According to my gastro, a bad viral infection I acquired almost 18 months ago knocked out only my lactase enzymes, but also the enzymes neccessary to break down sugars, most carbs and all starches. I also became seriously sensitive to fructose, the sugar found in fruit.

Business woman1 But one has to rule out the other possibilities like IBS {irritable bowel syndrome, bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine, Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative Colitis, carbohydrate {sugar} malabsorption, hyperthyroidism, Addison’s disease or may be due to laxative abuse. Avatar f tn Poor absorption as in irritable bowel syndromes and malabsorption syndromes too is possible. Malabsorption syndromes are seen in intestinal tuberculosis, HIV, tropical sprue, parasites in stool and Whipple’s Disease. Diabetes too can be the cause. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into.

Avatar m tn Anxiety and OCD are symptoms of serotonin deficiency. I had severe serotonin deficiency due to vitamin B12 malabsorption. My anxiety was really bad due to hypothyroidism and magnesium deficiency. You aren't going to have a heart attack so don't panic. Time to look at WHY you are suffering serotonin deficiency symptoms because you don't have 5 drug deficiencies~!
Avatar n tn Check what pancreatic tests were done and what are exact results. I would really stick with gastro causes for now. Muscle cramps may be from malabsorption of vitamin B or folate or potassium - well, this should be obvious from blood tests.
Avatar m tn hi. im currently having a case of malabsorption i guess. i can see some food particles in my stool. its been like this for about 3 months now and i lost significant weight maybe 20 lbs. my stool looks like pale yellow and watery. at first i was worried (until now im still worried) about HIV symptoms since i also have swollen lymph nodes, skin rashes and white tongue. i tested negative after 15 weeks of possible exposure so im thinking of other possibilities. i still feel weak.
Avatar f tn Hi, occasionally there could be indigestion and the food may appear undigested. Other causes could be due to malabsorption, inflammatory bowel diseases and various infections of the colon. Blood tests will help detect infections, besides stool examination which will reveal malabsorption. Colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy are procedures which are used to study the whole colon for infections and inflammations. Bacterial overgrowth is tested with a breath test.
Avatar m tn I have regular Colonoscopies and have seen a Gastroenterologist he put me on Clolorestomie a medicine that is supposed to stop the bouts of diarrhea. Avatar n tn I have had this problem now for two months. I had a specimen tested for any bacteria or viral infection; came back negative. What could I possible have? I was wondering if this could be IBS or something serious?
Avatar f tn Hello, before i go into detail i want to say that i have a doc appt with a GI next wednesday. Im posting this to see if anyone else has these symptoms and if they know what could be causing it or if someone was diagnosed with something. The past several months i have been having a lot of preoblems with bowel movements. I also have a lot of stomach pains. My problems are that i have a small bowel movement atleast 10-15 times a day and am constantly feeling like i have to go even when i dont.
Avatar f tn Call your doc and get the problem checked out. There are a number of causes of fat malabsorption, so you should try to verify and figure out the cause.
Avatar m tn Yes it doesn't sound like pancreatic cancer. I was thinking malabsorption syndrome. But since the fecal fat test was negative it may not be that. It does sound like that though. Have you had your amylase and lipase done too? These are pancreatic enzymes? It might be that one of your digestive enzymes is off instead.
