Plaques frequently occur on the skin of the elbows and knees, but can affect any area including the scalp and genitals. on the scalp it can lead to hair loss. Medicated creams and ointments applied directly to psoriatic plaques can help reduce inflammation, remove built-up scale, reduce skin turn over, and clear affected skin of plaques.

The lesions of lichen sclerosus may be white and patchy.Other lichenoid skin disease may present with violaceous or reddish spots, bumps or elevated plaques. A psoriatic lesion may present with white plaques that may easily scale and bleed. It is best to know your diagnosis .Ask your primary physician about this.
Avatar n tn Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema. Lichen sclerosis appears as white, dry plaques on the glans, foreskin or shaft of the penis.Balanitis xerotica is a severe form of lichen sclerosis.Psoraisis can also cause dry ,itchy skin rashes. In my opinion a clinical examination by a dermatologist will help in confirming a diagnosis as treatment depends on the same.Pls get it done. Hope it helps.
Avatar m tn Although we can get oral thrush (fungal infection in the mouth), this would not present itself with white plaques on the tonsils. Ask your doctor to arrange for you to have a swab taken from the mouth and throat so that it can be sent to the laboratory for analysis. Strep throat is a bacterial infection and antibiotics can kill off the bacteria that causes this.
Avatar m tn It is a chronic disease of the penis which presents as white, or purple-white patches or plaques. Diagnosis is by skin biopsy and treatment consists of topical and intralesional steroids, tacrolimus and CO2 laser. Severe cases may require surgical intervention. The other possibility is of lichen planus which is a chronic immunological disease presenting with similar symptoms.

Avatar n tn 7 years ago after sexaul contact I imediately developed these white plaques below and beside the eye of my penis and also an accompaying slight brownish colour change around the top of the eye and a little red on the rest of it. My doctor believes it is fungal balanitis.I have used a number of drugs including Fluconazole, Sporanax and Terbifine all to no availe. All tests for all STD's have returned negative. The plaques appear to be under the epidermis.
Avatar n tn I agree with your doctor that you may benefit from further evaluation and direct examination by a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and to rule out malignancy. There are many skin lesions that can be found in the pelvic area. One differential for white plaques is lichen sclerosis appearing on the glans, foreskin or shaft of the penis. It usually has no symptoms, although burning and irritation have been reported. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I had an mri done and they said i had several nonspecific white matter foci predominantly in the subcortical white matter, although this is not typical of the demyelinating plaques due to ms, it is somewhat prominent due to patients agewhat could this mean? I have chronic fatigue irritable bowel syndrome, mood swings, depression, muscle weakness, chronic dry eye,and also vertigo this year which I have never had in my entire life.
Avatar n tn Another differential is lichen sclerosis which appears as white plaques on the glans, foreskin or shaft of the penis. It usually has no symptoms, although burning and irritation have been reported. This condition is not infectious in nature. Try to avoid rubbing to prevent secondary infection. If it persists, have this evaluated further by your doctor for proper management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I noticed yesterday that some very very small part of my nipple skin (upper surface) tend to fall or peel off. I have been using moisturizing oil which might had made it easy to peel. The nature of my nipple skin is not dry. I have a wart like or plaque on it's tip/head only sometimes when I shower and becomes erect it becomes very white and later when back to normal it becomes pink.
Avatar n tn Small lump, with a brown spot at the base. Underneath is a large red patch with some indents, and some small white lumps. Also the entire bottom area of the top part of the penis (I can't think of the right name, so I will risk offended a couple people and call it the mushroom) is all red. It feels like a rash or something, does anyone have any ideas to what it could be?

Avatar n tn Hello, i got a white circular skin rash in my groin area. I think it might be ringworm but there is no outer ring. It's no bigger then the size of a quarter. I've had it for about two months now, any help would be appreciated. I lost a lot of weight so that area used shaff a lot. It used to be itchy but i've been applying various assortments of creams and it seems to have gotten smaller but it doesn't look like it's going anywhere anytime soon.
1146756 tn?1261512333 Only half of the circumference is red, the rest is just a darker tone of my skin. Its assymetrical and has no clear shape. I also believe its growing, but that could just be my paranoia. It started off as really red and bigger than what it is now and 2 days ago the skin on the red parts started to peel off. Now the redness is a lot more dull, but it's darker than my skin. The red part is getting raw and lustrous which worries me.
Avatar m tn My current neuro saw small white matter sub cortical lesions on an MRI from a couple years ago. I am 26, is this normal? And how does he rule out MS if there are lesions? Can lesions heal? Or become invisible on other mri's?
Avatar m tn It protrudes out the side of my thumb and has a small white ring around it presumably because there is little blood flow or skin pigmentation. Inside the white ring is something of a circle with the very, very small black dots inside of it, and it hurts when pressure is applied. Below are two pictures of it from different angles, but the camera quality isn't spectacular. If anyone has any idea of what it is or how it can be treated, it would be greatly appreciated. http://s927.
Avatar f tn Multiple focal hypersensities on flair and T2-weighted images in the frontal cortex and subcortical white matter bilaterally that may represent demyelinating plaques ,viral process or unidentified bright objects.... MRI machine is 3.OT/1.
Avatar f tn Thre are multiple causes for white matter hyperintensities or so-called plaques in the brain. Most often, in general, these are due to what is called "chronic small vessel disease", literally meaning diseased small vessels that supply blood flow to the brain. This is not an uncommon process in the brain and increases with age, and would be distinctly unlikely in a 26 year old Other causes of plaques in the brain can be migraine.
Avatar n tn The impression of the MRI said there are multiple areas of abnormal signal intensity in the cerebral white matter. A demyelination process would be a strong consideraton. Nonspecific nonacute microvascular changes with a vasculitis would also be in the differential diagnosis. Can you please explain what this means? My dr. is sending me to a neurologist, but I am not sure how long it will take to get into one and I would like some more information on it.
