Avatar f tn My rx says adenosine nuclear stress test. Adenosine is used in lieu of exercise.
Avatar n tn A normal nuclear stress test will not show blood flow through the carotid arteries of the neck. In general, a nuclear stress test accuracy rate is 85% to 90% for CAD in your heart. For the carotid arteries, the first test is usually an ultrasound, then an MRI or CT scan and the final test would be an angiogram.
Avatar f tn I wonder why you had a stress test, some symptom trigger it? In my case I asked for a stress test to get a better number on what my maximum exercise HR should be. This lead to lots of additional nuclear and other tests because I couldn't pass the stress test when I in fact didn't have the main problem it checks for. Sorry if I wander... bottom line, see a cardiologist but if you don't have any serious symptoms I think you should think positive, nothing is wrong.
Avatar m tn It is important to remember that each test looks at different things, I mean, what would be the point of 3 tests if they look for the same thing. When you have abnormal ECG and or stress test, a nuclear scan is important to establish whether you have any necrosis (dead heart muscle). If the nuclear scan revealed that a section of heart muscle has died, then bypass or stenting is a waste of time because the blood won't be of any benefit.
Avatar n tn There must a physician close by, but there has never been a need to have a cardiologist do the test. That is what the Nuclear Medicine Technologist is trained to do. The cardiologist will read the results of the test, but never have I heard of the cardiologist actually doing the test. I also live in a pretty heavily populated city and I work in a pretty good sized hospital.
Avatar n tn If I could suggest one thing, if you are going in for a stress test, perhaps you should ask for a nuclear stress test. You will get all the advantages of a normal stress test but also get a look at the blood flow in your heart. My Doctor let me go straight to a nuclear stress test, and it's a piece of cake as well. In addition, it has a much higher accuracy rate than a normal exercise stress test. Just a thought, good luck!
Avatar n tn I do not know what it means, are the results acceptable, good very good etc. What does this say about the blood flow to the heart muscle ? "injection of Myoview nuclear tracer & resting images obtained excercised on a treadmill for 5 min 34 sec. to 10.1 Met workload achieving 95% age predicted max heart rate with a double product of 21600 injected with Muoview @ 85% age predicted max heart rate and excercise cont for 1 minute beyond that teat limited by fatique and short of breath.

Avatar m tn The amount of blood it pushes out, compared to how much is in the heart, is the EF. This is calculated as a percentage. So if you had 100ml of blood in your heart and it pushes out say 60ml, then your EF is 60%. Normal is 55%-70% so your heart is still working fine. However, you can't really use EF as a guide to disease because you can have tons of plaque and still have a good EF. It just shows your heart is functioning well.
Avatar m tn I have no symptoms of heart problems, but I have a family history of heart disease. Is a nuclear stress test advisable or is there another test that would be more appropriate given the fact that I'm asymptomatic. I understand that the radiation exposure in a nuclear stress test is 250 times that of a chest xray. I'm concerned about the risk of exposure to that level of radiation given the fact that I have no signs of heart problems at this point.
Avatar m tn No you are not wrong, I had symptoms for years before they finally realised what my problem was. But what have symptoms got to do with anything? One thing to maybe consider in your logic are the many people who discover they have dead heart tissue years after the event. They didn't even realise they had a heart attack. Is it not wise for your Cardiologist to be cautious? after all, your calcium score is VERY high.
Avatar m tn As for the heart burn... I had a similar symptom and it was suggested I take pepcid ac 20 mg twice a day. seems to help but don't want to take it every day if I don't have to.
Avatar n tn You never want them to break off because clots tend to form in that location causing a complete blockage and a large heart attack. The aspririn helps with the clots, the statins decrease or hold the prgression of these bockages and the beta blockers decrease the likelihood of them breaking off. If the medications don't help with your symptoms, than the next step is placing stents to reopen the flow.
Avatar f tn Just went for a stress test and It came back positive for slow blood flow thru heart. They scheduled me for a nuclear stree test next week is this really necessary? The only sympton I have is some chest pain once in a while. complete exhaustion, headaches, feeling like I have no energy. Could this be all tied in.
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. It could be a cardiac enlargement or a rhythm abnormality, difficult to predict. Need the detailed report to comment further. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Adenosine is the radioactive tracer that they inject into your artery for the nuclear stress test. This link explains the test very well: http://my.clevelandclinic.org/heart/services/tests/nuclear/adenosine.aspx Good luck!
Avatar m tn The stress test was stopped while monitoring your system and that almost always indicates there is evidence of ischemia (lack of adequate blood flow) and may be the result of vessel occlusion, and sometime it is evidence of an old heart attack The test is not very reliable for the conditions named, however, it is considered unsafe to continue without the possibility of injury. If you felt a little pressure in the chest that would be additional evidence for some blockage.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for a nuclear stress test on july 30, and an echo. I have had an echo but was wondering what the stress test was?? Anyone with info please help??????
Avatar m tn I had a tread mill stress test and a nuclear stress test. Briefly, the results were: 1) reached 100% target heart rate, no chest pains, no arrhythmia 2) LVEF is 56% 3) moderate size inferior ischemia 4) ECG is positive for ischemia at a good workload (143 heart rate). I have formed a preliminary impression from my research on the Internet, but would appreciate feedback on the above 4 items. I havel scheduled a heart catherterization. Thank you.
Avatar m tn My thoughts are stress tests are not worth a whole lot. A nuclear is what will tell you what damage there is if any. They could not tell me if I had a n attach until I had the Nuclear.
Avatar n tn t agree on why I did so well on the stress test. Q. Can some one do this well on a stress test, ie 13.5 minutes and still have major heart problems? What's next?
212161 tn?1599427282 Yes, I had a nuclear stress test last year and I had no side effects whatsoever from the injected stuff. In my case it was 99m Sestamibi given in 2 different doses for isotopes 1 and 2. The doctor wanted to rule out any blockage in my arteries because the EKG was abnormal. I was very happy to be told that no blockages were detected and that everything looked pretty much normal. I must confess that before the test I was very nervous but it really turned out to be no big deal.
Avatar n tn I have somewhat atypical chest symptoms..and some are typical....Basically my chest feels heavy all the time, but I also have attacks of nausea, lightheadedness, shortness of breath. I'm only 30 years old though I am 50 pounds too fat and I'm an ex smoker. My primary doctor did a plain stress test and resting echocardiogram, and a chest xray. everything was normal.
Avatar m tn d pass a (nuclear) stress test (no blockage to heart muscles) and have a normal echocardiogram, albeit it the valve repair and enlarged left atrium would be noted (I get one of these every 3 years). I am considered to have heart disease but I have never been told I have ever had a "heart failure".
Avatar f tn Iv taken a few Nuclear stress tests - in the past I can remember you cant eat anything or drink but water - I was also taken off my meds for 24 hrs before the test . It might be good to call the appointment center or doctors office and tell them - if im not too late at this ! pretty sure it will mess up your test. though some scan tests you can eat peanut butter ? guess it makes the dye show up better in the vains ? I never liked these tests ! as dyes in vains - so on..
