Avatar n tn What is the difference between all the benzodiazepines? I mean, why does a doctor prescribe Xanax to one person, Ativan to another, Klonopin to someone else? I know they're all "anxiolytic" (the ones I mentioned) but what makes one better than another? The reason I'm asking is because I take Ativan occasionally but it really knocks me for a loop (which isn't always a bad thing).
Avatar f tn whats the difference between xanax and ativan? Drs. refuse to give me xanax because they say its addicting. But the ativan only helps if i take it b4 ed as prescribed. I still have panic attacks during the day. The xanax was most helpful. But then i dnt want to get addicted to them. my panic attacks are bad. i feel like my head is going to erupt, explode. i feel like i'm going to get n a car wreck. i always feel like im goin ti die n the most horrible way.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed the xanax at the ER and Ativan from my PCP. The ER only gave me a 2 day supply and had to switch to the ativan because I ran out of xanax. I am supposed to take on a as needed basis. Thank you for your help in advance. This won't be happening again. Thank you.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you are having tolerance issues and you are needing more of the drug. Ativan is short acting and highly addictive. In 1999 I took 1mg ativan and it turned into 3mg a day. I didn't know they were addictive. Just needed them to feel "normal" again. When tried to stop I went into severe withdrawals. Xanax it even shorter acting and highly addictive. It doesn't take long to get addicted to these benzodiazepine drugs.
Avatar m tn Clonazepam (Klonipin) and diazepam (Valium) are longer acting benzos than the alp. and loraz. (i.e. Xanax and Ativan). Doctors will usually prescribe the longer acting ones for longer periods of time while the others are usually prescribed on an as needed, short term basis. In my opinion, all are pretty good at what they are designed to do. ADs like SSRIs are the most commonly prescribed...examples are Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro, Celexa, etc....
Avatar m tn I'm taking 9 mg of methodone a day and are taking 4mg of Ativan and 4 mg of dilaudid 2 a day. I've been on meds for 6.5 years. I'm 39 and fill all I do is take meds . I quite once and the pain was to bad is this a lot of med?
Avatar f tn They are both very addictive along with every other benzodiazepine(valium, klonopin, ativan, librium, xanax) with xanax the one thing that can make it worse is the fact that if you abruptly stop using it you can have a siezure depening on your dose and how long you've been taking it. But in the end ativan and xanax basically rank about the same in my opinion, but you should really contact your prescribing doctor to get their opinion.
Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me what the difference between Xanax and Niravam, my doc put me on Niravam telling me that it stays in my system longer and is no addictive. Everything I have seen states they are exactly the same other than brand name. I know Xanax is cheaper so if they are the same I want to go with it. I am trying to figure out if it is worth keep bringing up. Please help.
Avatar f tn t feel like the klonopin is working and want to go back to the xanax which is what my DR prescribed. Do I have to wait any about of time before going back to the xanax from the klonopin? I took my last dose at 530 tonight. I just heard that klonopin stays in your system longer and don't want the two to interact.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know why the Thomas Recipe suggest valium and using ativan only if you can't get valium? Is there a big difference between these two? Thanks!!
Avatar n tn up to 4 times a day Is there a difference between panic attack and constant anxiety? Is xanax right for constant anxiety?
Avatar m tn I as well have taken both Xanax and Ativan. I personally feel that the Ativan is better. I do not take it often. Only when I am having an attack coming. The biggest difference I felt in the two medications was that with Xanax, I woke up very groggy still not much calmer. Ativan I do not wake up groggy and I actually am relaxed. I think you would benefit from trying it. IF you do not care for it than either ask to be put back on Xanax or a different one all together. Good luck!
689267 tn?1235241749 tramadol is fairly new and is about as potent and has the addictive potential equal to codeine, whcih is fairly low..but the difference between the two is that tramadol also acts as a rapidly short acting SSRI(a type of Anti-depressant), so if taken for a long time and in large doses it can cause seizures and/or convulsions, along with some other mild opioid/anti-depressant withdrawal effects..
Avatar f tn anyone with the same problems should try asking your doctor for ativan or medicnes like ativan. I know that it is similar to xanax..and these types of medicinces have a bad rep with the doctors, but why? is it because they ACTUALLY work? yes they can be addicting, but when taken in moderation, ativan has helped me so much. I am done living my life the way my heart tells me i should.
Avatar f tn My new Psychiatrist is the one who made the change. He is very adamant that I get off Clonazepam. I called today because I am having withdrawal symptoms and he will not increase the Ativan to what the equivalent was of the Clonazepam. I'm a mess right now and don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn hi Im trying to see which works best for me and im all feeling confused,i was switched from ativan to xanx on nov 13 08 yesterday i woke up and took xanx and i fekt so bad i talked to my dr an they said try teh ativan and stay with that so i took ativan the rest of the and thsi morning and i was having such a hard time concentrating and racing thoughts i took a xnax then i talked to dr and they said stay with the ativan(i dont think it helps teh anxiety as well ) so i took a ativan and i ont tak
Avatar f tn ativan is way weaker than xanax, im prescribed .5 mg. myself of ativan, and they will work,at least they do for me, as everyone is different.you can take up to 2mg a day so as long as you dont go over that youll be alright.but take it before you go somewhere or whatever triggers your attacks and during, obviously.but dont expect it to be like xanax.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to google this and find out what I can in the difference between these 2 areas as far as where lesions present in different areas. So far I have only become more confused. Thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn I take Ativan as needed (for super-serious PAs, which is rare). Ativan and Xanax are both short-acting benzodiazepenes that are useful on an as-needed basis (just like how you are taking it right now). If Xanax is working for you, then don't switch. I didn't think there would be much difference in how each works but one worked for sejjajsmom and one didn't so if you have one that works then stick with it.
Avatar n tn Assume you mean Ativan right? Xanax and Ativan are both benzodizepenes, anti-anxiety medications in the same class as Valium and Klonopin (which I take). All of them have different half lives (how long they last in the body) and the potential for a person to build up a tolerance to it depends on the half life. The half life of Ativan is short but much longer than that of Xanax which is really meant for occasional use for panic attacks. Ativan can more safely be taken everyday on a regular basis.
Avatar f tn xanax..which is a benzo drug is very addicting and can be life threatening if stopped cold turkey..I too ended up in the e.r. I don't know about the difference if it's been 6 months or not..you have taken enough on a regular basis to produce w/ds// You should never quit ANy benzo c/t and you should discuss it with your dr..they generally do not warn you of how dangerous this drug can be if stopped c/t ot too fast..
Avatar f tn HI, thank you sooo much for your reply! It really helps. I saw the psychiatrist today because after taking 1/8mg of Ativan yesterday and 7.5mg of remeron last night, I didn't sleep a wink, and my anxiety is through the roof. can't barely walk, blurry vision, and sooo dizzy. and ofcourse being without sleep exaggerates everything.
Avatar f tn If you find, down the road, that the Ativan is not controlling your symptoms, the choices are to increase the dose or try you on something else. Cross bridges when you get to them.
Avatar f tn Xanax is a benzo so it is kinda like ativan but in mu experience xanax has a less sedative effect. Both i think shoulf be taken with only emergencies.
Avatar f tn I think Xanax is a "depressant"......it is used for anxiety....but often, from what I've been told, anxiety and depression go hand in hand. Maybe the Xanax is something you should not be on. I take Effexor for my depression and I take Buspar (buspirone) for my anxiety. Actually the buspar seems like it helps the effexor to work better. Ask you doctor if I'm right about Xanax being a depressant. So is alcohol....and opiates....they are both depressants.
Avatar f tn I am prone to panic attacks. My Dr. had me on Xanax and has not put me on Lorazepam (generic Ativan). This was last Thursday and I am not adjusting well. Yesterday I went to the Emergency room because I thought I was having a heart attack or stroke. My blood pressure was 185/135. Within about 30 minutes it had dropped. It was a panic/anxiety attack. I only take a Xanax if I feel one coming on. I do not take them on a daily basis. It will calm my body down. The Ativan does not.
Avatar n tn Xanax is more potient then Ativan and has even a shorter half life. Xanax is a very problematic drug. Go to site-- benzo.org.uk and there's some infor there about the benzos. If you've hit tolerance to Xanax it's only making it impossible to get sleep. Reference the MJ story. Google the word- -benzodiazpine and find some benzo sites. Then you can find out more about how these drugs work.
1843491 tn?1322859611 but im currently on 20 mgs of methadone and i was tapering until i had a seizure christmas evening for not taking my xanax for 2 days straight, and ever since then i stayed at 20 mgs due to being scared to have another siezure, my question is, mylocal meth clinic switched the methadone.
