Avatar n tn amiodarone is, from what i understand, a very powerful antiarrythmic with serious side effects... i know that my daughters cardiologist at the univ of mich had told us when they put her on lanoxin that the risks of amiodarone in her case made her not a good candidate for it. i do know that many have taken it for short periods and it seemed to help, but i believe it generally not taken long term as lanoxin or digoxin is hope my little bit helps and good luck....... dawn p.s.
Avatar n tn Is your uncle taking Lanoxin (heart medication)? Lanoxin has shown to increase the pumping strength. My father had a weak heart beat and after being on Lanoxin for about 10 years now, he's heart beat is strong (very strong per taking his pulse). Ask your uncle's doctor about Lanoxin.
Avatar n tn If my 2D echo with Doppler showed all normal, what is the cause then of these palpitaitons. Whsat will I do to avoid such worrying palpitations? TYVM and God bless.
Avatar n tn he also has congestive heart failure and is always in atrial fib. His heart is now working at 15 percent. i was wondering if there is any medication or what can be done to have his heart pump stronger so he doesnt continue to build fluid in his body. He currently takes lasix, aldactone and coumadin. Also, I researched Lanoxin and that sounds like it may be a drug suitable for him. Any advice you may have would be great thanks.
329165 tn?1515471990 Thanks for all the info, Irene. You are right: I was actually planning on switching to Sotacor/Florinef that I used pre-op, but in the meantime decided to consult my Pharmacist and she also advised me to phone Cardio. Lanoxin is used to treat CHF and Sotacor is a beta-blocker that can worsen CHF. Cardio didn't tell me that I still had CHF so that was a bit of a surprise to me. He actually advised me to add MORE salt to my diet to elevate my BP. I really don't feel well.
162069 tn?1224677411 It seems that the addition of digoxin to her regimen is what has done the trick, as it has significantly lowered her amount of SVT pac's are still very frequent, but as long as her ef is improved I am a very happy camper....
Avatar n tn Hello! I am a 32 years old female. I had Open Heart Surgery (Tetrallogy of Fallot) at 7. My records indicate that the "problem" was corrected 100% and they did not use anything artificial. They used a piece of "skin" from within my heart to create a patch between both ventricles. For many years after the surgery I was on Lanoxin/Digoxin. When I was in my teens I started having electrical problems in my heart and they used Dilantin (looooong story). I hate that medicine!
Avatar f tn The heart gets enlarged from the over workload and due to high blood pressure. EF of 46% is much better than what you had at 20%, but normal is far higher. You still should get enough rest and not overwork yourself. I would definitely try to avoid any stressful environment if you can. Make sure that you are taking your medications as prescribed by your doctor. The medications really helps and are best.
Avatar n tn Digoxin is the generic for Lanoxin, so they are the same (just in case you are taking both). Coreg is a great beta blocker, so that should really help the fast heartbeat and blood pressure. Lanoxin helps the heart to beat stronger and get a better fill. Lanoxin will strengthen the heart muscle. Sounds like the medications are really improving your heart. That is really great news!! Yes, your heart can get better.
Avatar n tn Without evaluating your daughter, I cannot say what is happening for sure. However, it is quite likely that your daughter has congestive heart failure, which means that the heart is not able to keep up with the body's metabolic needs. The heart and lungs are likely working much harder than they should be, and need to have some of the extra fluid removed by these medications.
Avatar n tn He was then discharged and is now recovering at home. He was taking Lanoxin and diuretics and did not have any swelling or breathlessness. So after 3 months the doctor stopped these medications (without checking the EF). He went for his checkup this month (9 months after surgery) and his echo shows an EF of 40%. The doctor also mentions "Mild LV Dysfunction". So now the doctor has put him back on Lanoxin and diuretics. Is this heart failure where the prognosis is poor?
Avatar m tn Yes, blood clots can be treated with medication and sometimes the clots goes away without medication. Additional information is on your other post.
390388 tn?1279636213 luckily her pharmacy will give her what she needs. what amazes me here is that had i had not seen this post today i would not have known about this... this is a class 1 recall there is nothing on my local news stations broadcasts or on any of their websites.. how was i to learn about this as she is at the beginning of three month supply???

329165 tn?1515471990 Can anyone tell me what is this Pro-BNP test and if 218 is high? GP is conserned and whant to send me back to Hospital and I don't want to go, unless there is something wrong. Current symptoms: still have pains (both breasts and middle/sternum area) dizzy, irregular heartbeat (at times 30 miss beats/extra systoles per minute), palpitations when I climb steps/urinate (had these symptoms pre-op), fast HR low BP. Please help. I am going nuts here.
Avatar f tn My mother is on coreg .325 and docs just took her off of lanoxin hoping that is causing platelet drop, they aren't sure yet. today heart rate at 142 bpm at rest. All this started happening feb 21. before that heart rate around 100. The problem with more coreg or other beta blockers is the fact her bp too low 96 over 50 the majority of the time. I am soo scared for her, lanoxin prevents heart attack yet it could be the cause of very low platelets and she could bleed to death. catch 22.
4703993 tn?1379768388 Hi Everyone... My electrophysiologist is having problems finding the right medication to treat my POTS and IST. I am currently on Midodrene for my blood pressure. For my heart we have tried Atenolol 12.5 (really small dose, but even with 10mg of Midodrene 3x a day my blood pressure would drop too low and the side effects were unbearable) .. so he concluded that I have a sensitivity to beta blockers.
1517859 tn?1290825822 Several tests have been done since then but the findings are found ok except for LVEF at 30%, BP is normal (120/80) His health is detoriorated substantially, he is now almost bed ridden due to weakness, his weight is now 42 kg( at the time of bypass 72 kg) and health condition is worsening. We are clueless as to what is cause of this ( he was a very healthy man otherwise befor bypass, non smoker,no drink..). Consulting so many doctor but not getting a sloution.
Avatar f tn Does this mean that my enlarged heart could be reducing in size or just that the ICD and medication is working? I had a lot of stress before my diagnosis and have not worked since. Is it possible that if I go back to the stressful environment that my heart might get worse again or am I actually in the process of being cured?
Avatar f tn I would talk to a doctor about a catherezation to find out what the problem is thats causing it though. If i can help any more just let me know.
Avatar f tn My mail order pharmacy sent me 0.75mg of levothyroxine instead of the 0.75mcg which is the correct dosage, I have taken almost the entire bottle, I need a refill this how I noticed the dosage was wrong. Is there a big difference between mcg and mg? Could this be harmful?
Avatar n tn Yes, it is possible to have vessel (coronary) occlusions and not experience any symptoms until there is heart failure...especially true for older indivduals and diabetics. If you were experiencing angina (chest pain, etc.), shortness of breath, fatigue and medication provides relief, then one could almost always forgo interventional procedures, but if you don't have symptoms, there is no reliable way to know if medication is effective for your CAD.
Avatar f tn My blood pressure is high 160/94 and doc prescribed an ACE inhib for me. How will this effect my PVC/PAC's? Help or hurt? Right now I take lanoxin .25 for PVCs. HBP runs in the family so I was doomed anyway.
Avatar f tn My cardiologist wants me to start on Lanoxin (.25mg). My blood pressure is pretty low so he thinks this would be the best med for me. He thinks maybe this will get me through the next few months and that maybe I can wean off of it after that. Ugh, I'm just frustrated that I need to start medicine since I had the ablation so I wouldn't have to take meds. Any insight would be appreciated! Thank you!
Avatar f tn Thank you for your post and information. It is my 88 year old father that has the Afib. He takes Coreg and Amlodipine along with several other medications 13 different meds in all. We had Echogram and also he wore a halter monitor for 24 hours. I don't take him back until next month. His Doctor said he knew this would happen eventually it was just a matter of time. And that he needs the results of the Halter Monitor to confirm his suspicions so that we can treat it.
