symbicort

5037123 tn?1362663006 Hello LAC936, I have asthma and I have had asthma for more than 10 years atleast. My doctor has prescribed Pulmicort which I take 2 times a day. You have to rinse your mouth after you take Pulmicort. I also take something called Bricanol which is also an inhaler which my doctor told me to use as needed. I've seen commercials for Advair. The commercials state that not everybody is a candidate for Advair. One idea is to google - possible side effects of Advair.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, it typically suggests allergic rhinitis with bronchial asthma which is exaggerated or precipitated during cold season or timing. The triggering factors like dust, fog, pollens etc. can cause the precipitation of these symptoms. You need to identify these precipitating factors.
Avatar f tn i got put on pulmicort and foradil that did wonders for me and last month i got put on symbicort which is a combo of the pulmicort and foradil. Maybe symbicort would not cause you these symptoms?
Avatar n tn it seems like advair is making my asthma worse. i started taking advair like 7 month ago and it seemed like for the first few months it was working but i had to become dependant on it everyday or else i would start weezing nonstop. after that my weezing was worst than ever and i started noticing that after i used advair my weezing was much worse. i saw this thread yesterday and now for a day and a half i havent used it and i feel alot better.
Avatar n tn COPD is the umbrella term that includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The symbicort is good for reducing the inflammation (therefore narrows the breathing tubes) in the lung pathways. It should help your bronchitis.
746512 tn?1388807580 Might look into other long-acting beta agonists. Serevent is the LABA that is in Advair (Formoterol is available as Foradil. Salmeterol is the LABA in Advair). It's basically Flovent and Serevent in one Discus or inhaler. Symbicort is another combination steroid/LABA (Pulmicort + Formoterol). I don't know if any combination of those options would be better from a price perspective. Haven't heard of muscle cramps or menstrual effects with Pulmicort.
959034 tn?1253671476 Hi, I'm almost in the same boat as you, if my need for steroid goes any higher. But how many puffs/day of symbicort are you taking? I'm allowed to take up to 8/day of symbicort 200 on a regular basis. That is the beauty of this one. Unfortunately Symbicort doesn't come in a stronger dose,as I was informed by my specialist. The only other one that is stronger is Advair 500...but you can't up the number of puffs on that one like you can with Symbicort, so it too is self limiting.
Avatar n tn Another approach might be to avoid these two combination drugs, Advair and Symbicort, and substitute individual inhalert for each of the two drugs (the inhaled steroid and the beta-agonist). You could then reduce the dose of the beta agonist but, unfortunately that could not be done with a metered dose inhaler; would require the use of a nebulizer. You should also discuss this with your doctor. I mentioned individual sensitivity to the beta-agonist class of drugs.
Avatar f tn I got off Advair because of very serious side effects which actually made my breathing worse. Symbicort is probably just as bad. They are steroids that throw your adrenals out of whack. Because of Advair I suffered serious adrenal fatigue which I am being treated for. Stick to natural whenever you can. However I still must use Duoneb (an albuterol mix) in a nebulizer and Benadryl when needed.
Avatar n tn Having been on Advair for one year, I now have "frogs" in throat which causes me - a singer - to lose my voice when singing low notes. The Advair was discontinued and I am now on Symbicort which, I am afraid, is causing the same problem. Is there a simple "home remedy" for this problem? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I was using the diskus, but I always had thrush. My nurse practitioner changed me to the newer Advair which is in the more typical inhaler form. The thrush has only been back once! Fall is always hard for me, and right on schedule I am congested and wheezy!
Avatar m tn You might need to take different brands to get better affects. Symbicort is similar to advair and works a lot better for me than advair. You may also need a higher dose if it isn't helping.
Avatar f tn Advair Discus is a dry powder medication. It has large particles of powder that land on the vocal cords and irritate them. While inhaled steroids can cause this problem on there own, I have found the the dry powder medications are much worse for this. As a fellow singer, I recommend that you try the HFA version of Advair or Symbicort. Symbicort tends to be a little cheaper. It works great for most people, but I didn't metabolize it well at all and nose dived on it.
Avatar m tn So while they do not have the same medications, the medication groups are the same. So id Advair was helping you, Symbicort should also help you. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar n tn (When someone decides to wear certain perfumes or colognes). I am taking grape seed extract which contains OPCs which are very good for controlling asthma. Just thought somebody would like to know...
Avatar f tn Weekends seen to be fine after a little time away. Is this Asthma or am I alergice to my workplace? Should I test the air quality?
1425157 tn?1311651679 I would guess that it is the medication. I was fine on Advair, but had horrible reactions to Symbicort. After the first week the reactions stopped. Take care and feel better. It would be wise for you to read as much about asthma as you can. An informed patient is an empowered patient. your doctor relies on you to be able to communicate well about your symptoms and how your medications are working. I have had to bring ideas to the table many times.
757137 tn?1347196453 It is now about two weeks that I am not taking Advair. No withdrawal symptoms. Also I looked up mortality rates with and without Advair. They are just about the same. Another note. By taking Advair I developed adrenal fatigue which was so serious at times that I could not walk. I was treated for this with supplements by a physician who also practices alternative medicine. I have not had an episode in some time and am hoping that, without Advair, this problem is gone for good.
Avatar f tn There is another new medication called symbicort, that is what I use and I LOVE it. It takes care of all of my chronic asthma conditions and I use an emergency inhaler for when I have a trigger that causes an attack. Check your side effects. I know for a fact that Singulair can cause ear ache and chest infection as well as other annoying side effects because I have had them, I got off of the medication because I didn't see improvement, my friend stayed on it and loves what it does for her.
1987536 tn?1337916244 He actually switched me from advair to symbicort, and from albuterol to xopenex. 24 weeks now and my little girl is doing just fine. They do need us to give them oxygen, so take your meds if you need to.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I do have low cortisol. the thing is my FEV1 is stuck at 73 for over a year on symbicort/singulair and I thought that 80% at least is the goal do I have COPD or asthma? isn't there a metacholine test or should I get a bronchoscopy?
Avatar f tn They are both very helpful for my symptoms however you think advair is expensive????? All of the breathing medications I use are out of sight. It is really sad when a person can't breath and have to pay so much just for air huh?
Avatar m tn Some things you may want to try at that point are different medications specifically Dulera or Symbicort instead of the Advair and adding allergy medications and nasal sprays. Allergy testing and shots may be needed as well. Finding the cause of the cough is essential to bringing it under control. Please don't hesitate to ask additional questions. I am glad to help in anyway I can. I know it is a rough road. God bless.
335728 tn?1331414412 How the heck was I to know that this drug can cause LEG CRAMPS!!! She said that I have COPD and that this Advair is what is used to control COPD! When I was finally referred to the Lung Specialist 7 MONTHS LATER and the Lung Specialist diagnosed me with Asthma, not COPD, he immediately took me off of the Advair and put me on Spireva and Symbicort and Ventolin (as required). Of course when I went to the lung dr.
