My hubby's been on the methadone programme for the last two years. He was originally taking Fluoxetine (Prozac) But they changed him to Citalopram about 6 months ago. No worries taking it while on methadone.

he really wants to stop but doesnt want to start a methadone programme. i believe he is strong willed enough to kick this by tapering. nut needs some advice on how do it safely so he can still function and go to work. also advice on meds he may be able to be presciribed off his doctor or herbal remedies that can help. we cant seem to get any help from any where. all the proffesionals want him to start a methadone programme, which he is not prepared to do. any help would be appreciated.

can i just say you absolutely do not need to divulge the whys and hows..but the fact that you are on a methadone maintenance programme is so commendable..i had a friend who was a heroin addict and it has got to be the most addictive drug ive ever seen..and i commend anyone who takes control over it and tries to get off it..u need full support and no negativity..

s been on the metadone programme now for 2yrs as is w/ding off methadone currently. He started on 65mg and initially went down 5mg a week til he got to about 10 then slowed it down to 2.5mg a week cos the w/d's were more severe. Once he got to 5mg he slowed it even further and has reduced by 1mg a week since then. he's been on 1mg for the last week and the w/d's have been full on. He's following the Thomas Recipe now cos as from today he's no longer taking any methadone.

I've been taking methadone for about 4 years now and my memory is becoming worse. I regularly forget peoples names and I forget what I'm saying half way through a sentence. I constantly forget the word I need to say and its driving me mad! Am i the only one?

He's been on the methadone programme for 2 years after an IV morphine habit. He was injecting upwards of 100mg a day, he started on 65mg of methadone and has been tapering off since the beginning of this year under the care of the 'Community Alcohol & Drug Services' in our city. He's had alot of psychotherapy which seems to have been helpful. He's also a heavy smoker and wants to try and stop that once he's over the methadone withdrawal.

Could you explain what lofexidine is or what US drug it is. I suspect that you were never on enough methadone to block or diminish cravings. The same thing happened to me when I was on 40- 50 mg.. When I was up higher I shot dope and felt nothing so I wouldn't waste my money. Your withdrawals shouldn't be too bad because of the methadone. The brain and body treats it all the same, it's all dope.

By no means am I trying to say your codeine habit is small but realize if you decided to go on methadone you would be going from one of the weakest opiates to one of the strongest opiates out there. You would be going from one of the easier opiates to get off of to the hardest to get off of. (I don't mean to say it's easy because there is no such thing as an easy opiate to get off of. I just wanted to make you aware of how much harder methadone is to detox from.

Even the taste is unbearable now. Probably cause i anticipate the throwing up. It is horrible. Its turned into a nightmare I'm hoping that this week when i see the Dr. that he will switch me back onto the methadone I'm insisting on it. Not another day not another week.... I often will not take it for several days at a time because of it. Than when i do I kinda feel that I'm having withdrawal symptoms. Legs restless and leg pain. Actually ya serious withdrawal issues going on.

m over the moon that i have been heroin free for longer than i can remember ( apart from time in jail ) But why the hell do i feel like such a cope out for still been on a methadone programme & am still addicted to vallium. I don't miss heroin 1 bit, i no that may be hard to belive & ye now & then i get cravings. But in a whole wheni think about it the thought of the taste makes me feel sick, So ye i think ( pray ) i have come to the end of the road with that drug.

From my methadone experience I think your friend is better off with the combination rather than raising the methadone dose....

Gutted.. yesterday i started a subutex programme. they have started me on 4mill today i have got to take 6 mill then tomorow i will take 8 mill and i will stay on 8 mill for 2 weeks then slowly they will reduce me. But yesterday the withdrawels got too much and i crumbled and used a bag of heroin ontop. i cant believe i did it iam absoloutly gutted, because i used ontop has that now messed up my subutex?? how is this going to affect me?? have i messed the subutex up now?? please help....

Are you saying that you only took one dose of Methadone? If that is what I read, something does not sound right. After years of this, haven't you seen a cardiologist? You really should. You need to get to the bottom of this. If I am interpreting this wrong, please correct me.

What is sub? how does it differ from methadone? my boyfriend is heavily addicted to oxy's and its making our lives miserable, he treated by a pain managment Md, at the moment he is going through the worst withdrawels since I have known him (1 year) he is totally incapacitated and he doesn't get his next script till Friday, how does "sub" work?

Well firstly thanx again for everyones imput, i guess every little piece of advice works out somehow. Knowledge is power. Yes wait2long suboxone at 32mg is the highest dose that is aloud to be prescribed but also your right about the ceiling effect. Im writing this mostly to you as i DO have a cronic pain disorder. I have had 9 operations in the past 6yrs. Im wondering if morphine would hold me better and also take away some of my daily ongoing pain issues.

f u are wondering what lamm is im here to answer ur question. it is a form of methadone that lasts much longer. u would go to a clinic Monday Wednesday and Friday. its designed to stay in ur system much longer and takes twive as long to begin withdrawling from then methadone. its abbreviated for levo alpha acetyl methadole. a lot of clinics stopped prescribing lamm about 8 years ago due to how strong it was.

I am 26 weeks pregnant on Wednesday and I fell pregnant while on Methadone as a maintenance treatment for an opiate addiction. Subutex, which I have used in the past as a means to withdraw from heroin, and am now using methadone as a long-term treatment.

ll be fine, But you have to tell the right people that are careing for your pregnacy that you are on methadone. I no what a worry it is when you have other childern as you think you risk getting social services involed. I think it is a crime that every doctor is pushing methadone for pain relief, due to pressure of the costs of other available, less harmful methods. Is there a panel ANYWHERE looking into this epidemic for the pain SUFFERER? I am NOT going to become a methadone addict because it is SO CHEAP! I firmly endorse educating yourself fully about the enemy - and that is exactly what Heroin is for you.....the enemy. And addictions goal is to win and put you in the ground in any manner that it may. This is a for real no **** fight for your very life that you are currently engaged in. And the methadone at best is another combatant in that war. But you gotta fight this one battle at a time. Win the heroin war and we can talk about the methadone some more.

it sounds to me like a herbal medicine, honestly what I read of it is that the response to it is different for different people. Either stimulating or seditative depending on the dose. I highly suggest staying away from it due to the long lists of unknowns.

my partner recently told me that she has been diagnosed with hepatitis c, as she is a recovering drug user on a methadone programme, it came as no great surprise to me that she may have been infected with something along the way and ive tried to learn as much as i can to help her, but when i bring the subject up she tells me shes been told "possibly by other users that its not the worst and it can all be cured by 2 injections, im pretty sure this is a load of pants but i want to inform her

hi im 25 yrs old and started usin heroin when i was 19 , after a year of heroin addiction i started a methadone programme , this lasted 3 yrs and when i was finally ready i weened myself off opiates completely , i done it, i got my life back everything was great i got all my old friends back started work and met my girlfriend who i love so much.
