324396 tn?1297350712 Maybe the real question is....what symptoms does one exhibit if diagnosed with agoraphobia? As DJ as said the term is from the Greek, I believe, meaning 'fear of the marketplace'. I am diagnosed with it....and that is one aspect of disorder. Took time for me to get comfortable shopping for groceries. Generally other words are used these days by psychiatrists....but severe untreated agoraphobia has the power to keep one imprisoned in his/her home. The onset can be gradual..

Avatar m tn s what can happen. There is no magic cure. It kind of passes with time. Bit like you grow out of it. As if you move along onto something else. It can be frightening. Just hang on in there with it. It will pass over time. To the point were it will stop for good.
Avatar n tn Deep breathing excersises work really well for me. I have agoraphobia (fear of crowds, open places, fear of people- totaly not fun!) So staying calm is number 1 on my things to do every day. Also take time for yourself, have a warm bath, read a favorite book, tell yourself it is okay to put your feet up from time to time.
Avatar n tn Just curious isn't " The cause for DD is usually due to the chamber walls are rigid and does not relax ienough to fill adequately and/or the walls and/or septum (wall dividing the heart chambers) are thickened to the degree it crowds out filling capacity" as stated in prior post be defining LVH?
Avatar f tn Hello, I do suffer with ocd. One of my fears is pregnancy. Although I'm not having sex, I still fear I can get pregnant :( it's a pain. So I went to a house party and I had to pee real bad, using other people's restrooms is a no no for me. But I was kinda tipsy and I had to go. As I was squating I slipped and fell on the floor on something wet. Idk if it was girl or guy pee. Now I'm freaking out with pregnancy thoughts like what if.
Avatar f tn I am 25 years old. I've lived with my grandparents for the past 10 years. I moved in with them due to issues with my mother being an alcoholic and things generally being unstable in that environment. My grandma has always been controlling. I hated jobs I've had but stayed there for fear of her being mad at me for quitting. Any time I didn't show up at work or school, she would be highly upset with me; often ignoring me for days and threatening to kick me out of the house.
506273 tn?1260138781 A person with social anxiety disorder is afraid that he or she will make mistakes and be embarrassed or humiliated in front of others. The fear may be made worse by a lack of social skills or experience in social situations. The anxiety can build into a panic attack. As a result of the fear, the person endures certain social situations in extreme distress or may avoid them altogether.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Social anxiety is pretty common. And it can vary in intensity from person to person. As I've gotten older, I've found that I can make decisions that work best for me. If I don't love crowds, I limit having to be in them. That's the great thing about being an adult. However, it is best to work on the core issue so that you can handle it when crowds and social situations are unavoidable. A therapist can do great work.
667078 tn?1316000935 My 7 month (next week) puppy monster is about 75 lbs and in one of his fear stages. He does fine in public and crowds until someone approaches him. Then he runs behind me for "protection." He has no idea that he is huge. His training has proven to be good exercise for me. The trainers keep telling me to be patient and he will grow out of it.
Avatar m tn s really going on. Even possibly thinking of changing schools for a fresh start if the bullying is what is getting to her. I will pray for your families health and happiness. Sorry if this does not help.
12680650 tn?1427307118 m not sure if it is the same as what RonL is describing, I know that sense of falling, that usually happens with a leg jerk or something like that. What I experience is a little different, it is as if you are almost semiconscious and right on the cusp of falling asleep but then feel yourself drifting into unconsciousness, but then a surge of adrenaline will radiate through our body. It seems as if there is no jerk involved... or at least my husband never seemed to notice.

I'm just 17 years of age and my parents don't pay that much of attention to me to notice my anxiety. I've felt this way for as long as I can remember. Sometimes I feel like I was born with anxiety... Point is... I want help.

Avatar m tn When I was at the carnival this week and it was crowded with so many people where I'd never been around that many people before I think I went catatonic because I went into a stupor and kept zoning out staring at the crowds and such and couldn't focus or anything else. People would talk to me and I couldn't focus on them. I don't do good around large crowds and this was way more than I'd ever been around before.
Avatar m tn I have read about runners dying while exercising, BUT for every story like that there are literally millions of others that it is improving there heart health on a daily basis. We tend to focus on that one negative story when we are worried about something in particular. So, I decided to confront it and it has made me a much healthier person for it.
