Avatar n tn All in all, it sounds like you have great workout habits to keep your heart and lungs strong, and it also sounds like you are doing exactly the right thing in order to try to stabilize the blood sugar to control this temporary rise. Kudos to you. Yes, it is a pain, but what you are doing sounds perfect.
Avatar f tn Anything with carbs is going to spike your blood sugar. If your trying to stabilize blood sugar, I would recommend eating lots of protein and vegetables. As for carbs, choose the healthy carbs or brown rice and more slow digesting carbs. That way your blood sugar won't rise as high or fast. I'm type 1 diabetic and pregnant, so u have been testing blood sugar like crazy for a good amount of my life.
Avatar f tn GI = Glycemic Index. A low GI diet is one in which the things you eat will not spike blood sugar levels, but will work to help stabilize them. For instance, eating a piece of candy will spike your blood sugar rather quickly, whereas eating a carrot will not, because of the lower sugar/carb content. Regular pasta will spike your blood sugar more quickly than whole gain pasta because it takes longer to digest the whole grain, so it doesn't go straight to the blood.

Avatar m tn ve recently been diagnosed with type II diabetes and still adjusting my medication and when I had a sugar crash yesterday at lunch I over did my sugar in take and had a sugar spike. It exhausted me, gave me first sweats then chills, nausea all afternoon. I've tried all night eating small portions and hope this morning I would feel better. But now that I'm up I'm still shaking and my blood sugar is 135. How long will I get like this and should I go back to my old dosage.
Avatar n tn Hi, and sorry you are having these problems. Managing your blood sugar can be difficult. I was real lucky for a long time with just diet and exercise. Are you taking meds, and if so, what type?
Avatar n tn Its not just sugar you body converts ALL carbohydrates to Blood Sugar (BG) you body does not care if it is whole wheat or white bread it converts the carbs to sugar.
1689038 tn?1354739164 I'm confused (some would ask "what else is new?"....... LOL)....... How long ago did you have these tests? When you had the first test, you weighed 240 lbs and the test came back at 127? When you had the next test, you weighed 215 lbs? You didn't get results of that test? I'm not sure why you think you had a "sugar spike"....... 127 on a non fasting blood glucose does not mean you are diabetic. Do you keep track of your fasting blood sugars?
Avatar n tn My sister uses raw honey, but that too will spike your blood glucose levels. I'd try to find a coffee that you enjoy without having to add sugar if you can't get around the aftertaste of Stevia.
Avatar n tn Intermittent fasting is healthy. However, not for people who do not eat proper nutrition. The thing about fasting is to force your body to burn fat during the fasting period, however, if you are someone who eats high carb and high protein and low fat, intermittent fasting is too strong a switch. During fasting, you should burn fat, and to do this, insulin levels must be low.
Avatar f tn He will eat very few complex carbs, but when he does, his blood sugar spikes. He exercises almost everyday, but is still not losing any weight. He knows about complex vs simple carbs, but even a very small amount of carbs will send his sugars skyrocketing. The endo and gp doctors just tell him, "you have type 2, exercise more". He is not making any progress even with a strict diet and exercise plan. What else could be happening? Should he be checked for a metabolic disorder?

Avatar f tn I looked on the internet and one website said normal people never go above 140 ever but I figured a bagel and huge glass of OJ would cause a major sugar spike in anyone. Thanks again!
1058898 tn?1275675151 I have not been told if i have diabetes but my Dr. told me to watch my blood sugar because im having symptoms of hypo. I notice my blood sugar at night between 2-3 am are over 120 and my fasting blood sugar in the morning is over 100. When i get the fealing of low it is around 80 and it will keep dropping. the last time it went to 67 and i had to eat some thing i couldnt wait. i had a cup of oj and checked in 15 min and it went to 137.
7543158 tn?1391978069 That little test he does apparently keeps showing an average blood sugar of 130 when I know that to be untrue. I have a glucometer and check my sugar regularly throughout the day. I've even shown him my meter's log and he still won't believe me about my spikes and crashes. He believes I'm just overly worried and that it's all in my head. What do I do?
Avatar f tn "What does this indicate and how serious is it?" Testing one hour after eating results in a false/positive. Glucose [blood sugar] from food consumed has not plateaued in your bloodstream and still is on the rise. Proper test times are: 1. Fasting - 8-10 hours no food or colored liquids, usually done first thing in morning. 2. Preprandial - Before meal to get a baseline measurement 3. Postprandial - 2-3 hours after a meal to see how foods consumed affected glucose levels. 4.
8650265 tn?1421565413 You do have to watch stuff like pasta, breads and rice. How low was your blood sugar today? Did you feel ill- shaky, sweaty, pale? To combat that try eating several small meals a day with snacks in between. If you need help ask to meet with a nutritionist. They can help you understand your restrictions and also help meal plan.
Avatar f tn My sugar dropped to 28. I felt so sick. Fortunally my step mom took my blood sugar and gave me hot chocolate very sweet then it went up to 92. I went back to the doctor and they change my medication. But after feeling so sick Im afraid to take anything else.

1927233 tn?1326670387 I've had so many tests, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, blood tests (including thyroid), allergy tests, parasite tests (I had been to south america so I had to rule out tropical disease)... As of October 22 my ferretin is now up to 11, though above 20 is considered normal, however my hemoglobin is normal, which means I'm not technically anemic.
