Common Questions and Answers about When does lipitor go off patent

lipitor

Avatar n tn I was on lipitor was many years but no doctor ever checked my blood. Last year I went off of this med because when I was hospitalized for something else they discovered that my liver enzymes were high. I'm still off lipitor and my enzymes flutuate from high normal to high. I'm wondering if the lipitor did damage to my liver. Also, I have some neurological issues which includes my muscles. Am wondering if the lipitor caused this. My total cholesteral is 226 and my LDL is 79.
Avatar m tn I've never heard of a statin causing anxiety, which doesn't mean it can't, but nowhere in any of my books on pharmacology does it link statin use with anxiety. Perhaps you have a very high sensitivity to something in them that is causing this reaction. What does your doctor say? I know he said he'd never heard of it, but did he research the other ingrediants in it as opposed to those in Lipitor? My next advice would be to talk with a pharmacist.
Avatar m tn I am little scared if I stop taking Lipitor, does it will occur any heart attack or blockage in arteriy or any other risk for me.
Avatar f tn My husband was recently taken off of Lipitor and has been experiencing daily headaches. He's not a headache person. Is this a common thing when coming off Lipitor? Also, I have read that you should stop it gradually. Is this true?
Avatar n tn Hi Dr. I have ringing and pressure in my left ear along with an inflammed feeling in my thyroid gland. I feel horrible and everyday it's a struggle to keep going. Even my gums ache. I've been to the ent for the ringing in my ear and sinusitis. I use a neti pot and just finished antibiotics but I'm still no better. Now it seems my sinuses are better but my thyroid is burning. I am hypothyroid and I'm on levothyroxine .050.
10996785 tn?1432812977 I've been on the road to recovery now for 6 months. I just could never get a head of steam going. One thing after another has come out of nowhere to set me back. Allergy's from detox, pneumonia, and a stroke. with the stroke, which is considered small and deep in my cerebellum, my vision and balance was effected. My balance was already damage from the benzo's and alcohol abuse. Lately some of you might have read my last thread that I haven't been feeling well.
Avatar m tn I ask because the Lipitor fullpage ads in national magazines say DO NOT BREAK TABLETS and they Lipitor website from Pfizer also says on the meds page DO NOT BREAK TABLETS but my doctor told me to break the 10 mg tabs in half and take just half each day. I wrote to Lipitor's PR department in NYC, a very polite letter, and they so far refuse to answer my emails, preferring to stonewall me, er, pillwall, me, which I do not understand why they would do that. I am a customer. I buy their pills.
Avatar f tn I have since taken my self off lipitor and have been off it now for ten weeks. I am much better but still not totally back to normal. This is potentially and dangerous drug. Beware of it and make sure that you have a good doctor. I have since changed mine. I am now looking at alternative methods to control colesterol.
Avatar m tn Well, here is the latest, after getting checked into the hospital for the feelings and pains i was having, i had various tests done, echograph showed heart was working well. Stress test i did 14 or 15 mins and the ecg's showed no heart attacks, plus numerous blood tests. So it was decided i would have an angiogram as an outpatient. The angio showed a slight blockage as a result of the stent moving, but it was on a lesser archery so it would be too risky to try to fix.
Avatar n tn About a month ago my liver function readings were elevated, so my Doctor took me off Lipitor to see if it was the Lipitor or alcohol consumption causing them to be high. He told me to come back in one month to be tested again. Even without the Lipitor, they went up some to 74 AST and 142 ALT. Now he wants me to go to get a GI Specialist. I asked if this was for more testing, he just said no, but they would be better off determining what medication you should be on.

Avatar n tn Yes, a PFO can cause fatigue as the blood/oxygen level pumped into circulation may be compromised. More likely, the cause of being tired can be related to low blood sugar and anemia.
Avatar f tn Im having trouble with itching, leg weakness, one doctor took me off Lipitor 20m. It stopped for a month Then it came back after a few months. Now my heart doctor is trying it at 10m. Every other day. Now the itching is gone but and the weakness in my legs . But bottom of my feet feel funny! Not pain ! Not hot! I take my Lipitor at night. I go to the gym a few times a week.
1463256 tn?1286028981 I believe you're speaking of Atorvastatin which is sold as Lipitor. Much depends on your numbers. Lipitor is one of the stronger statin drugs and is commonly used to reduce high levels of serum LDL. Lipitor has also been shown to have a minimal effect on raising HDL as well, but is primarily prescribed to individuals with high levels of LDL (over 130) or high total cholesterol (over 200) or people that have several risk factors for CAD along with high cholesterol levels.
678451 tn?1226425977 I had my cholesterol levels tested after being on 10 mg tabs for three months and it was half what it was without any new dietary restrictions, although I do eat healthy for the most part. When I came off for one month and had my blood tested again to see what would happen, I was amazed to find that my cholesterol went right back to what it had been before I ever took the drug. So unfortunately I have a predisposition from both sides of my family.
Avatar n tn People taking lipitor are recommended to avoid alcohol in their diet because it raises the triglyceride levels, another lipid which is a risk factor for heart disease. Going to soft drinks would be far more beneficial for your body obviously but if this is impossible I would switch your lipitor to the mornings. Lipitor, unlike some statin drugs, can be taken any time of the day.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Like you, I pulled myself off of Lipitor (atorvastatin) because of muscle and joint weakness/pain and other recorded side effect. I had only taken it for about five weeks and the discomfort remains three weeks later. I had the same reaction to simvastatin, which I am told is the worst of the bunch. I'm waiting a few months and then I will try something with a less violent track record.
976897 tn?1379167602 Forgot to mention. Simvastatin was chosen because it is now off patent, and is therefore now a much cheaper statin drug compared to the newer stronger varieties such as lipitor (atorvastatin).
Avatar m tn 12 years ago I was put on Baycol to lower my high cholesterol. When it was taken off the market my doctor had trouble finding me a suitable replacement. Each new statin he tried gave me anxiety. Finally we tried Lipitor and I had no problems. I have been on 10 mg of Lipitor now for nearly 7 years with no problems. My insurance will no longer cover Lipitor. My doctor prescribed Pravacol and after 3 doses, I had an anxiety attack. It subsided when I stopped the medicine.
Avatar n tn I've been on 10mg lipitor for about 2 months. In the pst 4 weeks, I have experienced an almost once-a-week swelling in my lips and face...first time lower left, 2nd time, entire upper, 3rd time lower right, 4th time, entire right side of my face and finally, yesterday, entire left side of my face from upper lip to just below the eye. Cardiologist told me to get off drug for 6 weeks to see if anything else is causing swelling.
Avatar n tn Dominant system giving off PLB and PDA. Soft plaque at ostium with 30% stenosis. Lungs have minimal scarring. Thoracic aorta unremarkable.
Avatar n tn does anyone know if its normal when switching statins for the alt ast numbers to spike or is this a sign of body rejecting new statin? was on liptor 20 but not liking it so two weeks ago started simvastatin 30 to see if more tolerable b/c my research said it had the lowest rate of side effects of the potent statins. numbers were normal on 20 lipitor but are now alt 68 ast 54.
