Avatar f tn Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!
Avatar n tn Aggrenox does have aspirin in it. It is recommended for strokes, as you already know. I'm not sure why the Dr has taken away the Aggrenox. Maybe he feels that taking aspirin is equivalent with less side effects? Aspirin does work well to help prevent stokes and heart attacks. So, there was no reason given for the change?
Avatar m tn I have been taking a baby aspirin for some years and subsequently had a stroke/ruptured aneurysm and TIA recently. The doctor prescribed Aggrenox and I take it twice a day.
Avatar f tn I guess the Aggrenox was not working that well. The Coumadin is bringing my INR up. Is there any Herbs that you know the interact with Coumadin? I would love to take some Colon Cleansers. Thank you.

1213000 tn?1280463161 the results of thst angiogram was, all stents are now closed, all grafts are open but there is flow irregularities that may be caused by size mismatch between the vein grafts and the native arteries. This is being treated with Metprolol 25 mg and Diltiazem 120. 5 days after this angiogram, I went to cardio rehab and worked out pretty good on the treadmill. That night I had a mild stroke affecting the left arm and leg.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the site and to the community. You have come to a place where people are very supportive and have a lot of information. I would like to point out that as the information on your left says, this is only my personal advice and you should always consult a doctor with problems first. Also, while it is understandable to want information or advice about medication/s you should never alter or stop without speaking to the prescribing doctor first.
Avatar f tn I am not sure if her physician would be agreeable to try a simple 81 mg baby aspirin with her. Plavix is another blood thinner that is prescribed also.

Avatar f tn What is causing chronic, severe itching since my father's stroke? --ischemic stroke, right side brain, left side paralysis. My 80 yr old father had a stroke 4 months ago. About 1-1/2 months ago he started experiencing mild itching on his legs and has now become chronic all over his body. Most of his meds have rash and itching side effects. Aggrenox was just changed to Plavix, but the itching has not stopped. 325mg of aspirin is also a future consideration as a blood thinner.
469014 tn?1207171512 THE BACK ONES ARE NOW DOING WHAT THE FRONT ARTERIES ARE SUPPOSE TO BE DOING BUT THEY ARE ALSO HALF BLOCKED. ALSO HE IS BLOCKED IN BOTH LEGS. THE DR SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR HIM BECAUSE IF HE WENT UNDER THE CHANCE OF HIM MAKING IT THROUGH SUREGY WERE SLIM. THEY ALSO TOLD HIM IF AND WHEN HE HAS A STROKE THAT IT WOULD NOT BE A MILD ONE. SO MY QUESTION IS TO YOU IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE HE CAN DO TO HELP HIS SITUATION.
Avatar f tn m on both of those meds, along with aggrenox, But I got caught up in looking for numbness when so many people died in my family, it's my own fault. It's my own wicked web I weave. I'm originally from Mich I'm just afraid of what he will say I like & respect him a lot & he did not overprescribe, so I'm already anxious tapering. The husband idea is an absolute no go unfortunately. Very complicated. Thank you for taking the time, and taking care of Michigan!.
Avatar f tn My question is what could be the possible connection between my congenital heart defects and the low BP episode? Something I need to be prepared for or a freak event? Is there something I can do to help increase BP more quickly should it occur again? If not related to heart, what are other possibilities?

1189223 tn?1264553189 s one that no one really wants to answer believing that the diagnoses may lead to a self fulfilled expectation, but for personal and financial purposes I really need someone who is willing to give me a straight forward answer about what my chances are of being around or at least capable of making decisions 6 months or a year from now? I know they are not good, but no one will even try to give me a clue! I am the type person who needs to face reality and can take it.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your feedback. To my first responder I had a clot with no bleed and to the second I'm on aggrenox twice a day. I've definitely become more aware of hydration and make a more consciouse effort to stay hydrated. I went to see my neurololgist and hemotologist this past Friday and they both are referring me to a Cardiologist. Trying to find out why to prevent another.
