446474 tn?1446351282 The agency singled out atorvastatin (Lipitor), rosuvastatin (Crestor), and simvastatin (Zocor) for the new warnings and restated a warning about mixing lovastatin (Mevacor) with HIV and HCV drugs. Today's FDA safety communication follows label changes announced Tuesday that added cautions about new onset diabetes and transient memory problems for users of any of the cholesterol-lowering drugs in the statin class.
Avatar f tn My only option now seems to be either to forego or to pay for Crestor and the other drug, which they don't even carry because it's so expensive, by credit card. At this point I feel like Lipitor is like a sugar pill for me - even like a knee-jerk reaction by doctors to cholesterol, if you will.
907968 tn?1292625804 Crestor is the most powerful statin to date, much stronger than Lipitor which is very strong. The starting dosage recommended for severe artery disease with crestor is 10mg, which lowers c-ldl by a whopping 46-52%. This is a lot, and most people don't need this much of a reduction, certainly that much of the powerful drug. You can get 5mg, but this is the lowest. It has been shown that 2.5mg lowers c-ldl by 40% and 1mg by 34%.
622511 tn?1373575103 BUt out of curiousity what is your take on PROZAC 10 mg daily and lastly Celexa for anxiety, so I can reduce my dependence on Klonopin or Ativan, which I have to take 3x a day with NO SSRI/SNRI in the mix?? That is ALL I am asking. Do you have any advice as an RN, with the PROZAC and Celexa. Lexapro didn't do any good for me either and I know that is a close relative of Celexa, so maybe the Celexa would be NO good despite it's LOW side effect profile, since lexapro didn'tr work?.
620048 tn?1358021835 We all just have to listen to our own bodies and intuition. Medical research is famous - or is that infamous - for changing recommendations after years of swearing by their previous one. I might think that's evidence of progress if they didn't do it so regularly and then also revert back to old recommendations from time to time. One of my problems with statins is that they lower the cholesterol my own liver makes.
Avatar n tn Being on a statin such as lipitor or zocor or crestor provides benefits beyond lipid lowering in coronary artery disease and stroke. 4. You must be on ASA, beta blockers and statins. 5. Control your blood pressure as best as possible. The lower the better as long as your don't feel dizzy or lightheaded. Typical goal is less than 120/8. But again, the lower the better, especially if you have protein in your urine. 6.
685623 tn?1283485207 g. Lipitor, Zocor, Crestor) These popular medications, often called “statins,” are commonly used in the United States. While pets do not typically get high cholesterol, they may still get into the pill bottle. Thankfully, most “statin” ingestions only cause mild vomiting or diarrhea. Serious side effects from these drugs come with long-term use, not one-time ingestions.
Avatar f tn First of all, there is no evidence that statins are a common or significant cause of cognitive decline or memory loss. This is supported by large, randomized clinical trials, including the Heart Protection Study (HPS) and the Prospective Study of Pravastatin in the Elderly at Risk (PROSPER). The HPS was a large statin trial and included 20,536 participants who were followed over a 5-year period.
Avatar n tn I took Crestor for three months. I got wicked PVC's which disappeared two days after stopping the drug. So I decided to do a study. I went back on Crestor and within 3 days the PVC's returned, only to disappear a day after stopping it again. My brother was on Lipitor for 5 years with numbers so low it should have reversed any plaque. He died last year at 47 with 100% blockage of two arteries and 75% blockage of the others. Like I said, buyer beware!

649848 tn?1484935765 The patents on Lipitor, Zocor and other statins have expired, and they are widely available in generic versions for as little as a dime a day. One that is still under patent protection is AstraZeneca's Crestor, which had sales of $8.3 billion in 2012. Despite a small increased risk of muscle problems and accelerating diabetes in patients already at risk for it, statins are "remarkably safe drugs" whose benefits outweigh their risks, said Dr.
Avatar n tn Exercise is key, and I too have a hard time exercising because for every 30 min walk, it takes me 2 days to recover since I have osteoarthritis of the knees and feet and the back pain I get is intolerable. I don't have diabetes or smoke or drink, but I have renal hypertension, so if I take an aleve, it elevates the bp.
Avatar f tn I went on a vegan diet but my cholesterol went back up so back on crestor. I've considered asking my doctor about other drugs like zocor or Lipitor also but right now I feel tons better.
Avatar n tn If your doctor will put you on a statin don't worry. I'm on 20mg Zocor for the last 3 1/2 yrs or maybe even 4 yrs. I don't remember exactly and I have absolutely no side effects.
Avatar n tn The one other thing I can think of since you mentioned you have high cholesterol is are you on statins? The statin drugs, like lipitor, zocor, crestor can all have side effects of muscle and joint pain. I had to go off of them for that reason, then I tried Niacin and that was terrible also. I am 52 and the doctors harp on me about my cholesterol (I also have high BP). I suppose I will have to try another one soon. Even your blood pressure drugs might be a problem.
Avatar f tn there are many many causes of tremors, but a visible tremor that continues during sleeping is distinctly uncommon. One of the most common causes of tremor is essential tremor, which is tremor with no clear cause. The tremor mainly occurs on action, if you were holding something or writing or moving your arms (or less commonly your legs). This does not occur during sleep and while it can be constant is usually again not prominent at complete rest.
Avatar n tn Perhaps your doctor might suggest another statin and you might tolerate another better than Crestor. If you do try alternative remedys, please test your cholesterol levels after six weeks to see if you are getting any benefit.
Avatar n tn If I was in your husbands shoes, I would continue to exercise as before, giving his heart more reason to keep opening collaterals. His heart is not enlarged which is also a good sign he's developed collaterals. I would ask for a nuclear scan to backup the decision of a bypass. If the nuclear scan looks good, I would decline the bypass, definitely.
Avatar m tn Chris, I cannot tolerate Lipitor or Zocor but I do tolerate Crestor 5mg. well and this has done the job brining my lipids down well. Please talk this all over with your CC doctor first. They are the experts and follow up with your Locals. Again, I am glad to see you post. God Bless.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could mean rhabdomyelosis, which is very serious. Have you tried lowering your cholesterol by natural means?
Avatar f tn Did your report say anything about soft tissue attenuation, which is the shadow on the image due to soft tissue like breasts? Also, blockages in the carotid arteries are due to the same process that causes blockages in the arteries of your heart. If his disease started before he was 55, this is a risk factor for you. I would certainly not volunteer for a cath, but if my doctor or cardiologist recommended one I would gladly do it.
335728 tn?1331418012 My latest blood panels show my total cholesterol is up to 216, which is above the recommended no more than 200 level. My LDL is in normal range and so are my triglycerides. My HDL's could be a bit higher, but overall they are not so bad. (tip - if these get you confused think of H = healthy and L= lousy!) My cardio wanted me to go back on lipitor and see if it would again drop my cholesterol, so I reluctantly agreed to try it again.
1806721 tn?1510192923 My questipn, however, is about whether statin drugs will raise blood sugar, causing pre-diabetes or diabetes? My paternal grandma has type 1 and my maternal uncle has type 2 diabetes. In the past 6 months, besides rapid weight loss, I also experienced fatigue, weakness, cold feet, dizziness, sudden drop of blood pressure, increased thirst and trips to restroom, low grade fever on and off with left side abdominal pain.
Avatar n tn In the doctor's response to my question, he does not agree or refute the theory that the use of Statins causes Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure. He only states " The leading statin researchers in the country are here at CCF. There opinion is we simply don't know if CoQ10 helps or not". What exactly does he mean by "help or not". Help with what? Is he acknowledging that Statin use does cause CoQ10 deficiency and eventually Cardiomyopathy?
Avatar f tn Aspirin consider plavix Statin like lipator, zocor, crestor, etc. blood pressure control (ACE inhibitor, beta blocker) diet, exercise Good luck and thanks for posting.

Avatar m tn Thank you for your comment, My bp, goes up and down as everyone elses. I have had two echograph's, both clear, i also have another one booked, did i stress test on a treadmill for 14 minutes, our hospital's don't allow you to jog and i couldn't walk any faster......that was clear, I'm 44. My GP doesn't believe that its the meds. As for the liptor, i did a huge search for days and to be honest, the good it supposedly does, i'm not sure it ways that well against the bad it does. My opinion.
Avatar n tn It is inexpensive and can either lower your cholesterol, raise your HDL (which is good), or have no benefit. It is worth a try. Statin drugs are often very effective, but a rare few do experience dangerous side effects and cannot take statins. I am sure you will work all this out with your cardio. These folks really do know what they are doing and have confidence in their recommendations.
Avatar n tn aspirin statin (lipator, zocor, crestor, etc) beta blocker ace inhibitor I notice you are not a statin -- do you know why? If you had muscle aches, we usually try another statin. If that still doesn't work, we will at least use Zetia unless your LDL is already rock bottom. Even if your LDL is less than 100, we still use statin medications in everyone with out an absolute contraindication. Make sure you have very tight control of your diabetes.
