Avatar f tn I have had on and off anxiety for years but able to manage. Past 6 months anxiety out of control. Basically fear of something happening to me and I won't be able to get help or fear of being "alone". Sounds ridiculous and irrational but cant get past it right now. Cant even drive alone. Very crippling. Even if I go in a store I have to know where my husband is parked and make sure he has his cell phone on. Worst anxiety I have ever had. Taking Ativan now. helps a little.
324396 tn?1297350712 Maybe the real question is....what symptoms does one exhibit if diagnosed with agoraphobia? As DJ as said the term is from the Greek, I believe, meaning 'fear of the marketplace'. I am diagnosed with it....and that is one aspect of disorder. Took time for me to get comfortable shopping for groceries. Generally other words are used these days by psychiatrists....but severe untreated agoraphobia has the power to keep one imprisoned in his/her home. The onset can be gradual..
Avatar f tn Since it happens only in crowded places, you probably have fear of crowds. Try deep breathing in a crowded place. Hum a tune or do mathematical tables in your mind to keep your mind engaged elsewhere so that the subconscious fear does not overtake you. Try and see if this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn Depersonalisation and Derealisation are very common symptoms of spontaneous panic attacks and belong to a group of sensations/feelings often known collectively as Dissociation. The ability to dissociate is on a scale 0 -10 and people with panic disorder are about 4 - 5 on this scale. Many people with panic disorder report that their panic attacks begin with the experience of depersonalisation and/or derealisation.
Avatar f tn I have symptoms such as excessive worry, feeling scared, insomnia, nausea, palpitations, poor concentration, trembling, panic attacks, fear of traffic, fear of dying, fear of crowds, fear of almost everything...... and the list goes on... I'm just 17 years of age and my parents don't pay that much of attention to me to notice my anxiety. I've felt this way for as long as I can remember. Sometimes I feel like I was born with anxiety... Point is... I want help.
Avatar f tn I had to move in with my mom after the birth of my last daughter as our house sold while I was still in the hospital after having her and had a 9 day closing. We did not have a house picked out. That stressed me out bad. But even worse was when we moved out of my moms a year later. We didnt find it great living there. Its hard when you have your own family and you are living at home. But I became a mess when we moved. My anxiety went through the roof.
Avatar n tn s the great thing about being an adult. However, it is best to work on the core issue so that you can handle it when crowds and social situations are unavoidable. A therapist can do great work. And medication can be effective for social anxiety. Since you have a fight or flight reaction with panic, you may do best with a combination of medication and therapy. I have a son who has sensory issues and crowded places are not his favorite.
Avatar n tn Deep breathing excersises work really well for me. I have agoraphobia (fear of crowds, open places, fear of people- totaly not fun!) So staying calm is number 1 on my things to do every day. Also take time for yourself, have a warm bath, read a favorite book, tell yourself it is okay to put your feet up from time to time.
Avatar m tn t work, rather than having some unknown serious illness. Does anyone here have any idea or clue as to what is going on? I feel like something is eating me from the inside out, and I am deathly afraid of whatever it is expanding towards my other internal organs. This may be an irrational fear, but it is a fear nonetheless. I know this is a general public forum, but I have seen a few medical doctors posting on these, without using the pay-for-answer forums. Please someone out there, help me!!!!!!

Avatar n tn My main objective is to give you some insight into your chronic phobia of the dark. The fear of the dark is a very valid phobia to begin with and could branch into many other more specific phobias, such as nyctophobia, the fear of the darkness and the main one I wish to talk to you about now. Nyctophobia is any fear of darkness and it does not have to be chronic. It is usually caused by a magnification of the brain's natural perception of what could happen in a dark environment.
Avatar m tn Is this your own daughter, or are you stepmom or stepdad? The tone of your post sounds like you're only recently gotten to know her and are sort of surprised by this behavior. Since his happens to her in large crowded areas, is there a reason your family doesn't choose quiet uncrowded places to eat? Crowds are stressful for a lot of people, and when she's an adult she can choose to avoid the situations that trigger her anxiety, but she doesn't have that choice now.
Avatar f tn The whole trick to getting rid of OCD thoughts is to take the fear out of them. After a long time, they become boring to us and that is when we finally get closure and most times move on to something else :(. What you don't want to do is start analyzing why you have no more fear. It isn't becasue you are gay. It is because over time we develop coping strategies to help ourselves.
Avatar m tn The people burning the cars were a separate group within the the passive protesters. They were dressed in ninja style and are called the BLACK BOC.They are known to "crash' protests all over the world, they are carry the black clothes in a back pack ans change up and dis appear in the crowds after they destroy and they are never caught...
Avatar m tn I'm confused a bit in that if your doctor has diagnosed this as hypothyroid, he should have referred you to an endocrinologist to see if it's caused by a nutritional deficiency (lack of dietary iodine, treated often with seaweed) or something more serious such as Hashimoto's, which is an autoimmune disorder. As for how anxiety makes a person feel, it differs by the person, but the one constant is irrational fear that negatively affects one's life and leads to avoidance.
671512 tn?1226563206 Learning to avoid emotional judgment where it is not needed and keeping an appropriate emotional space betwen people is an essential part of recovery from bipolar. Part of it is of course having medications adjusted but talk therapy is essential and cognitive behavioral therapy can be helpful as well.

Avatar f tn I will send a prayer that you find your way and find the truth of your being and get honest so you can regain what it is you have lost and what you stand to lose..
Avatar m tn When I was at the carnival this week and it was crowded with so many people where I'd never been around that many people before I think I went catatonic because I went into a stupor and kept zoning out staring at the crowds and such and couldn't focus or anything else. People would talk to me and I couldn't focus on them. I don't do good around large crowds and this was way more than I'd ever been around before.
