What is the difference between protonix and nexium

Common Questions and Answers about What is the difference between protonix and nexium

protonix

Avatar f tn t have medicaid and yesterday my health insurance company said I must use generic of Prilosec first and if it does not work I guess my doc can request the Protonix. I really feel a difference not having the Protonix. Glad you can receive it. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I have not heard of any link between nexium and cancer of the esophagus. There is a link between acid reflux and Barrett's esophagus that can ultimately turn into cancer if the condition is not controlled. That's typically why nexium is given - to knock down the reflux and control damage to the esophagus.
221122 tn?1323011265 t help but wonder if the long term intake of Prilosec caused this arrhythmia problem to start. Then again I also wonder if there is any connection between the long standing problem of GERD and the arrhythmia's. I am very interested in hearing from others with arrhythmia's who may have GERD and have taken PPI's. Perhaps as a new member to this community I should be posting somewhere else, but when I saw that others suspect the PPI's I wanted to be involved with this discussion.
Avatar m tn What is the difference between Prevacid and Nexium in what it does and how it does it? Long term effects?... Is what I am feeling are effects from the aloe healing my esophagus or the medications?
Avatar f tn Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
Avatar f tn protonix and nexium are the same medicine. although the prefixes in pantoprozole(protonix) and esomeprazole magnesium (nexium) are different, its the suffixes that you need to look at. They are the main make-up of these drugs.
Avatar n tn Besides the cost, is their truly a difference between Nexim and Prilosec. The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.
Avatar f tn The best medicines I have been prescribed are Nexium and Protonix. Protonix has a generic available so is inexpensive and works perfectly for me. Studies have shown Nexium to be consistently the most effective but it is more expensive and not always covered by every health insurance plan. United Healthcare for example does not cover Nexium.
1274110 tn?1270788561 I am on plavix also and was taking nexium for gerd. My cardiologist told me to go off the nexium because the FDA has found that the nexium or any of the PPI's inhibits the plavix from working properly. I am now on pepcid instead of nexium. I am curious to find out if your cardio's had mentioned this to you. Protonix is in the same group of PPI's as nexium. Google plavix and ppi's or go on the FDA website. You will read a lot about the two meds. Just for your info.
Avatar f tn That may be a lead on what the Protonix is for... surely you should (have?) talked with your primary care doctor. If not, I suggest you do and do so in the context of the other meds you are on... prescribed by? We don't have you age, but if you are not a senior I'd consider Coumadin a rather aggressive treatment due to "lone" AFib. The aspirin may be enough protection from the unlikely formation of blood clots.
Avatar m tn Hi, Im hoping to talk to a doctor about nexium. Im here on behalf of my girlfriend who recently started to take nexium for her stomach pains. She has been very hot at random times and has been nauseas at night. Her period was suppose to start yesterday but it has not yet and we are not sure as to why it has not. She had one episode of cramps this morning but it was very short and ended soon after.
168348 tn?1379357075 Our GI wanted to give me samples of it for Jenna since my copay went up to 100 for the Protonix and I asked him what it compared to and that is what he told me, needless to say we did not change meds since the Protonix was working fine, I didnt want to risk changing meds.
Avatar m tn Also, I recently heard about Kapidex. Is this significantly better than the others out there (including the Nexium I am on) or should I stick with the Nexium?
Avatar f tn The latest FDA warning for PPI's (nexium is a PPI) is hypomagnesemia - magnesium deficiency. "FDA notified healthcare professionals and the public that prescription proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs may cause low serum magnesium levels (hypomagnesemia) if taken for prolonged periods of time (in most cases, longer than one year).
Avatar m tn Nexium (that caused me bad abdominal cramps, fever and muscle aches) caused me the burning tongue. It seems strange to me I have got allergic to ALL the antireflux medicines. Doctors suggested me trying to take one while under cortison injection, so I did...and again, I had the same reaction!
Avatar n tn Hi, I was also diagnosed with the same thing and my Dr gave me Kapidex which is similar to Nexium. After 2 days on the pill, I starting having side effects of diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting for almost 3 days. They then switched me to Protonix which I am glad to say is working very well. So like CalGal said, it works differently with different people. Your daughter just needs to find one that works best for her. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn Omeprazole(prilosec), lansoprazole (prevacid), pantoprazole (protonix), rabeprazole( aciphaex) and esomeprazole(Nexium). All are of same efficacy. If there is no response to one, switching to another might be helpful. Get your doctor's opinion before changing the medications. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice.
Avatar m tn Also, how you take a PPI drug like Nexium is very important, be sure to check the instructions and take them exactly as prescribed. Keep us informed.
Avatar n tn I too have been suffering for about 17 years for what I thought and still am thinking is acid reflux. I did fine for many years taking zantac and or prilosec. I lost 55 lbs and everything went away even though I stayed on zantac because I could feel some shortness of breath if I didn't take it. I gained about 30 lbs back and this past summer all the meds stopped working. My biggest problem with my Gerd from the start is that I feel like my food gets stuck in my throat or down in my chest.

Avatar f tn I tried prilosec, nexium, prevacid and now im on protonix. The only one that worked (until a month ago) was protonix. Everyone reacts differently to different drugs even though they basicaly do the same thing. As long as your not having any pain it doesn't sound like it is getting worse but i would definatley after 18 days ask your Dr to maybe try a different PPI.
Avatar f tn Yes I do think you fit the profile for zollinger-ellison syndrome, but it is very rare. I hope you figure out what is wrong very soon and find some relief soon too.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to google this and find out what I can in the difference between these 2 areas as far as where lesions present in different areas. So far I have only become more confused. Thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix, Aciphex, Zantac, and Pepcid are all used to treat reflux. You can ask you doctor who will know best which one is least likely to cause you dizzyness.
114870 tn?1210298346 thank you for the help...ulcer is what I was thinking as well, but I thought the prevacid would help it. I have not had any blood test or any test yet, hopefully the END test will show.
Avatar f tn I thought about going on without it for the next few weeks but the pain is bad and I have lost my appetite so much I could probably only eat once a day.
Avatar n tn “Cervical spondylosis results from chronic degeneration of the cervical spine including the cushions between the neck vertebrae (cervical disks) and joints between the bones of the cervical spine. There may be abnormal growths or "spurs" on the vertebrae (the bones of the spine). These accumulated changes caused by degeneration can gradually compress one or more of the nerve roots. This can lead to increasing pain in the neck and arm, weakness, and changes in sensation.
Avatar m tn No wasnt xanax pulse was low before that maybe the other did it tho thanks tho...Nexium protonix and zantac done it. Probly I guess ill go back and see the doc even tho he told me i had a heart blockage and didnt cardiac cath after he told me my stress test was blockage and i was clear. Hmm maybe that did it caridac cath...
Avatar f tn I have had this since the beginning of tx, but is is extremely painful and worse now. My doc has prescribed Levsin and Nexium. Nexium makes my joints hurt, so I stopped taking it. Does anyone know of anything I can do or take to make me able to exist w/out pain and GI inflamation? Thanks in advance.
