329165 tn?1515471990 Thanks for all the info, Irene. You are right: I was actually planning on switching to Sotacor/Florinef that I used pre-op, but in the meantime decided to consult my Pharmacist and she also advised me to phone Cardio. Lanoxin is used to treat CHF and Sotacor is a beta-blocker that can worsen CHF. Cardio didn't tell me that I still had CHF so that was a bit of a surprise to me. He actually advised me to add MORE salt to my diet to elevate my BP. I really don't feel well.
Avatar n tn Lanoxin should be used with caution if he has excessive calcium. What is his heart beat and blood pressure now?
Avatar n tn And yes, I found out from the MIMS that Lanoxin is best taken on an empty stomach, My Dr, can not gv Lanoxin for me as a Maintenance Drug, since my BP is 90/60. And she can not see anything with my heart as showed in my 2D Echo with Doppler. Now she is considering hormonal imbalance, since I am entering a peri menopausal stage. But she advised me too to take a Stress Test to chck on my physio electrical activity. I will keep u posted. I work with animals too and that keeps me active.
Avatar n tn Digoxin is the generic for Lanoxin, so they are the same (just in case you are taking both). Coreg is a great beta blocker, so that should really help the fast heartbeat and blood pressure. Lanoxin helps the heart to beat stronger and get a better fill. Lanoxin will strengthen the heart muscle. Sounds like the medications are really improving your heart. That is really great news!! Yes, your heart can get better.
390388 tn?1279636213 call your dr and have them write a new script for digoxin or lanoxin... there is a possibility that your dr may want a new dig level before starting new script...
Avatar n tn Is your uncle taking Lanoxin (heart medication)? Lanoxin has shown to increase the pumping strength. My father had a weak heart beat and after being on Lanoxin for about 10 years now, he's heart beat is strong (very strong per taking his pulse). Ask your uncle's doctor about Lanoxin.
Avatar n tn Beta blockers like metoprolol and ACE inhibitors like benazepril have been been shown to be of value in patients with congestive heart failure as well as for hypertension. Simvastatin is of value for patients with both diabetes and heart disease. Talk to your doctor and changes can be made to minimize the side effects.
162069 tn?1224677411 It seems that the addition of digoxin to her regimen is what has done the trick, as it has significantly lowered her amount of SVT pac's are still very frequent, but as long as her ef is improved I am a very happy camper....
Avatar f tn My blood pressure is high 160/94 and doc prescribed an ACE inhib for me. How will this effect my PVC/PAC's? Help or hurt? Right now I take lanoxin .25 for PVCs. HBP runs in the family so I was doomed anyway.
Avatar n tn Is amiodarone as safe a drug as digoxin or linoxin for A-fib as far as long term side affects are concerned?
Avatar f tn Thank you for your post and information. It is my 88 year old father that has the Afib. He takes Coreg and Amlodipine along with several other medications 13 different meds in all. We had Echogram and also he wore a halter monitor for 24 hours. I don't take him back until next month. His Doctor said he knew this would happen eventually it was just a matter of time. And that he needs the results of the Halter Monitor to confirm his suspicions so that we can treat it.
Avatar f tn My mother is on coreg .325 and docs just took her off of lanoxin hoping that is causing platelet drop, they aren't sure yet. today heart rate at 142 bpm at rest. All this started happening feb 21. before that heart rate around 100. The problem with more coreg or other beta blockers is the fact her bp too low 96 over 50 the majority of the time. I am soo scared for her, lanoxin prevents heart attack yet it could be the cause of very low platelets and she could bleed to death. catch 22.
Avatar f tn I recently noticed increasing lethargy and fatigue. I’m used to tired..it’s my normal, this is different. I told my specialist and he ordered a blood test which came back as double normal value for heart failure. He ordered an echo to see if my EF was normal or low to determine what kind of treatment I can have. I left hospital before the echo results were given to my Doc so I have to wait until my next appt in three weeks time.
Avatar f tn The heart gets enlarged from the over workload and due to high blood pressure. EF of 46% is much better than what you had at 20%, but normal is far higher. You still should get enough rest and not overwork yourself. I would definitely try to avoid any stressful environment if you can. Make sure that you are taking your medications as prescribed by your doctor. The medications really helps and are best.
Avatar n tn Without evaluating your daughter, I cannot say what is happening for sure. However, it is quite likely that your daughter has congestive heart failure, which means that the heart is not able to keep up with the body's metabolic needs. The heart and lungs are likely working much harder than they should be, and need to have some of the extra fluid removed by these medications.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar n tn He was then discharged and is now recovering at home. He was taking Lanoxin and diuretics and did not have any swelling or breathlessness. So after 3 months the doctor stopped these medications (without checking the EF). He went for his checkup this month (9 months after surgery) and his echo shows an EF of 40%. The doctor also mentions "Mild LV Dysfunction". So now the doctor has put him back on Lanoxin and diuretics. Is this heart failure where the prognosis is poor?
Avatar m tn That has been a good increase over three years and a nice thing to see. You don't say what your cause of low EF was. Taking it that the EF was caused by blood pressure problems or something usually reversible, then the current regime of medication is obviously working well. I would also ask your cardiologist what level of exercise you can do, what he recommends as your maxiumum heart rate for exercise.
Avatar f tn To reduce the risk of an error, prescribers should print all orders for Lanoxin and levothyroxine and include the purpose for each drug on all prescriptions. Both the mg dose and the mcg conversion should be listed in all levothyroxine orders and on product labels, such as "levothyroxine 100 mcg (0.1 mg)" or "Synthroid 0.1 mg (100 mcg).
