Avatar f tn My husband is 300+ and when he had to have an MRI the doctor called with his size just to check and be sure he would fit. You might just want to give the MRI center a call and see if your size would be an issue. it would be better to know before the test if possible.
Avatar n tn Moreover, the contrast allows the doctors to observe functional abnormalities that are not visible on a regular scan like how well blood flowing through your vessels. Gadolinium is used as the contrast, and you must intimate the doctor or technician about any previous allergies to the contrast or previously compromised renal function. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn If you do get an MRI make sure you have it done with and without contrast, if not you just wasted a lot of time and money.... and DO NOT just go with what your doctor says. I have seen countless times when docs ASSUME that contrast will be used because it is the STANDARD practice when searching for an acoustic nueroma. Trouble is, the folks running the MRI machine do not know that.
Avatar n tn An MRI does not give off any radiation as it takes pictures from aligning magnets. It does take about 45 minutes for an abdominal MRI, whereas a CT scan is about 5-10 minutes... It sounds like wherever you went, they did it correctly!
Avatar m tn ve decided I need an MRI to rule out anything serious, but my GP can only refer a CT scan. I had enough radiation from the last one. I have no insurance, so I would like to go directly to the most affordable doctor that would be willing to refer me. If a neuro-opthamologist could do it, that would probably be the best route, as they can check for papilledema beforehand. Also, if this is not an appropriate forum, please feel free to move this.
Avatar f tn Hi, last year I had an MRI scan. I was having it as the Dr was looking to see if I had an AVM on the brain, I get a lot of headaches and have an AVM on my right forearm. When I went to see the Dr he told me my results, he said there is a malformation there but it isnt an AVM. He then pointed to the temporal lobes and said they are low. I should of asked him what that meant, but I never ask questions when Im there, I just say to myself I should of asked this and I should of asked that.
Avatar n tn When having a Hida scan, Do you lay in a machine such as the one of an MRI or what?
Avatar f tn I have recently had an MRI scan and the report has indicated that I have a L5/S1 circumferential disc bulge whih displaces the exiting L5 nerve roots bilaterally.. On the left this effaces the perineural fate and contacts the L5 nerve root. A neurosurgeon has apparently reviewed my scan and said there is no evidence of this disc bulge without even seeing me and suggested tertherd cord syndrome should be investigated..
Avatar n tn I understand these should be avoided while pregnant, but what if they are medically necessary? Has anyone gotten an MRI or Cat Scan while pregnant? What was the outcome, did it have an affect on your baby? Was it worth it? I have been experiencing agonizing pain in my left shoulder, neck, and arm, that sometimes radiates to my chest, making it hard to breathe. I am having a really hard time sleeping, and even functioning, and my quality of life has gone down because of it.
Avatar n tn An MRI with gadolinium is advised to futher assess the findings in the pineal gland and occipital horns of the lateral ventriclesand to exclude solid mass. Again thanks and if you could help with the added information.
Avatar m tn m becoming a little stressed out about the possibility of having a neck/brain aneurysm. Could a MRI or CT scan w/o contrast at least rules out an aneurysm that is large enough to rupture?
487969 tn?1249313291 Awww shucks, thanks for the compliment mommy2two2008. :) I used to think I couldn't get copies of medical records because that would lead to patients like me trying to diagnose themselves...but I'm at the point where I just say "please hand them over," and if that doesn't work, I say "hand them over." lol I have a right to my records, darnit! AR-10--yes, you can run them on your computer!
Avatar n tn Is this true? Is an MRI of the brain good enough, or do I need an MRI of the skull? also, would an MRI of the cervical spine show if the brain goes into the cerbellum?
Avatar n tn I have had an ECG stress test and a Myoview scan, both of which have shown an abnormal result. I now have to decide whether to have an angiogram but am worried about the risks involved. My cardiologist doesn't seem to think that any problems I have are too severe and that in fact there's a chance that both tests could be giving false positive results. I wondered whether cardiac MRI or cardiac computed tomography are a viable alternative to an angiogram ? Any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn The hardware is normally made from either stainless steel or more likely titanium. Nither is a "ferrious" metal. Only Ferrious metal reacts to magnetic fields. No way an MRI Pulls on hardware that is used in your body. If it did, it would rust!!!!....LOL. It's amazing what our head will do to us when we are in that tube.....................
Avatar f tn Hi fellow Ozzie, welcome to our little MS community, Please keep in mind that we are lay people, not professionally trained in reading MRI's, opinions are generally from personal experience, acquired knowledge and interest, my two cents......
Avatar f tn If pain goes away, then it is the cuff. If not, then it is the nerve. Now he wants me to go for an MRI of my neck because the bone scan showed very bad arthritis, but he wants to make sure that is what it is and to rule all else out. Good news is he said there is no cancer anywhere. So I told him I am so tired and stressed from father passing and sister getting brain surgery in a few weeks, and the contstant pain and mentioned that I could soooooo used a week off work.
Avatar n tn They can however, detect mental illness such as scitzophreneia which i know because i was diagnosed through an MRI. The only mental illness an MRI scan able detect is an actually different brain connections than that of a normal brain. Ive had one done for mental illess! Can you describe some of your symptoms, what you feel and how often yolou feel it? I know your question is based on needing to know where to get a private MRI scan, which i am unsure of!!
Avatar n tn Is there a difference between an MRI on the head and MRI on the brain only?? Whats a cranial MRI??? Is it the same as a brain MRI??
763362 tn?1236624790 I have been referred to Physio and had an initial assesment where the consultant said that it looks like Degenerative Disc Disease, he said the only way to determine this better is by having an MRI scan, on going back to my G.P.
