welchol

Avatar n tn Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
159619 tn?1707018272 There has been considerable discussion as of late as to the risk involved in having elevated cholesterol levels and whether or not having elevated cholesterol is still considered a risk for CAD. I am still one who believes in the conventional medical thinking that elevated levels of cholesterol help contribute to CAD.
Avatar f tn It turned out to be the welchol I had started on to decrease my cholesterol. I felt bloated, constipated, a little dizzy and a fast heart rate every late afternoon and evening. I was very fatigued and just felt lousy all over. I have to admit that the pressure feeling in the esophagus was the scarriest.
401016 tn?1201451802 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar m tn Can anyone explain to me why I still had a heart attack even while taking the following meds atenenol 50mg bid, HCTZ 25mg daily, zetia 40mg daily, plavix 25mg daily, welchol 625mg bid. Also what is the chance of a second heart attack My Aortic Valve, Tricuspid Valve, and my Mitral Valve are failing because they are stenotic and regurgitative. The Aortic valve is in the worst shape of the three they tell me. I have psoriatic arthritis and ankolosing spondylitis. all joints are involved.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.
Avatar n tn Vegan is not necessary, nor even a good idea, however. Lowering LDL is the goal, but RAISING HDL is also good, as it helps mitigate the impact of LDL. An excellent way to accomplish this is to eat fish, especially those high in Omega-3 fatty acids. I eat no red meat, limited chicken and low fat cheese, lots of salmon and other fish, and take Omega-3 fatty acid as a supplement as well.
Avatar n tn I take (2) 500mg of metformin at breakfast and supper. I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
Avatar m tn My LDL level is 132 and cholesterol is 210 and HDL is 63. What should I do now to be healthy? This discussion is related to Free Live Web Chat w/ Cleveland Clinic Cardiologist - Noon Today!.
Avatar f tn hello..i want to ask about my cholesterol..my LDL cholesterol is 4.5 is that normal?dangerous or not..what can i do to reduce it?
Avatar n tn I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.
Avatar f tn I am curious if you tried cholestramine or welchol pills for detox? I use the welchol because I can't drink liquid meds.
Avatar m tn the first two times, there were a few blockages - 10, 18 and 20% The last time was in December 2013 with a different cardiologist (I moved across the state) and he said I had NO blockages at all. HUH??? My lipid profiles are still horrible even with medications. Pravacol, Tricor and Welchol. His answer for this question was: "Those medications took the blockages away." Of course, I am no doctor but this seems funny to me.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I have about 600 welchol tablets that my insurance company accidently over-sold me. I cant take this medication any longer. It was prescribed to me because of gallbladder removal. Can I do anything with this medication since I will not be taking it? Its in 3 huge , sealed bottles.
Avatar n tn You may want to ask the doc if he can try a bile binding resin like questran or somehting like Welchol. There's also the possibility that calcium could help. But it has to be in a specific form and take ant specific times of the day. Google 'lnape and calcium,' and look at the information provided. The contraindication would be if he has a history of kidney stones or parathyroid problems.
Avatar n tn Although I have low LDL without statin therapy, I started a statin because of significant family history. Recent evidence seems to point to very low LDL (<70) being even better than low LDL (<100). More recently JUPITOR showed that <50 was better than <70. However, what is particularly interesting is that statins seem to reduce cardiovascular events through mechanisms other than LDL lowering. Such mechanisms may be anti-thrombotic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant.
Avatar n tn LDL = 213, HDL = 85, Triglycerides = 36. What does this mean? Does this point to me having the "good" LDL? Since the HDL and the triglycerides are good, doesn't this point to healthy LDL particles. I eat well, (low carb) , exercise and am not overweight.
Avatar f tn There was one study that discovered the small "sticky" LDL which is the most dangerous of all LDL particles that have been identified, however it was only one study so there is still too much to learn. The particle size of LDL is less critical as the size of HDL particles. I asked my doctor about a particle size test when I did my last lipid profile and he told me that it really would not be something he would recommend as there is just not enough known yet.
Avatar m tn total cholesterol 252, HDL 54, LDL 173, Trigiceride 103 LDL/HDL quote 3.2 should be less than 3. is it someting i should be concerned about?
