Avatar f tn what is the difference between Graves Disease and Hyper thyroid? I have been diagnosed with Graves Disease, I am scheduled for surgery but wonder if the leave half or part of the smallest side of the my gland, will that cure it, or will I be at risk of having to get yet another surgery?
522070 tn?1233756919 The number I have seen is that less than 5% of those with Graves/hyperthyroid develop the eye disease associated with the thyroid disease. The eye disease is actually caused by different antibodies than those that cause the thyroid disease. Sometimes people have the eye problems and never have thyroid problems. Treatment of hyperthyroidism does not treat Graves Eye Disease.
Avatar m tn It looks like you might have more than one thyroid autoimmune disease going on. You are positive on the thyroid stim test which is indicator of Graves, but yet you are high on TPO Ab which is indicator for Hashimoto's. TSH shows low but your Frees are normal range. Your Free T3 is actually pretty low normal. With these antibodies, your thyroid levels may be swinging all over the place. When are you do back for another set of thyroid labs? You should have a TSH, Free T4 and Free T3.
877337 tn?1249844450 If Graves Diseas is the most common form of hyperthyroidism, what are the other forms? I'm still waiting to see the Endro but at this point my tests are showing that I am Hyper. I'm leaning towards belieiving that I may be developing Graves Disease but I don't want to get ahead of the doctor. My scan only showed the upper left lobe of my thyroid being effected and that is the one thing making me think it might not be Graves.
Avatar f tn honey this is way to confusing... Graves is not tumors growing in the legs!... Graves disease is a thyroid condition - a HyPERthyroid condition... The thyroid controls alot of cell, metobolism and many other things - but a doctor will not look at a tumor on the leg and say you have Graves disease. You also say you have been hypOthyroid for 15 years... this is not making sense.
Avatar f tn i have graves and was treated with RAI over 19 years ago. if i had known what the future would hold i never would have done the RAI. ever. doctors tend to treat your TSH, not the actual level of thyroid hormone in your body. i have struggled with low thyroid hormone levels for the past 19 years because my TSH is "in range".
Avatar f tn Have you been diagnosed with Graves Disease or did you have a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism and remains that way; Hashimoto's often starts out with hyperthyroidism that alternates with hypothyroidism or periods of normal, but, eventually, settles into permanent hypothyroidism that requires replacement thyroid medication... What medication did you take, what dosage and why did you stop taking it?
Avatar f tn I got tested because my mother and grandmother have graves disease. I went a specialist but they said I have mild graves disease and there isn't anything to do until it really gets out of control but I am just scared that my working out and cardio might be doing something to my heart. I know when I get doing the cardio my heart gets up to 170 or 180 and i am 22 years old. I just didn't know if that is okay for someone my age or if I am overworking my heart.
Avatar n tn what are the lond term of effects on the kidneys especially if you are on snythroid This discussion is related to CAN I BE ALLERGIC TO SYNTHROID?.
Avatar f tn Thyrogobulin is used in the process of making T4 and T3 hormones. When the thyroglobulin is being destroyed the ability of the thyroid to produce hormones is impaired. 241 is a high enough number to be concerned about, but it could easily be much higher. The amount of damage the antibodies are doing is less than it could be. I don't mean to trivialize it. I'm just being frank. If she hasn't been tested for TPOab, she should be. TRab, as well.
Avatar n tn After being diagnosed with Graves Disease, I opted to have my Thyroid obliterated using the Radioactive Iodine Therapy procedure. During the transition of losing the Thyroid, I lost a good portion of my vision in my right eye. Was told that the vision loss is due to AION (Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropothy). Once I lost my vision, I began to feel "unbalanced" or "light headed" at all times. Sometimes this feeling diminishes but it never really disappears.
1428646 tn?1330978063 graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster. I was on medication for about 2 years. then it went into remission now it is back. graves disease could attack any organ , graves disease is your immune system attacks your organs not virus or bacteria.
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
968065 tn?1248466697 30 to 6.20 means you are okay. I was reading somehwere that it is 0.30 to 3.00 in the U.S. and that someone with levels above 3.00 should be considered Hypo. Please help!
Avatar n tn My interenist suspected Graves, ergo the reason for the tests. My concern is that I have some of the classic symptoms of Graves, but my test results show me to be in the normal range. I'm wondering if others have had their values fall in the normal range but second level testing (e.g., radioactive iodine test) revealed a problem.
Avatar n tn I started out ,u journey as a hyperthyroid patient. Very ... very hyper. After uptake scan and a full panel of tests - I was classic "Graves" I had all the normal symptoms of a Graves patient my pulse rate was very high and I thyroid stormed in 2003. I suppose looking back my thyroid probably would have burnt itself out - but considering the storming my endo ordered RAI to kill off the active tissue of the gland. after that - I became hypo and suspect Hashi now.

Avatar m tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Gravesand Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease." *** I've had both Hashi's and Graves antibodies simultaneously but I had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis previously.
Avatar f tn Her TSH was just above normal ( high) and T3 and T4 are high. what does it mean to all three of those high. The PA mentioned hyper thyroid doesn't make sense to me. what is it?
Avatar n tn What do you mean by symptoms? What are they? How are your thyroid levels?
Avatar m tn Since you are having new tests. Can you call them and ask to get the TSI Graves testing down too? Just to get a reading on if this is something more to look at.
Avatar n tn does any one have graves and is hyperactive during pregnancy?are you on meds?what kind?
Avatar n tn i feel like my legs are going to collapse, i feel sick all the time, im just looking for a doctor that will listen to me because my symptoms are getting worse. what i understand about graves disease is that it is an autoimmune disease and that there is no cure, but the endocrinologist is taking it so lighly because my readings are fine, what am i to do??
