Why is my breast milk supply decreasing

Common Questions and Answers about Why is my breast milk supply decreasing

milk

Avatar f tn My son is 3 wks I'm currently breastfeeding, but i feel as if my milk supply is decreasing.. I use a nipple shield and he'll feed for 10 min. On one breast and get super fussy, once i take him off I'll notice that there isn't any milk in the shield. Which to my opinion he ran out of milk in that breast so he got fussy. I'll move him to the next and same thing.. When i pump he'll eat anywhere from 4-6 oz. That's if i can get that much out.
Avatar f tn t been pumping as much as I should specially cause sometimes my schedule is really demanding. My milk supply is decreasing and even though I supplement my baby with formula I want to still give him breast milk. After the milk supply has decreased can I or I mean how can I get it back up, and is it possible?
741877 tn?1265950200 this is also another reason why I thought my milk supply is dwindling... I did notice that after a nice warm shower my right breast is leaking milk.. I guess this is a good sign that there's still some milk there??
Avatar f tn Malt is great for increasing breast milk perhaps that's what it is. I drink a malt-based drink (Ovaltine) which I love (regardless of that fact) but also fenchel and anise teas are very good. Not only do they increase your supply (drink 3-4 cups a day) but help when the baby has gas.
Avatar f tn I breast fed my daughter and I always had extra to put in the fridge. I just had to pump at the time she usually had to feed and I kept producing alot of milk.
Avatar f tn t the right forum but I feel more comfortable asking questions here...I had my daughter on the 9th and at first I had a really good milk supply where my breast would become engorged every two hours if I didn't pump or feed regularly....and I was pumping 2/3 ounces from each breast every time.....now I can hardly get an half an ounce :(....I try to have my daughter on my breast every two hours but it seems like she gets so irritated because nothing is coming out....
Avatar n tn m worried about breastfeeding feeding. When should my milk come in? I do not want to put my baby on formula, what if my milk does not come in before delivery? How does this work?
Avatar f tn Thank you!
Avatar f tn Is it OK to feed my daughter breast milk and formula? I am planning on breastfeeding and pumping but just in case something comes up and my husband has to feed her is formula ok or will that upset her stomach?
Avatar f tn I pumped for the next 8 months of her life so she had a full year of breast milk. It droveme nuts, my supply suffered, but I did it so yes, it is doable.
1209036 tn?1299178657 Well, I could only nurse Fynn for about 1 eek because i did not realize just how painful it is!!! SO I went ou and bought a pump, but I am losing my supply. I dont know how often I should be pumping. We introduced formula because it seems much more satisfying for him. I am drinking lots but I still only pump like 1 ounce out of my left boob and almost nothing out of my right!! I really dont wanna lose my supply and need to know how I can increase it.
676912 tn?1332812551 Will my supply adjust as Aubryana gets older and needs more? She's been nursing for at least an hour at night the last couple nights, spitting up more and more gassy than normal so I bought her some gas drops today and I'm gonna see how the weekend goes and call the dr to see if it's reflux if she's not doing better with it Monday...
796867 tn?1255206807 Wow congrats momma. Glad to hear everything worked out well for you- so fast. I'm jealous about your milk supply. Twns have been here a week today and my milk is still very low. Congrats!!
Avatar f tn Agreed. I haven't taken anything and breastfed for 14 months. I never leaked or anything. What most women don't get is when your milk comes in its all supply and demand and when that doesn't work then take stuff.
4194487 tn?1370046144 For your milk supply to run dry? My son is 3 wks old and it feels like as the days go by its harder to satisfy his tummy, my boobs never feel 'full' and i cant pump that much milk..
Avatar f tn Then she will continue to suck and get breast milk. Pumping helps to increase milk supply and you could pump and feed while you transition.
Avatar f tn Def dont mix up formula and breast milk made my daughter highly constipated. There is nipple cream at walmart you can get and also try taking a hot shower (breasts facing the faucet) and it will help let the milk come down and yeah you can pump that will help too if you have milk built up that baby isnt getting out.
7656727 tn?1404157447 So I finally got a pump today to get all my milk out and now it looks like I wont be making as much milk. Is there anything I can take to increase my milk supply?? Any recommendations would be highly appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I've heard that breastfeeding regularly works better than the pump to improve supply. It's still early, keep trying. Your milk supply should kick in soon. Some women also take a supplement called milky which supposedly helps.
3588173 tn?1357317184 My boobies are shy with my pump. Lol. Aidyn is getting enough because he is having a good amount of wet/dirty diapers and I can hear him gulping. Also, your supply will probably increase when you get him home. Mine increased a good amount once I got him home and could put him to breast. If I were you I would pump once or twice at night an otherwise get some rest. I know I sleep in one to two hour shifts before I'm putting him back to the breast.
7249185 tn?1399663162 Common misconception. Milk is purely supply and demand. That's why it doesn't come in until after baby is born because it is the birthing hormones that send the signal to begin milk production. Prior to birth, breast changes occur that are preparing the breasts/body to produce but not actually producing (breast growth/tenderness/darker areolas/erect nipples etc).
1454858 tn?1306784378 I agree it shouldn't hurt if the baby has a proper latch. it can be a bit uncomfortable when your breasts are full and the baby first begins to suck, but as soon as milk begins to let down the discomfort should ease. I honestly believe that smaller breasts are an advantage while breastfeeding. I have (now)36EE's and while BFing I had FF's...so trying to maneuver the nipple was difficult and it was almost easy to move baby around to fit the nipple instead of vice versa...
2121625 tn?1350484749 Idk if its just a growth spurt or my milk supply but there last 2 or 3 days I feel like im not enough for him. My breasta barely ever feel engorged but hr only eats maybe 10 or 15 min max!!! He still eats about every 3 hrs like clock work... idk if its just me being paranoid or what but im so worried he not getting enough. Any suggestions??
Avatar n tn Your body is probably adjusting to the amount of milk your baby needs. Mine never felt hard even in the beginning. But if you want to try and up your supply make some lactation cookies.. Just Google a recipe for them. I know sounds silly but they help with milk supply. Also drinking milk helps and lots of water!!
