Avatar n tn I heard recently that zyprexa is being used for bipolar disorder as well as for antipsychodic disorders. Is anybody else aware of this?
Avatar f tn do u think this feeling of kinda numbness im feeling in right side of face and arm is from the zyprexa i have only beeen on it since monday..what do i do..
Avatar f tn Isn't this for bipolar? What effects are possible if used for insomnia and you do not have bipolar?
Avatar n tn It is safe for the two medicines to be used together. Your child is very young, and I imagine that he/she must be very difficult to manage if these medicines are being recommended. It is unusual, but not unheard of, for medication to be employed with a child so young, and the diagnoses of Pervasive Developmental Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (a type of Disruptive Behavior Disorder) indicate a serious level of emotional disturbance.
Avatar f tn My doctor suspected I was going to be psychotic becuase my boyfriend broke up with me while I was havely overworked. I had a panic reaction and my doctor gave me zyprexa. I used it for 3 months and I stopped cold turkey because I had uncontrolled movement of arms and legs. The worst withdrawal effects that I suffer from are extreme apathy and insomnia. I have seen posts from others that suffer from this as well, but untill now it doesn't get better and I get worried.
Avatar f tn This thread to harm zyprexa users. This discussion is not useful.
Avatar n tn The side effects might last for a while--I think it took a few weeks after stopping Wellbutrin to get rid of my dry mouth, but I'm not sure what the time frame would be for zyprexa. You should ask your psychiatrist (calmly) why she prescribed zyprexa for you in the first place. Explain that you just don't understand, and that you'd like more information. If she won't explain, get a different psychiatrist.
Avatar m tn The doctor has already said to take him off the lithium so they are just giving the go ahead to take him off now, he went off 2 other pills of lithium one at a time, and I think for his own safety it would be better with the last two pills too. I just don't think it would be wise to discontinue both lithium pills all at once all right now. They do plan on taking him off the zyprexa too.
Avatar n tn I was put on Zyprexa for insomnia I was suffering after surgury. The doctor felt it was anthesia induced mania and usually lasts about a year. Its been 2 years now and I have been on Zyprexa for 18 months. Ive been trying to get off this stuff, however before I even get completely off I cant sleep, feel dizzy and have eradicate pulse and blood pressure. I currently have had the medication compounded at 31mg per Ml and I am reducing by one Ml every 2 weeks. Iam currently only taking .62mg.
Avatar n tn but I think that anyone who takes any anti-psychotic medication and knows he/she needs (down in your heart) then stay on it... Zyprexa is to me as Coumadin is to my friend Mohammad who requires it for his heart. And he told me that himself. I agree 100%. I won't waste anymore time with "checking to see if I still need it." It wastes time I don't have. When I'm on Zyprexa, I'm sharp, and insightful, patient, tolerant, happy and calm.
Avatar m tn Zyprexa is not addictive in any manner. It is however an antipsychotic. If you are being treated for schizophrenia or another psychotic disorder you will need an antipsychotic so if you can't tolerate Zyprexa you could ask your psychiatrist about changing to another one.
Avatar f tn I am just curious how freely is Zyprexa prescribed for anxiety disorders outside Australia? I will certainly discuss this with my doctor when I see him next, but I welcome anyone who has more knowledge on this matter. Thanks.
5790942 tn?1374337921 It is an anti-psychotic drug that is usually used for people suffering from schizophrenia and other psychological disorders. It's not addictive per se, but it is like most psych drugs and once our bodies become used to taking it, we must wean ourselves off of it. I suppose that there could be an abuse potential there. We are addicts and can find a way to abuse just about anything.
1082697 tn?1260068216 i resently became very depressed. the doctor has aadded zyprexa to it. it is for bipolar but is also used to boost your antidepressant. it is working well. i feel totally back to normal i do not have any of side affects .it does make me very hungry but i watch what i eat. anyone else taking zyprexa? or celexa?
Avatar f tn The potential of long term movement disorders such as tardive dyskinesia is a concern with all antipsychotics (except for Clozaril which has a severe side effect profile of its own which is the reason it isn't used more but for some people can be helpful) and occurs at a specific statistical rate. A good website for more information on that is "Patient Education Tardive Dyskinesia" (note as the site says "some of these medications may be medically necessary").
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
Avatar n tn Zyprexa is a strong anti psychotic which should only be used as one.It should not to be used as a sleeping aid and should only be used under supervision of a Psychiatrist. For sleeping one could use something like Trazodone,Ambien or Rozerem.
Avatar f tn So, today, her doctor took her off the Mrtazapine and added Zyprexa(not sure of the dosage) with her Zoloft - and while I have read that it is used sometimes for off-label treatments, I am very concerned about some of the side effects that I have read about. Since she has had bouts with annorexia, and is probably 5-10 lbs underweight - weight gain of is not one of the issues I'm worried about and could be a benefit for her.
Avatar f tn Hi HazyW, I looked up your first medication you mentioned, & here's what they say (this is just a very general info, though, from the Zyprexa site,NOT from a Doctor)... *********** ..."ZYPREXA=Olanzapine ..."USES: This medication is used to treat certain mental/mood conditions (schizophrenia, bipolar mania). It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural chemicals in the brain (neurotransmitters).
Avatar f tn Zyprexia is used by the nursing facility as a "chemical straitjacket" to substitute for professional nursing care. It is absolutely positively inappropriate. For an admitting psychiatrist to administer such a medication the first day is unconscionable. My goodness, they never, even got a chance to observe her! For starters it makes it impossible to properly evaluate her.
1353720 tn?1414506724 It is true that the weed growing these days is much stronger in THC (mainly due to better growing condition indoor that mimic tropical conditions and which are good for a good indica weed with a lot of THC) but also, smoking weed is bad for your health, especially for your lungs. Synthetic THC is not an option as I suggest it would only make your symptoms worse. I don't know what to say as you seem to like some of your symptoms tho....
Avatar n tn (It's been 1 week since he has been hospitalized.) From what the doctors say, there is no clear reason for his latest relapse. Two possible reasons are that he may not have responded well to Risperdal, and that he may have gone back to work too fast. Given that, it does not make sense to me that he should be put back on Risperdal (presumably just because he hasn't improved as fast as before and because he is sleepy). What should we do? We are planning to get a second opinion.
874521 tn?1424120397 While doctors are allowed to prescribe any drug for off-label use, it is ILLEGAL for pharma companies to promote a drug for anything other than what it has been approved by the FDA to treat. Eli Lilly was found guilty of doing this. But hey, it's alright. If you develop diabetes from taking Zyprexa, you can just take Humilin, Eli Lilly's biosynthetic insulin approved for use in type I and II diabetes...
616450 tn?1228437227 (Yes, I've read about the risks and side effects.) Has any one else used Zyprexa? I'm hanging in there for the RAI Friday (the decision was made for me by all three endos, by the way, since they think my levels are good enough right now) and I actually feel almost half human. I feel like a person should feel since I've been on this stuff. It seems to help the symptoms NOW--not in three weeks.
Avatar f tn From what I have read, Zyprexa isn't just taken for 3 or 4 days, it's for mania, psychotic breaks and/or mixed episodes. It helps balance you brain chemicals. It's not a bandaid drug. Give it a go, it may take a few days to fully kick in, that will settle down the urges that you've stated, which are very serious including the insomnia. The urge to harm others is NOT normal, it's the BP. Some folks do really well on this drug, so don't freak out about the "horror"' stories.
Avatar m tn seroquel doesn't come in the dissolve form but can be used as needed as is very good for some people with agitation and things like that. I use it for when everything gets to much and it makes me sleep it off.
