1335947 tn?1275685447 hi and welcome to the forum...clonadine is a B/P med it is used for its side effects during withdrawals it will give you some relief form the creepy crawly feeling it will also help control the blood presure spikes common with detoxing...also for some it makes you tired this would have been a lot more helpful 5 days ago for you but if your symptoms are lingering it could help ...good luck and God bless....
Avatar f tn My son, who is 9, was given a prescription for clonidine about a month ago, we just finished our first bottle of 30 pills. I have not seen much of a difference with his tics. His were vocal and facial. His vocal has decreased some, but I think that is more so with the other methods we are working on with him. However, his tics got considerably worse if he was tired.

Avatar f tn As always, I recommend that parents have a close working relationship with the prescribing physician and understand exactly what the medication is, what it is intended to affect, what the side effects are, how direct and side effects will be monitored, and how decisions about dose increases and decreases will be made.
441267 tn?1211687001 Clonidine can be effective if used correctly. Once 20 years ago, a doc in a hospital in Ca. gave me a great clonidine detox inpatient. I was hooked on methadone and heroin so he gave me clonidine pills and put a patch on me plus gave me some attivan and darvon. It worked great and I was sleeping all the time. He gradually awoke me after about 10 days and after 3 weeks I was off all detox meds. I tried to duplicate this later but it didn't work as well.
Avatar f tn hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.
Avatar f tn second, my doctor prescribed two clonidine patches for me for any withdrawl symptoms. What do these do ? my doc said it woud basically knock me out...love that of course... but, i am hesitant because i had never heard of it... i know it is a little strange for a prescription lover to be afraid of a new drug...weird. but, i would like to hear about some experiences with people who have tried it before. Thank you so much.
Avatar f tn my doctor gave me clonidine to take at night with my regurlar blood pressure medicine in the am and i read up on it and it said don't take with rx pain meds so I haven't but I also noticed that it is used for w/d's so how long do you have to wait after your out of pain meds can you start taking it?
656243 tn?1231288052 This is untrue-clonidine is becoming more and more widely used for anxiety, especially anxiety related to PTSD, cPTSD, ATD, and other forms of anxiety of trauma-related etiology--especially panic and nightmares.
Avatar f tn Guess it was better than nothing but not sure if it helped enough considering it is just another pill a was taking. The way I see it is what is one week of hel!? That one week of it is worth every second of it.
135222 tn?1210432488 I,d talk with my doctor or someone in the medical-field regarding this, but personally, if it were me, I would,nt take use clonidine untill I was in withdrawals, this is what this drug is meant for & at 47.
Avatar m tn anyone have any info on using Clonidine .1 mg for opiate withdrawal systems? Suppose to be a high blood pressure medication, but says it can be used for withdrawal systems too? wondering if it really works?
Avatar n tn i am prescribed atenolol and clonidine and i finally decided to take more dosages than prescribed. i took 100mg of atenolol and 0.2 of clonidine at once. my heart rate is 44 bpm and my blood pressure is 100/69. this is the lowest that i can remember these readings ever being. i only feel very lethargic and sleepy and like i am about to lose consciousness, but honestly,i do not mind that..it is much better than being tachycardic.
Avatar f tn Some vit/min you can take at night to help relax the muscles and such and some during the day for Energy..Do some homework and find which one you take for what. There are tons of natural ways to detox with out meds, but I would highly recommend the BP med right now. Just know that the physical detox will be over soon..It is dealing with the mental and staying clean that takes the cake..Just take it day by day and get that Support.
880900 tn?1467270141 WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn ) Lots of people on antidepressants. Clonidine is usually used to lower blood pressure, is that why you are on it? Again, that should preclude you from a job. It does have some side effects that might make something like using heavy machinery a bit difficult? But don't think that is fully restricted and most jobs would not be effected. And Abilify is like Prozac used to treat diagnosed mental health disorders. Taking them is good, means you are treating mental health.
Avatar f tn taking clonidine is gonna lower it even more...it is powerful BP med and should be used under a drs supervision..low BP is even more dangerous at times than high Blood pressure Neurontin is an old drug..it interrpts pain signals to the brain...safe and not a drug of abuse...the new nerve blocker/lyrica/has much more side effects and is often abused....but neither r physically abit forming...neurontin being much safer than lyrica...I have chronic pain and have been on neurontin for 15 yrs...
877402 tn?1241569071 Medications for Opioid Withdrawal Opioid withdrawal is difficult to endure, and is a major reason for relapse and continued prescription drug abuse. Medications are used to prevent symptoms of opioid withdrawal during detox, easing the person out of physical dependence: Methadone is a long-acting opioid medicine. It activates the same opioid receptors as narcotics, effectively eliminating withdrawal symptoms.
198154 tn?1337787265 Clonidine worked great for me. Doc gave me .1mgs about 3 weeks worth. taken twice a day. No side effects for me being that I am 6'3" 225lbs. It takes alittle more for us Big Boys.
Avatar m tn thxs for the reply I'm taking.
Avatar f tn just an fyi to you....I don't know what kind of doctor prescribed you clonidine but the usual dose is 0.1 mg three times a day. Are you sure you weren't given klonopin, which is a benzodiazepine, and can be given at 2mg doses? Some people have actually been prescribed 0.3 mg clonidine but never that I have ever known have they been given 2 mgs. That would drop your blood pressure way too much! Just thought I would ask. You are right, though, clonidine is a bp med.....but klonopin is not.
1069452 tn?1256600037 m not sure about your story but are you currently trying to get off opiates also? That is what I used it for. A lot of the withdrawals is a mental battle so if you think it won't work, you may trick yourself in to thinking that it really won't. Make sure to check in to the amino acid protocol. Also, I can't stress exercise enough! It makes a world of difference and helps speed up the process. Also be sure you are eating healthy and pushing the fluids.
