exercise routine. I used to take Creatine drops to supplement my energy and endurance. Now that I am on Cytomel, can I still do this? Finally, are there any safe fat burners and energy boosters that can be taken with Cytomel?
Avatar f tn I'd like to clarify something here, please. If I remember correctly, Luvlaughlin has Hashi's; she's not wanting to use cytomel JUST for weight loss. I believe her question is whether or not it does help with weight loss, most likely gained while hypo. Everyone is different, so whereas it might help some lose the weight they gained from being hypo, it won't help us all. Cytomel should only be taken if blood work and symptoms indicate that it's needed.
927140 tn?1244210051 Thanks group! I will be getting my lab numbers and posting them. He put me on the weight lose drug because I'm gaining weight at an alarming rate! I just gained over 5 pounds in two weeks. I will not start the weight lose pill for two weeks so I'm going to see if the combo of Cytomel and Synthroid will help with this. Thanks for the feedback. I don't go back to the doctor for a while.
822804 tn?1298226302 What are the ranges on your FT4 and TT3? Ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. If you can provide those, we can comment a lot more specifically. Why was the TT done?
Avatar f tn I have reduced my calorie intake to dangerous levels but I am still putting on weight. I am starting to lose my mind a little bit and need some help! How can I keep the weight gain at bay until the cytomel leaves my system? What can I do to keep the weight off when everything I know (diet and exercise) don't work? How long until I should start feeling normal again?
Avatar f tn Hi, Thanks for the informative response re the debate that I've had with "the battle of the endos"...lol... My TSH is 2.82 My T3 is 118 My T4 is 6.8 Also, estradiol was extremely low at 14, along with vitamin d at 17 (which I am now supplementing the d), but don't want hormone replacement therapy as my mom died at 51 with breast cancer and my sister died at 64 with stomach cancer (I'm 48).
Avatar f tn t lost any weight though but my sides have come in a little bit.. The doctor is saying that my levels are normal. I wish he could he tell me how to lose this weight or I will be forced to go back to a medical weight loss center just to lose 15 pds. Here are my results from 12/16/11: (I requested the Free T3 test also) TSH 0.48 (Result Value) Reference Range > or = 20 years 0.40 - 4.50 Pregnancy Ranges First Trimester 0.20 - 4.
Avatar f tn Just wanted to add, it did not help me lose weight. What I have found is any weight gained by this condition has to be lost with diet and exercise. What does happen with Armour is the eight gain stops when you get a midrange FT4 and high in range FT3 and you have more energy to exercise. The extra energy will let you be more active, which will result in weight loss. A rare few will lose just by switching to Armour, but its not the norm.
744962 tn?1270942038 who is a great doc for listening to how I feel and not just going on blood test results, would increase my T4 to try and help me lose weight. This would send me into overdrive (I would be nervous, tearful, shaky etc) but I would still gain weight. We noticed this a year ago and I started on a T3/T4 combination. I felt better within days. Better than I had felt in three years. And for the first time, I can slowly work on weight loss. My recommendation is that you go on how you feel.
Avatar m tn t been able to get rid of them -- because my levels have not gotten high enough and stabilized for any length of time. In my opinion, you will be able to lose the weight, once your levels get right for you, so don't completely stop trying to lose (eat healthy, exercise, etc), but focus mainly on not gaining any more. That's what I did, and I'm finding that I can lose some now, if I'm very careful about my eating/exercise.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed Cytomel, which I have not been able to tolerate due to heart palpitations. When I started taking the Cytomel I noticed things in me disappearing that I have struggled with my whole life and felt better than I knew possible. I even started losing weight without making a change to my diet, I have struggled to lose a lb even on phentermine. My 8 year old son even asked me how come I was being so nice all the time.
Avatar n tn Hi kimberlyn1234, I am on both Synthroid and Cytomel. I was just reduced to 75 Syn and remain at 25 Cytomel. My doctor explained it to me like this: Synthroid is a synthetic T4. Your thyroid works to turn this into T3. Cytomel is a synthetic T3, so it goes right to work without having to go through the "processing". I didn't start on Cytomel but it was added a few years after my diagnosis because my T3's were still low.
Avatar n tn I begged my endo at Johns Hopkins to put me on Cytomel and Effexor after reading a few articles on the web. I had been on and off of many anti-depressants for at least 10 years, all with no success. While the low might plateau, the depression symptoms were overbearing. I am pleased to say that within 2 weeks of my new Cytomel, Effexor, Synthroid cocktail I felt outstanding.
Avatar f tn There really is no other explanation for my weight gain. Looks like the doctor will lower my dosage of Levoxyl and keep me on Cytomel. I just have too much thyroid hormone in my body I guess? Synthroid made me feel really shaky, nervous, gave me dry mouth, etc. I felt fine on Levoxyl until I gained all this unexplainable weight and just recently have been feeling really bad, such as chest pains, shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn The effect of Cytomel takes a couple of weeks to set in. Cytomel can be given upto 100 mcg/day. So if you are on10 mcg/d and unable to lose weight it makes sense to increase to 25 mcg/d. Simultaneously Synthroid dose may need to be reduced slightly. Regarding any other laboratory tests besides thyroid profile at this point in time, I feel nothing else is necessary.
Avatar f tn There are a lot of us right there with you; I do agree that hypothyroidism is one of the worst issues to have when trying to lose weight. A lot of us find that when our thyroid levels get stabilized at a point that is right for *us*, not just "in range", we are able to lose the weight.
Avatar n tn Total T4 9.7. Total T3 0.88. Total T3 uptake 37%. I do not know if Cytomel will help or not, but I am willing to try it versus living with the symptoms forever and ever....If not, I guess it is a life of "happy" Synthroid and symptoms! I did post to the physician forum but I know they are probably extremely busy so I thought I would ask for opinions from actual people with hypo symptoms using these medications. Thanks!
