Common Questions and Answers about What causes gas in breastfed babies

gas

Avatar f tn My daughter is The same way no matter what I eat lol.. some babies are just naturally gassy! Also breastfed babies take in air when they feed also....
Avatar f tn Breastfed babies often don't have as much gas as bottle fed babies, they just don't feed as fast and take in as much air. I don't know which applies to you. That being said, placing him on his tummy is fine for having him burp. I was taught to sit my babies up on my lap and with my hand cupping them under the chin lean them slightly forward while patting their backs. The pressure on the tummy helps bring up the gas, and lying him on his tummy would likely have the same effect.
Avatar f tn My colicky baby cries a lot and gets all knotted up red and agitated when having g colic episodes. I bounce him, drive around, tried pacifiers, carry him front on chest with wrap and carrier, I coo him on my chest belly down, swing chair, bathing n massaging, stroller and even gripe water (mommy's bliss) . Its stressful seeing babies cry like that. How do you soothe your babies? Any more ideas? .
Avatar f tn Breastfed babies don't get gas and reflux as bad as bottle babies (whether it's breast milk or formula, the bottle makes them gassier). But I would still try burping them when they pop off the boob.
1271927 tn?1310580362 It is totally normal for the poop of breastfed babies to appear to be like diarrea. Breastfed babies have frequent, loose bowel movements, especially in the first few months. My girls would poop 8 to 12 times a day in the beginning! And it was liquid, and if they pooped while we were changing them, it was projectile (once hit a wall 3 feet away). DH called it liquid evil. It is also very normal for a newborn to be gassy. It could be a result of what mom eats, or it could be normal gassiness.
Avatar n tn m not a mommy yet but we touched on some of this in our breast feeding class. Sometimes babies will swallow more air with certain bottles and cause them to be more gassy. Maybe try changing the bottle position or different bottle? I also heard gripe water helps or leaning them foward and massaging their bellies after feedings.
Avatar f tn Sometimes there isn't air in their tummies. In general babies that are breastfed don't suck as much air as bottle fed babies so they burp less. Unless your my daughter who burps and spits up more when I nurse then when she has a bottle lol.
Avatar f tn Babies have liquid poops that have breast milk! It's probably just the force if sneezing and farting making it come out. Does baby seem in pain? If so, try Oval or Infacol or even Gripe Water!
Avatar f tn Breastfed babies do sometimes poop more than formula fed babies and it can be more runny but check with the doc
1158221 tn?1327972603 I remember thinking my babies were, but breastfed babies will naturally have bowel movements similar to it. Does he have a fever at all? If so, (among other signs) a virus would be suspected. A few ways I found to help relieve gas is by laying baby on their belly (this works wonders for my daughter) or you can do baby crunches. You hold them under the chin and sit them back, and then just have them do crunches.
7975661 tn?1403095318 Allot of times breastfed babies don't burp. It's much easier on their tummies and they aren't getting air that is remaining in the bottle. My son rarely did. If he's fussing it may be gass in the lower tract. Try bicycling his legs to break up and gas below.
Avatar f tn Its not much at all maybe 2 teaspoons really runny given in a med. dropper. The juice was what the doctors at the office I take him to recommended to give him along with his meds which he gets 1 oz water, 1oz juice. I've had him off the cereal for 3 days off the juice for 2 and its only getting worse. He still takes those two bottles a day (2oz of formula) which he doesnt handle well either now. He take 2 hours to drink 2 oz. I have him using Good Start because he throws similac back up.
Avatar f tn That is a bit early for constipation. I breastfed and my son usually had poo in almost every diaper. Try gently rubbing her tummy in a clockwise motion. It should help any trapped gas or poo work it's way through the intestines. I wouldn't give anything to her without consulting her pediatrician.
Avatar f tn Are you breastfeeding. Breastfed babies don't always burp.
504000 tn?1242500793 Keep in mind that. Breastfed babies poop more often that formula babies! I would call your pediatrician. Good luck!
324372 tn?1222820202 Also, many women are surprised at how *often breastfed babies eat...they have heard that babies eat every 3-4 hours and expect their to do that. When they are hungry more often than that, the woman assumes she isn't giving her baby enough milk. That is so wrong! Breastfed babies receiving perfectly healthy milk can want to feed every 1.5 to 4 hours...there's a huge variation there!
376148 tn?1309899577 I agree with the above posters. I breastfed my son and he used me as his pacifier, all he wanted to do was eat, he would then of course spit up because his belly was too full. Your little guy will be just fine.
Avatar f tn My son is two weeks and two days and he's constipated to the point where he falls asleep from the effort of trying to push it out, what can I do to help him? I've tried the baby massage and it gets the gas out but no poop.
Avatar f tn So even though I plan on breast feeding as I have with all of my babies, I always pump for bottle feeding if needed. I've always used the nuk brand of bottles but I'm thinking about trying a different brand. I've been looking at dr. Brown's and tommee tippie I 5 hunk they are called. What has been your preferences?
Avatar m tn Feeding before a year to add in learning. Breastfed babies tend to have more adapable palet as mom eats a variety of foods. Breastmilk is very sweet and breastfed babies tend to eat sweeter foods easier. Remember it is about the learning and getting them to move it around theri mouths and swallow. The first foods with sweeter tastes that baby will enjoy better are sweet potatoes and avacado for first foods recomended that have very high nutritional value. then pears and apples.
7975661 tn?1403095318 It means ur baby is super gassy and has alot if air bubbles in their tummy. Usually causes for quite a fussy baby. if your baby is colic it will just go away eventually no matter what type of bottles you use...
773723 tn?1235351972 I breastfed her for four weeks, and even during the four weeks she had ALOT of problems with gas. Now that she is on formula, we started out using regular similac formula, then began using gentlelease enfamil and gentlelease similac, nothing works. She becomes constipated every now and then as well, I don't know what else to do because I know there is not much you can do becuase of their young age.
280369 tn?1316702041 When my guys were small, and even now, we gave them a bit of kayro syrup (sp) (the light kind, not the dark. I don't remember why, but I think it's because there's something in the dark syrup that doesn't help relieve the constipation.). When they were babies we'd mix it in with their milk and in a few hours...oh I had a lovely little present to go along with my happy babies. Now, we just give them a little bit in a teaspoon.
Avatar f tn I breastfed my son and used medela n playtex bottles.
Avatar f tn Also is she breast or formula fed? Usually breastfed babies can go a while without a bowel movement. So can formula fed,but if she is formula fed and doesn't go in a couple days call her pediatrician so they can help you get her to go. Also if she has gas, you can get gripe water it works wonders! You can get it at walmart. Hope this helps!
