Welchol for weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Welchol for weight loss

401016 tn?1201455402 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar n tn i am so confused because one doctor wanted to do a total hysterectomy and i go to a gyn oncologist and she tells me that it is not female related, ( my weight loss and no appetite and just feeling like ****) she told me it was gi related, and the gi doctor tells me its female related, i went back to the original surgeon that removed my gallbladder and i begged him to do a laparscopy but he said with this day and age of technology with all of these fancy tests that exploratory surgery was pretty
Avatar n tn 2004, was extremely sick, vomiting, lethargy, the ultrasound showed i had alot of gallstones,(30-40) had it removed by laparscopy, had no problems for 2 weeks, then i experienced nausea 24/7,and then intermittent diarrhea, had a colonoscopy, which was normal, then i had an endoscopy which showed a copius amount of bile in my stomach, was put on welchol and nexium (had some ulcers) did okay for a couple of months, then in june of 2005 i lost 32 lbs in a 3-4 week period, i had no appetite whatsove
Avatar f tn The solution was a cholesterol drug that binds with the fat in the digestive tract and keeps it from being absorbed so that it passes straight through the body. I was put on Welchol, and it really helped. It also has no side effects because Welchol is not absorbed in the body. It just passes on through along with the fat.
Avatar f tn Thanks so much for responding. I am sorry to hear about your recent loss. I am 100% convinced that my symptoms are being caused by acid reflux. After being a long time sufferer I have previously experienced palpitations and for long periods could not lay on my left side because I would have palpitation after palpitation. Unfortunately most doctors seem to be in denial about acid reflux having a connection with the heart, but after researching it for myself I am convinced that it does.
Avatar n tn No diarrhea, stools normal (color and consistency), no nausea, no abnormal weight loss/gain, appetiet good, etc. Comments please. It's the type that Pepto Bismol used to be the cure - does not effect it now.
Avatar n tn She couldn't eat and was vomitting. After being at home for 12 days, she went back to the doctor's office for a scheduled appointment. Within the hour she had been admitted back into the hospital. Another CT scan was performed, an upper endoscopic, and X-rays. These came back clean and showed nothing. Blood tests were conducted and a stool sample taken and she was diagnossed with C-Diff. She started vancomycin and another 2 drugs; one to slow her digestion and one to stimulate her appetite.
Avatar f tn In the UK the doctor can order xrays and other imaging like ultrasound scans, barium meal xrays, and would refer you to a specialist for a colonoscopy and any other tests to check for problems in the digestive system. The doctor should also consider doing blood tests to check your kidney and liver function. A stool test can also be done to look for any bacteria (especially Helicobacter Pylori), parasites and any more serious problems.
Avatar f tn Attempting to update information following latest appointment in hopes the information will be of benefit to others experiencing similar problems pre and post surgery for gall bladder removal. Apparently, I have neither of the conditions mentioned above, as verified following previous testing. I have been placed on Xifiaxin (an anitibiotic specifically for "the gut"), and another medication called Welchol, that I am to adjust according to my diarhhead symptoms.

Avatar f tn This would be a last resort. I believe this is the surgery done for weight loss. With my gastritis, I have lost significant weight because of the loss of appetite. In addition to Carafate, I am changing my diet to exclude sugar, fat, acid and alcohol as much as possible and am having good results. I will see my doctor in a couple weeks to inquire about the future of the bile backing up into my stomach.
215461 tn?1331866365 I have been in agony for 5 weeks (diarrhea, massive weight loss, agonizing upper abdominal pain, low grade fever, etc.) and every test that's been run so far has been negative. This week is the HIDA scan, although I had one 5 years ago that was normal. I have Hashimoto's and my thyroid levels are not controlled very well, mainly the T3 levels. Thinking of trying T3 only (Cytomel) but the only compromise my endo will do is NatureThroid.
12773 tn?1328916786 also you mentioned the thyroid thing...how often are you getting worked up for that? too much meds can cause rapid weight loss and also shut kidneys down...too little also causes big probs...thyroid disease is not a minor thing. get checked regularly and take your meds same time each day, on an EMPTY stomach. Have they tried you on any acid pump Blocker type drugs? What did the upper endoscopy show?
Avatar n tn I am 41 years old, have two children 4 and 7 and i will probably not see them grow up. But I want to live the best I can for them whilst I am alive. In May 07 I had a total bowel obstruction due to scar tissue and tumor and had an ileocolic bypass. Lost part of my ileum, terminal ileum, ileocecal valve and all transcending colon. Since then, some 11 months ago, I have had chronic diarrhea, as often as 20 to 30 times per day.
Avatar n tn The most important thing is that you continue a healthy lifestyle that incorporates further weight loss and exercise. If you search back in the forum for PVCs you will see that it it a very common problem. Without any indication of significant heart disease, they carry no significant negative prognosis for you. The most important thing is to cope with them in a healthy manner. Searching the forum might give you some ideas on how others have done that.
Avatar n tn My opinion comes from observation and having been around the system for a few years. Of course you shouldn't give my opinion much weight compared to the CCF doctors here, but they must have a comment section for a reason, and I am sure that my comments are not out of line.
21064 tn?1309312333 I used to take Profafenone for arrthymhias-no side effects for me. I take red yeast rice and fish oil for cholesterol (both with my cardiologists blessing). I take monopril at night for my cardiomyopathy-been on it for 12 years-no side effects. Thanks for doing this!
Avatar m tn Saddly I may have to do these procedures my entire life. But other than those problems Im happy with my weight loss. I was 240 pounds when I first did it and lost down to 89 pounds (so not happy then), and gained up to 135 or so as it really fluctuates. (depending on how well i eat and excercise) So Im happy to have lost over the 100 pounds. Any how back to you. Please do keep in touch as we surely care enough to want you to get better!! and I will look for an update post from you!
Avatar n tn Salmon from the sea is good, and NOT the same as the salmon raised on farms - which is now so widely available at lower prices. 3. For weight loss and general health a diet based primarily on vegetables, fruits (though these are high in sugar) and whole grains (eliminate refined flour - breads, pastas) will work. Steamed veggies are delicious - really!

Avatar n tn I have since been experimenting, speaking to a nutritionist and working on a healthy diet for weight loss and for getting rid of this horrible "flushing" of my system. It's not perfect and sometimes I still get these symptoms but in general I am much improved. Here is what I've learned. 1. STOP EATING HIGH FAT FOODS: this is key, and it's hard. No more fast food, fried foods or anything with a lot of oil or cheese. Many times this is the worst part.
Avatar n tn I also take Welchol everyday for upset stomach after my gallbladder was removed.I am under stress and cant sleep alot. My doc put me on amitriptyline for headaches and mood. It worked for a little bit but I took my self off a couple of weeks ago because my mood was getting worse and it got scared. Since then my headaches have come back but i dont want to take mood meds for headaches. Can anyone help?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Questran and Welchol, both of which gave me severe heartburn and gas, which did not help because it just went from one type of burning to another. The only thing that seems to even help a little is Carafate, but not that much. The docs have told me that they don't know what other meds to try. Can anyone who has had experience dealing with bile reflux please offer some suggestions as to how I can control this. It has not been determined what the cause of the bile reflux is.
Avatar n tn I have been for numerous checks, doctors declaring IBS, testing for endometriosis (family history) and putting me on Yasmin (a contraseptive pill which will apparently stop symptoms.) This is because what I have noticed is that my symptoms, although constant, appear to worsen to great heaights during my menstrual cycle. I wondered if you have this same problem? Like you my outbursts are frequent, yet random including a feeling of acidity, nausea, diarroea, lethargy, trembling and cold sweats.
Avatar f tn Blood tests suggest autoimmune disfunction (positive ana, antithyroid antibodies, high IgG for parvovirus and EBV and CMV without being conclusive of connective tissue or thyroid disease. A cone beam ct scan revealed an inflammatory process in the sinus above the implant and apical periodontal inflammation on the tooth behind the implant which was also giving me night fevers. I have since had the root canal retreated on the tooth that was being blamed for my mouth discomfort.
