Common Questions and Answers about Welchol how it works

welchol

Avatar f tn I had similar feeling of pressure in my esophagus. It felt as if my esophagus was full with food up to my throat. I could eat and swallow and it would go down. I tried burping but it didn't help the pressure feeling. I wasn't having heartburn. It turned out to be the welchol I had started on to decrease my cholesterol. I felt bloated, constipated, a little dizzy and a fast heart rate every late afternoon and evening. I was very fatigued and just felt lousy all over.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
255722 tn?1452546541 Yes I know what you mean. Well I was on a protocol of doxy and flagyl before I found out I had Barts. Now I am following Burascanos protocol for Barts, which is levaquin and welchol for detox, I am having problems with the welchol so had to cut back. My idea is so many LLMD's try so many different protocols it is just a matter of luck. What works for some may not work for others.
401016 tn?1201451802 Try going low fat and see if it helps. And if you can control the loose stools with calcium instead of the welchol, it might be good to try to do so. Google 'lnape and calcium.' You should find posts from L Nape discussing the use of a specific form of calcium and it's use. But don't use the calcium if you are prone to stone formation, or if you have parathyroid problems.
Avatar f tn Doc didn't mention pills and I had never heard of this medicine. Treatment messed up my thyroid so I know he said I have to take it at night because it can't be taken within 4 hours of Synthroid. I tolerated it better tonight. Found the trick is to not stop drinking until it's gone and it is only a half cup. How long have you taken it and have you had any side effects?
Avatar m tn I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot. have about 1/3 of the severity of symptoms that I had on statins. headache, muscle aches. may put up with it and may not. just keepin on keepin on for now. Will see if this gets better, worse or stays the same.
Avatar n tn I had the same thing post gb removal, it was a reaction to bile due to bile duct damage that occurred in the gb removal surgery.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.
Avatar f tn I Just ordered off this site called withdrawal-ease.com and it's $89 for 2 bottles one for night time and one for day. Th Thomas recipe isn't helping me. I was going to order te amino acid protocol but I got everything into my cart on GNC.com and it was $150!! And it was missing 2 items they didn't carry it. So it will be here in 2-3 days. I will take it and let everyone know. I hope it works. It could save a lot of us from the pain! Check out the website:) www.withdrawal-ease.com!
Avatar f tn I am curious if you tried cholestramine or welchol pills for detox? I use the welchol because I can't drink liquid meds.
Avatar f tn I will have to go back and see if I can find that one. It was really interesting. Seems to be all upside down in the way it works as to the way you would think it did. I alwasys thought when stocks were way up, it was a good thing. I will have to see if I can find it or the link to it so ya all can have a look see.
Avatar n tn Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
Avatar n tn I take (2) 500mg of metformin at breakfast and supper. I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?
Avatar n tn I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.
Avatar f tn I understand it has a ceiling cap and half life. How does taking 3 doses a day effect you? I mean you take 4mg. It is stored with a half life, when I take my next dose in 8 hours how much do I now have? I know that it caps what does that really mean, just you aren't getting anymore but it is still in you. Please help. I am curious as to how if any this would effect detoxing.
569676 tn?1315641158 Below is an article explaining how and why suboxone works. This was written by Dr. Richard Gracer and is very well written in understandable terms. How Buprenorphine Works Buprenorphine (Subutex) is an FDA approved drug that is used to treat opiate (narcotic) dependence and prevent its relapse, to decrease the withdrawal symptoms when getting off opiates and in some specific circumstances to treat chronic pain.
Avatar m tn the first two times, there were a few blockages - 10, 18 and 20% The last time was in December 2013 with a different cardiologist (I moved across the state) and he said I had NO blockages at all. HUH??? My lipid profiles are still horrible even with medications. Pravacol, Tricor and Welchol. His answer for this question was: "Those medications took the blockages away." Of course, I am no doctor but this seems funny to me.
Avatar f tn m sure the NP went over it with me, but my memory is totally shot.) I am just not sure exactly how the Fentanyl patch works. I know it releases the medicine through your skin over a period of hours. I started out changing it every 72 but she changed it to every 48. What I'm wondering is, if I were to take it off and not put another one on, how long would the medicine still work? I am pretty sure when she started me on this she said it takes about 12 hours to kick in.
