Common Questions and Answers about What is pravastatin used for

pravachol

Avatar n tn Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar f tn I went to have my cholesterol checked after taking the pravastatin for 9 weeks. My total cholesterol dropped from 225 to 152, but what seriously concerns me is that my HDL dropped from 54 to 2 mg/dL!!! I just go the news last night and my doctor didn't seem overly concerned. He said I could go off the pravastatin and see how my numbers were with diet and exercise alone. I have been on a good routine with proper diet and regular exercise and I am at the low end of my healthy weight.

Avatar m tn ve now eliminated the pravastatin temporarily to see if that is the culprit. I guess my base question here is, does anyone know if these protein drinks will increase heart rate? Any other insights will be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Is there any diabetic issues? Recent study (in animals) shows that pravastatin reduce glucose while other statins tent to increase it. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn I was on 40mg of Pravastatin and now am on 80mg. Is my doc just being aggressive? Or is there another reason for the big increase? I welcome any speculations.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if the medicine Pravastatin (for high cholesterol) can cause your sugar to go up? I had quit taking it for about 2 weeks and my sugar which is usually high came down to 90-120, when I started taking it again my sugar went back up to 180-230.
179856 tn?1333547362 OATMEAL, stop smoking, use the stairs! less fat, your not old honey, your body is just changing, oh agrees on the fudgecycles! I think a lot of people have to deal with this at a certain age, husband is now, he isn't HCV, but cooking for us is strange sometimes, he is no fat, I am fat, like jack sprat and his wife.
1806721 tn?1554333407 There is a palpable small mass in my left pelvic/abdominal area that is associated with the pain, although nobody knows what it is. So I think Pravastatin is safe for me - will see how it works out for me in a month and report back.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar n tn In early September, I was prescribed a statin for the first time, 40 mg of Pravastatin, to be taken at night. After 2 weeks, I started having muscle pain/weakness in my legs but for the first time in my life had very odd heart palpatations after lying down in bed for about 10 minutes when I was first trying to sleep. I stopped taking the Pravastatin after about 1 month.
Avatar n tn My (74 year old) father currently is taking these medications together Pravastatin Sodium 80mg, Zetia 10 mg, Isosorbide Mnonitrate 30 mg, Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg, Plavix 75 mg, Amlodipine Besylate 10 mg, Aspirin (nsaid) 81 mg low dose The doctor told him his liver count is up 66 and the lower range is 64. Would any of these drugs or combination of these drugs make liver count increase?
1688079 tn?1305854113 The Hospitalist put me on metoprolol 25mg every 12hrs and pravastatin 10mg once a day. Put me on a cardio diet.  What does all this mean and why am I on a beta blocker??
1806721 tn?1554333407 Is there any danger to take Ambien together with Pravastatin? I really very desperately need to sleep through the night... Thanks so much for your help!
Avatar m tn It simply mentions high HDL being responsible. Perhaps someone can show me where calcium is absorbed by HDL? Calcium is stored in the skeleton, transported as ions or bonded to Serum albumin, not HDL. All other research I've read simply says such regimes CAN STABILISE plaque, they mention nothing about actual regression. I wonder why so many patients regularly exercising and taking statins are finding that they require more stents.
Avatar f tn Anyway just wondering if anyone has considered the class action suits they have going on right now cause that is all they understand because really what is a few lives when it comes to profit. I watched my son not even know his own name and look absolutely terrified because he had forgotton how to walk or talk. He had lost his memory before it was over with and acted like a 95 year old man and he is only 39 years old. My heart broke , I thought I was in the twilight zone.
Avatar f tn Staying on antibiotic treatment for extended periods of time is not unheard of. The unfortunate side effect of this is that your bacteria may become more tolerant/resistant to the antibiotic and you will require either stronger doses or an new medication all together...for example this is how MRSA came to be. I am certainly not saying this is what is happening with you, but needing stronger or new medicine may be something you want to keep in the back of your mind.
Avatar n tn You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
