Avatar f tn The triptan you are currently using is Imitrex, generic name Sumatriptan. The triptan that I use is Zomig Nasal Spray, generic name Zolmitriptan. Some other examples of triptans are Maxalt, generic name Rizatriptan and Axert, generic name Almotriptan. It would be worth it to give one of these other triptans a try. I would suggest getting a triptan in a fast acting form, either a quick dissolve tablet or a nasal spray.
656111 tn?1273820739 it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that... I asked why and told me that insurance will only pay only ONE package - any kind of migraine medication per month so then I asked how much is it as I was willing to pay for it BUT when she said it was $200 around that.
Avatar f tn I have migraines a few times a month (2-3) and take 50mg generic imitrex with an OTC NSAID. So after having two different doctors tell me that I need to get an "official diagnosis" of migraines from a neurologist, I finally saw a neuro. yesterday. To say that I am confused and angry is an understatement! For $250 he told me that I have mixed migraines/tension headaches and to reduce my stress and that my migraines would improve or lessen.
518798 tn?1295212279 Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.
Avatar m tn I had some rough days but the headaches I did have were contained with ice, laying down, dark room, etc. When it would get really bad I would take Benedryl to knock myself out and just go to bed. Sometimes at like 8 O' clock at night! Giving it up c/t was the best thing I ever did. Now i only have an actual migraine like once every two weeks or so. So themom3, you may definitely tell your daughter to try this. I can't tell you how great it feels not to have a headache every day.
Avatar f tn Im allergic to Imitrex, when my neurologist tried me on that when it first became available, within 5-10 minutes, i was throwing up, dizzy spells, and ready to pass out from the horrible pain. Over the years hes tried me on other "safe" meds, unfortunately they did not work for long. Im now on Butorphanol spray, demerol, ativan and sleeping pills, all for pain management, ,i have also been on preventatives for years,i have not worked for 20 yrs from my intense migraines.
Avatar f tn also, if someone offered you a medication that worked as well as Imitrex, you would probably use it when you were in pain as a substitute for Imitrex... which all shows that Imitrex is in no way addictive. As for physical dependency... well, I have heard of the triptan Maxalt causing rebound headaches, which could be considered a type of physical dependency maybe... but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex.
Avatar f tn Could be migraines. Does it throb right behind your left eye??? I've had migraines for years (comes with having 4 kids I think-ha); the only meds that help relieve most of the pain are Zomig (really expensive, but no generic version yet) and Meloxicam (generic for Mobic) - both pills taken together usually decrease pain within an hour or two. Hope this helps. My doc also suggested Imitrex when I can't afford the Zomig anymore.
Avatar m tn Hi~ Imitrex is another triptan. It's generic now so less expensive. Triptans usually work for classic migraine. Once you've been off the Fioricet and codeine, you may notice a huge difference in your pain and headaches. Hope for the best! It's really great you got off this AND burned everything else! Powerful, huh?
333672 tn?1273792789 Therefore, when the generic comes out, most people will be on the new, patent-protected version and presumably prefer that Acccording to the article, "Cephalon [the company that make Provigil] acknowledges regularly increasing the price of its drugs, based on where in their lifecycles they are, market forces, its research-and-development costs and other factors.
Avatar n tn I am a 40 yr old female with a history of migraines. I've always used Topamax as a maintenance rx & Imitrex injections as a rescue rx. My migraines have been under control for over a yr. In the last 3 months, my headaches have returned. I have also noticed that memory (short & long term) & my cognitive skills have been affected. I.E. I can't remember parts of conversations that I only had 5 minutes ago.

768044 tn?1294223436 Has anyone else here tried Imitrex Injection? How did you find using the injection pen? Was it easy to learn how to use? Did you find it worked better then the other triptans? Thanks to anyone that answers who has any experience... or even anyone who has just been given a shot of Imitrex in the hospital before, how was that?
979080 tn?1323433639 I have suffered exploding head syndrome (also known as migraines) for many, many years. I found that Imitrex didn't work and when they were severe would have to go to the hospital and be shot full of demerol and vistaril (an antihistamine that made me sleep). It was not until I could sleep would they go away. That sometimes was several rounds from bounceback migraines and I'd be in the ER for days (happened about 4 - 6 months ago).
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
Avatar f tn Was not at that rate the whole time. I did not notice it before starting the nortryptline. What med could be causing this? I did not notice it before starting the nortryptline.
306455 tn?1288862071 My insurance use to only let me get limited supplies of imitrex because of the price, but now with the generic , it is so much cheaper.... thanks for the info!!
1524673 tn?1327841500 How did they reach your diagnosis at hospital? Only by way of MRI being normal? Did they do MRA/MRV, using contrast, to look specifically at the blood vessels in your head? I have a parent who had a TIA one day, but they saw no evidence of it, only noted an old infarct that day (which happened silently in the past, unbeknownst to us), and Plavix was begun to try to prevent stroke.
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
776539 tn?1235582251 Sumatriptan) and Naproxen. The meds have helped with my migraines, but has not reduced the frequency. I was also ordered a CT and referred to an optomotrist. It seems to be that my right eye does not move completely upward, which causes me double vision from time to time. The CT showed a cronic sinus infection, so I was given Biaxin (generic). I had an allergic reaction to this with extreme dizziness and swelling of my neck along the left side. So I am now taking Flonase.
1088430 tn?1259159773 BTW: Took Maxalt last night & found it worked very quickly! I was able to take it b/f the migraine was full blown; so I'm sure that might have had something to do w/the quickness. I love the "melting in your mouth" factor since that means taking it anywhere. Think I might still get the generic imitrex filled first since it's diff between $5 & $25 (but at least not the $50 relpax is).
1103688 tn?1257894552 Naratriptan (Amerge) is a triptan that some people are able to use even if they have had adverse reactions like heart palpitations when using Imitrex. You could ask your doctor about Naratriptan. Still, it is a risk so maybe not... Another possibility is a class of medication called the Ergot alkaloids, which were the first line of acute treatment for migraine headache prior to the invention of triptans. A famous migraine medication in the class of medication is called "Cafergot".
