Common Questions and Answers about What antibiotics cause c diff

antibiotics

Avatar m tn Just curious if this is c-diff kicking back up or is this just my gut trying to recover from being on antibiotics for almost 3 months?
Avatar f tn She has never had diarrhea but since she does occasionally have an accident in the house, I was curious whether a human can get C diff from her. I never had her tested but my 11 year old son contracted c diff following antibiotic therapy and I'm not sure if he picked it up from the dog since they can be carriers of the clostridium species. Please let me know.
Avatar f tn t be suprised if it comes back and it did and I just was in the oral antibiotics until it went away finally. C diff come from the antibiotic usually killing off all the good bacteria allowing the bad bacteria to grow in abundance. It makes you have non stop diarrhea. If it turns out you do have it, sounds like they caught it early and you should have no problem getting it under control. I wouldn't be too worried.
Avatar f tn Have you been on antibiotics recently? Are you on treatment for the C Diff? Your family is unlikely to get it unless they have been on antibiotics recently but you should still take precautions to make sure they don't get it.
Avatar f tn It must be something else beside C diff. C diff is normal bacteria within the colon, it should not cause problems in a healthy person. It is possible clyndamicin triggered C diff overgrowth, and you get correct treatment. Are you sure you finished all cures completely (taken antib. all days as prescribed)? 1. It may be small intestinal bacterial overgowth OR intestinal candida overgrowth (do you have oral thrush maybe?) Both this may be detected by a BREATH TEST. 2.
Avatar f tn Hi Crystal...agree with Boron, an ENT is best. Have you tried any other remedies? Im not allergic to antibiotics, but did contract C Diff after taking them, and I tried a "neti pot". It basically cleanses your sinuses with a warm saline solution. Its a bit tricky to get the hang of it - but once you do, its very soothing - and keeps things "moving" nicely. Before C Diff I had chronic sinusitus, but havent had an infection since using this thing (knocking wood).
Avatar f tn Since you have had C. diff, you need to be extremely careful of taking antibiotics now and in the future. Please make sure the doc you're working with knows about you're having had C. diff and takes all precautions possible.
Avatar f tn My wife is on her 5th bout of c-diff, we assume. The first 3 were thought to be the flu. Now we got a positive test on the 4th and were prescribe flagyl. By the time she starting taking the antibiotic, she was getting better. Took it for 10 days and then it comes roaring back in 2 months like clock work. Can you ever get rid of this infection? She gets major stomach aches and cramping and vomiting. Unforunately she cant eat anything not even water because she throws everything up.
Avatar n tn s put on a course of antibiotics specific for treating C. diff. Make sure they discuss the subject thoroughly as C. diff can be difficult to resolve.
Avatar n tn Most of us who take antibiotics feel better before we finish taken the antibiotics, and stop taken the antibiotics. The directions on a bottle of antibiotics probably reads to take every one of the antibiotics to complelely kill the bacteria. Your Mom may have stopped taken the antibiotics before all were taken. Your gut has good and bad bacteria. The bad bacteria is what the antibiotic kills. The antibiotics also kills the good bacteria that can lead to diarrhea.
Avatar m tn t be done and you can still be treated for C Diff even if you need to stay on antibiotics. What antibiotics are you currently on? The test for C Diff can come back very quickly, but it depends on the type of testing done. It is is ordered STAT, the results can come back within an hour. C Diff usually doesn't cause permenent damage but it can cause bleeding in your GI tract leading to anemia which can be dangerous.
Avatar n tn The one probiotic you should look for in yogurt or a pill is Saccharomyces Boulardii. it is important to take this probiotic on a regular, on-going basis as C-Diff can re-occur. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Prior to a weekend trip to Vegas, I had been on a antibiotic for 14 days for a sinus infection. Well low and behold when the boys gets together for a weekend in Vegas, alcohol is usually the first thing on board. So now I have antibiotics on board, large quantities of alcohol, and a boat load of dirty poker chips just clinging in my pocket. What better thing to do next, yep you guessed it Masssage Parlor.
Avatar n tn Vancomycin is a much stronger (and much more expensive) medication, but this is what your mom should be on to get rid of C-diff. These antibiotics cause die-off reactions that can be very severe. As the bacteria dies, it releases toxins into the body. I asked my nutritionist what might help my mom, and did more reading about C-diff. I can recommend Culturelle to help your mom recover from this deadly infection. Culturelle can be bought at almost any drugstore. It runs $20 to $30 per box.
Avatar f tn hi , i went for routine hosp app with my sister i had a slight chest infection at the time but she needed me with her, 2 days later after taking 1 antibiotic tablet started getting severe upset stomach was told to take imodium as maybe havin reaction after week still the same but more severe now was then tested for c-diff came back possitive , got all cleatr from that then 2 days later was rushed into hosp with severe kidney stones passed stone after 5 days of pain ,then my body started to get
Avatar f tn Has any one done a stool transplant? 3 relapses of c diff. Taken every imaginable combo of drugs & pro-biotics. What other options remain?
Avatar m tn It does sound like C-Diff. you should go back to your doctor, the earlier you treat C-Diff. the better, I also had MRSA, if you eat yogurt, it will also help you balance out the bactiera in your stomach. Also before you switch to a different antibiotic you should have them reculture your MRSA to see what it is sucesseptable to. There are other meds. like IV clindomiacine, or vancomaycine. I hope your not just taking an oral medication, you should have an ontiment, a specail soap.
Avatar f tn Taking the antibiotic that gave you C-diff will also cause problems because your body will either A) always give you C-diff when you take that antibiotic again or B) your body will see the antibiotic as poison and you will become very very ill after taking it. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn Also, she has never had diarhea, as a matter of fact, she has been constipated since she was 3 months old and has been given a dose of Myrilax daily. Can c diff also be the cause of constipation? Everything I've read about the symptoms of this infection does not point to my daughter at all. How did my daughter get this, and why doesn't she have any symptoms that are written everywhere I look? Oh and she does not have blood in her stool...
Avatar m tn Has anyone ever had c diff? I'm currently having symptoms of nausea and Diarrhea. Stool Testing is pending. I was told if my symptoms are severe to start taking flagyl, anyone ever been on this antibiotic? If so what was the outcome?? Ian really looking for some help and support, any help is welcomed.
Avatar f tn The antibiotics that were used to kill of the C. diff may have skewed your normal bacteria quite a bit and it's possible that could be causing at least part of the problem. Get some probiotics and take them to try to offset the problem. A decent brand to try after the types of drugs you were on include Culturelle, Digestive Advantage-IBS and FloraQ. FloraStor is another good one, but some people don't seem to do well on it.
Avatar f tn You also might want to take a probiotic while on the antibiotic, with your doctors permission. That has helped me tolerate things some. (You could also try the Activia yogurt. I have heard that helps many while on antibiotics.) I can't start Humira yet cause I can't get rid of the c-diff that I got from an antibiotic for strep. Be careful and if you start to have liquidy bowels, tell your doctor.
Avatar f tn You need to be seen for this ..I would go to urgent care tomorrow if I were you ..I had c diff an what you have going on is what I was going through ..don't wait for it to get worse ..better safe than sorry ..
Avatar f tn Ggreg, the problem in my mind is with the increase in cases of C. diff with the use of antibiotics these days, it's just not worth the risk of and the loss of few dollars that are spent trying to keep the 'decent' flora up in the GI tract. Even in a 'normal' individual (is there such a thing?) antibiotics should be used sparingly and they're typically not. Far too many antibiotics are handed out much too easily. In my mind it's better to be safe than sorry. C.
