Common Questions and Answers about What is zyprexa used for

zyprexa

Avatar f tn I am just curious how freely is Zyprexa prescribed for anxiety disorders outside Australia? I will certainly discuss this with my doctor when I see him next, but I welcome anyone who has more knowledge on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar m tn seroquel doesn't come in the dissolve form but can be used as needed as is very good for some people with agitation and things like that. I use it for when everything gets to much and it makes me sleep it off.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
5790942 tn?1374334321 It is an anti-psychotic drug that is usually used for people suffering from schizophrenia and other psychological disorders. It's not addictive per se, but it is like most psych drugs and once our bodies become used to taking it, we must wean ourselves off of it. I suppose that there could be an abuse potential there. We are addicts and can find a way to abuse just about anything.
Avatar f tn This thread to harm zyprexa users. This discussion is not useful.
559058 tn?1215810834 I dont have any bad side effects and even my sex life is great. For me the zyprexa is so much better. I think depakote andlithium should be take off the market. But again thait is my opinion. There are much better meds out there than those two.
1082697 tn?1260064616 i resently became very depressed. the doctor has aadded zyprexa to it. it is for bipolar but is also used to boost your antidepressant. it is working well. i feel totally back to normal i do not have any of side affects .it does make me very hungry but i watch what i eat. anyone else taking zyprexa? or celexa?
1082697 tn?1260064616 my body is is so different . my blood pressure went from 112/73 to 158/86 that is a big jump for me. i am on meds for it. but even on meds it is hgh now.
Avatar n tn Zyprexa is a strong anti psychotic which should only be used as one.It should not to be used as a sleeping aid and should only be used under supervision of a Psychiatrist. For sleeping one could use something like Trazodone,Ambien or Rozerem.
1082697 tn?1260064616 Zyprexa can be effective for depression when combined with an antidepressant. My Psychiatrist was thinking about it for me, but I told him no and that he would have to be more creative with his meds. (I'm just not a big fan of any anti-psychotic drugs for depression and anxiety) I had my Psych prescribe me a strong Tri-cyclic and 900Mgs a day of Lithium then added Klonopin for the anxiety.
Avatar m tn OK, I will try to consult with my doctor for Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Wikipedia said FDA approved it for only Mania in bipolar patients not for depression. But I think antipsychotics also reduce depression by looking at the experiences of different people. Can Risperidone also work like Zyprexa? I am currently on it with an anti depressant.
1082697 tn?1260064616 is this drug often used in with antidepressant? i am on 5 mgs a day. it is working wonders for me. i have not really gained any weight. i have so much energy. is it a safe drug? is my dose considered low? the doctor put me on it instead of weaning me from the celaxa and going on cymbalta. i am doing great on it. but am concerned that is has a lot of side affects. i have been on it almost a month now. i have not had nay side affects so far. will it continue to work for me. ?
8798274 tn?1399988458 Hi, Zyprexa (olanzapine) is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. You should always follow the directions of your doctor regarding medications. Your doctor knows you and is able to take your numerous specific circumstances into consideration when deciding what medication and how much is likely appropriate for you specifically.
Avatar n tn Would takiing Zyprexa bipolar medicine cause a false positive for a marijuana **** test?
Avatar m tn I've been taking zyprexa for awhile, I've slowly been decreasing the dosage and I've noticed its much harder for me to get to sleep. I think it does cause insomnia!
628714 tn?1268238196 Hi Zyprexa (generic Olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic medication. Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression). The most commonly reported side effects are sleepiness or excessive sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors.
874521 tn?1424116797 While doctors are allowed to prescribe any drug for off-label use, it is ILLEGAL for pharma companies to promote a drug for anything other than what it has been approved by the FDA to treat. Eli Lilly was found guilty of doing this. But hey, it's alright. If you develop diabetes from taking Zyprexa, you can just take Humilin, Eli Lilly's biosynthetic insulin approved for use in type I and II diabetes...
Avatar n tn For myself I found Lamictal had less side effects and was more tolerable but every person reacts differently. The first priority is for her to be stable so its best to let her take what she is prescribed. Then as she stabilizes you can speak to the psychiatrist about other options. A good website for all mood disorders is "Depression Central". You can and should inform yourself and speak to the psychiatrist. Just don't over ride their judgement.
Avatar n tn However if your doctor has prescibed this drug for anxiety then I think that it is safe for you assume that it used for anxiety. Does it not mention what the drug is used for on the directions/side affects? They wouldn't prescribe a drug that is of no use to you. I was on a drug called Olanzapine and that had had some bad press about it possibly causing diabetes.
Avatar f tn Metformim is a medication used to control or prevent the onset of diabetes and/or regulate blood sugar and this is how it helps with these potential side effects of Zyprexa but you could discuss the specifics with your psychiatrist. What you describe are potential side effects of concern from Metformim so you should inform your psychiatrist.
1082697 tn?1260064616 now this drug is suppose to make you sleepy. well, it is working the opposite for me. the doctor told no one she has ever had on zyprexa had this reaction to it. if anyone can help me with this, i would appreciate it. i am not feeling so depressed .
Avatar f tn Personally, I am not a fan of EITHER of those meds for the treatment of anxiety. Zyprexa is an anti-psychotic and can be used as an adjunct treatment (along with an antidepressant) in treatment of depression and anxiety that hasn't responded well to just an antidepressant. Again, just in my humble opinion, I think there are better options out there, especially to START with. Have you tried any other medication? Therapy? How long have you had anxiety issues?
Avatar n tn m not a doctor but it started like panic attacks during the day with very negative thoughts, suicidial thoughts, fast hertbeat and the feeling I lose my mind. I used to take zyprexa 10 mg which i graduatelly reduced to 5 mg, 8 months ago and I didn't want to go back to 10 so i tried to fight this dissorder dut I couldn't and the panic was increasing graduatelly until I needed a xanax to function. My doctor told me yesterday to take 2 mg risperdal at night and 2.
Avatar f tn After stopping serzone for anxiety, my husband had a reaction of severe insomnia after trying Lexapro for 3 days. His doctor suggested bipolar and put him on Zyprexa but is weaning him down gradually. He's on 7.5 mg currently. What side effects can we expect if he doesn't really have bipolar (which is our opinion) from this medication? We know the most common ones, but what if he is not truly bipolar? I can't wait for him to get off of it, but he is sleeping soundly again.
Avatar f tn I looked up Suboxone and that is used for recovery from substance abuse and I am not familiar with it so if you are concerned about medication interactions speak to your psychiatrist. They can do a search in a physician database that only they have access to and will be far more accurate than any web search you could do (though feel free to go to the medication websites of course). They would likely have a laptop or even Blackberry with the info. All my doctors do even my g.p.
