I've been on Welchol for lose to twenty years now, but now (after having thyroid gland removed due to follicular cancer at the end of last year), I'm having the exact same symptoms taking the Welchol tablets as you described (I thought it might have been dyspagia brought on by the Levothyroxine I'm forced to take now).

In assition, She was presecribed the steroid enemas to combat ulcers which fomed between the pouch and her anus; which is so contracted (possibly from the lack of solid stool for 20 years?) that with the constant irritation of liquid stool, cleansing and shrinkage she says it too painful to insert the tip of the enema bottle.

I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.

I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! I am curious if you tried cholestramine or welchol pills for detox? I use the welchol because I can't drink liquid meds.

Can Welchol be mixed with something else besides water ? Today was my first dose and it was horrid. I am a juicer and was hoping to mix the water/Welchol mixture in my juice, would that work or somehow disturb it's efficiency. Maybe it would detract from the nutrients I would normally absorb from the juicing. My liver function is too high so my Dr. wants me to avoid statins. Does anyone have any names of docs in Canada who deal with AD. We were vacationing in Australia, both got bit by jellyfish. I had AD for 3 months and it went away. He still has it after 2 years. I have about 600 welchol tablets that my insurance company accidently over-sold me. I cant take this medication any longer. It was prescribed to me because of gallbladder removal. Can I do anything with this medication since I will not be taking it? Its in 3 huge , sealed bottles.

You may want to ask the doc if he can try a bile binding resin like questran or somehting like Welchol. There's also the possibility that calcium could help. But it has to be in a specific form and take ant specific times of the day. Google 'lnape and calcium,' and look at the information provided. The contraindication would be if he has a history of kidney stones or parathyroid problems.
