775302 tn?1253100505 I'm on the Opana for BT pain and the Kadian is one every 12 hours. There is an Opana extended release but i'm not on that one. I've gone to all the websites and I just can't seem to figure out what the difference is I've even put in Oxymorphone vs. hydramorphone in the google box! Beleive me I've goggled my heart out. But thanks for getting back to me so quick.
Avatar m tn I was just curious, does fentanyl patches work the same way as percocets? And what is the difference btw. a opioid, vs. opiate? The more knowledgable to all these drugs the better huh.
897400 tn?1303329148 neither morphine nor fentanyl are drugs sold on the street as a rule//cept morphine on the street and taken IV is virtually heroin...fentanyl 25mcg would kick the normal populations rear end without a paddle///in fact it would probably put most here on a high or to sleep for a bit as it is stronger than most narcotics in general///never heard it used to decrease tolerence..
1326023 tn?1274867436 Hi Derek, First off, Welcome to he Pain Management Forum. I'm very sorry for what you have been thru. You have suffered more than ten people EVER should in there entire lifetime!! When you compare Morphine to Fentanyl you most remember that the Fentanyl is anywhere from 80 to 100 times stronger than the Morphine. It is the strongest pain reliever available to us from what I understand. I am on the Fentanyl patch. I'm on 50 mcg (micrograms).
3112530 tn?1434032033 I have got to understand why after about 8 hours, the 'itches' kick in. It is extremely annoying. I take Benedil for the 'itches' and it seems to stop them sometimes. Can anyone tell me what causes the 'itches' and what is the best effect to counteract this? My morphine is only 15mg and I try t take it every 12 hours but when the "itches" kick in, (usually about 8 hours later), I take another and it seems to stop.
Avatar f tn Maybe someone will know the answer to this. (I'm sure the NP went over it with me, but my memory is totally shot.) I am just not sure exactly how the Fentanyl patch works. I know it releases the medicine through your skin over a period of hours. I started out changing it every 72 but she changed it to every 48. What I'm wondering is, if I were to take it off and not put another one on, how long would the medicine still work?
Avatar m tn What does the label of information say? Or your doctor?
906738 tn?1251010478 I will tell you that Fentanyl is one of the strongest medications out on the market and to replace it is going to be hard. With your body being used to the Fentanyl, other opiates will not compare. I'm sorry that your having such a hard time. Think about using the tape.
Avatar f tn You use it to convert your fentanyl dosage to an equivalent morphine dose, and then find the equivalent morphine dose to oxymorphone, Generally when converting between opiates, doctors will reduce the new medication strength by a certain percentage to account for incomplete cross tolerance, which is a boost in analgesia you get from rotating from one kind of opiate to another. You can find equal analgesic tables, and apps for calculating equivalent dosing online.
Avatar n tn I got as high as 75 mcg patch of Fentanyl every 3 days and then I developed some kind of allergy. The Pain Dr. says the allergy is to the adhesive, not the fentanyl. I am now down to 37 mcg every 2 days because the patches itch like crazy. I wake up in the morning and my patches are scratched off(even withTagederm) and there is blood on my sheets. My Dr. suggested spraying Benadryl but there has been no difference.
Avatar m tn What is MS Contin and what is MS/IR. They are both morphine? Does the Contin mean extended release and the IR mean immediate release. The MS/IR also has the letters IMN REO. I'm trying to find out if the MS/IR can be cut in half for tapering. Thanks to all that reply.
Avatar m tn The norco now appears to be used only for breakthrough pain- and either the morphine or fentanyl is your main pain medication. The nice thing about the fentanyl patches is once you adjust to them- you’ll come to enjoy not being tied to a pill bottle all the time and the overall pain control is far more stable and less.
Avatar f tn The morphine will help for sure, it will give the synthetic fentanyl to leave your body. Definitely ask your doctor about a taper on morphine. Google opiate equivalency and find how much morphine to start at, talk to your doctor about a realistic schedule. Fentanyl is stronger than morphine, so don't keep taking it until you feel good. That would be a lot. Stay at a tolerable dose until you talk to your doctor again. Did he give you any idea of how much to take?
Avatar m tn The Fentanyl that is. It was pointed out that the dosage is most likely low and I should be on the 50mcg patch, but I'm not a big fan of the patch in general. Maybe the dosage issue has just soured me, but I feel like having the patch on all the time, and the possibility that it could stop working short of 72 hours is an issue for me. I ask for advice because my PMP brought up taking a sabbatical from the meds.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to google this and find out what I can in the difference between these 2 areas as far as where lesions present in different areas. So far I have only become more confused. Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn hon, you posted on a old thread and may not get a response. Go to the top of this page page and at the top is an orange icon..click on it and post your question, etc. That will start a NEW timely thread and you will get the support you need!
Avatar f tn I used fentanyl patches for a year and had an extremely high tolerance for opiates, 1 100mcg/hr has about 10 mgs of fentanyl. Fentanyl is 40 times stronger than morphine. So in essence, chewing one 50 mcg/hr patch is about 5 mgs of fentanyl which is equivelant to 200 mgs of morphine. That's like doing 2 and a half 80s at once. What they're doing is dangerous, end of story, take it from some one that knows first hand. I'm not a dr.
Avatar f tn at 16 went back on the pain meds because i just couldnt take the pain and tried to start with lower dosed ones like nucynta 100mg, ultram taking 250mg at a time then went back to the 10mg norco moved back up to the 10mg percs then they added the 30mg oxycontin back it was just a horrible cycle well last october i had a bad flair up and was scared because my doctors didnt really communicate with me they just throw scripts at me well i found a good doctor who put me on 30mg ms-contin 3 times a da
Avatar f tn My mother who has cronic back and shoulder pain is being taken off of fentanyl 100mcg patch and 7.5/500mg and being put on morphine 60mg 2x daily and then morphine sulfate 15mg every 4 hours for breakthough pain. What I'm wondering is there going to be withdrawl or is the morphine going to have enough of the same stuff in it. If not what kind of withdrawl systems will there be to watch for.
Avatar n tn If you wrote this wrong and you are instead speaking of fentanyl,if someone ate 75 micrograms it could definitely kill you. This is no joke.
696943 tn?1229366600 Does anyone know the difference between Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder?
Avatar f tn Fentanyl is the STRONGEST pain medication out there & not something to joke with. I've been on it for years & HATE my dr with a passion for putting me on it due to the withdrawals that happen easily & the tolerance that you build up quickly. I've never taken Methadone before but have seen what it does to ppl who do take it & one of the effects seems to be weight gain. I've also heard that it causes damage to your teeth & gums.
Avatar m tn Boy you have been through the mill! Everything you said in your posting reflects your inner strength! I was on morphine and fentanyal for a couple years. I am sure you are likely feeling some pretty horrific rebound pain during the taper down. I know I did. It should settle back. It is hard enough getting off the drugs alone but when the pain is still there it is indescribable.
387767 tn?1345872027 Just wondering, what's the difference between the Weight Loss and the Dieting communities? I never know where to post.
